An interview with Brad Larsen:

There will be systematic changes to the defense. Very curious to see the specifics of them.

An interview with Brad Larsen:

All of the sudden I'm getting a lot of advertisements in Athletic articles. It is not as bad when reading on the computer, but it was almost every 2-3 paragraphs on my iPhone. :thumbd:

I did enjoy the article though. Lars seems like a players coach, very approachable, and completely up front about expectations.

“As hungry as you are to score, you have to be just as hungry to get it back”

As noted in the “Superstar Laine” thread, many fans around here do not like or agree with that 1st line, not understanding that ALL the “best” players and “best” teams must (and do) do that in order to WIN GAMES.

5-4 wins (or losses, as some of you seem to feel) should not be seen as ANY better than 2-1 wins.

You have to start quoting these people and confronting them directly because I don't know if I unwittingly skip over or can't remember people seemingly saying they'd rather lose 5-4 than win 2-1. I know you aren't saying I do but I seriously don't care how we win so long as we win and I think that's how most see it. Our defense and offense both need improvement. If we're going to be a high scoring team we need a better powerplay and we need to play better defense to flip possession more so we can have the puck more.

There’s been plenty of “quoting” and “confronting” over many threads and over a lengthy amount of time. Any Laine or Torts threads or talk can lead you to “many” expressing beliefs that offense is seemingly more important than defense.

How many people wanted to keep Torts (and his apparent “style” and “philosophy”) around?? Why was that number so low??

Related question, that I’ve NEVER seen answered….

WHY did Torts APPARENTLY not want to coach the CBJ anymore, but, was willing to come back and coach another team so quickly??

It’s not going to happen. The poster has been asked to do this before and has repeatedly balked.

Sounds like they're trying to get Laine to play a 200-foot game - much like Hitchcock did with Rick Nash.
Think about all the goals Nash scored in tight around the net.

Patty don’t do rebounds….

1 goal from a tip near the front of the net. 1 goal off a rebound off the boards behind the net.

Zero “hard area” goals.

I’m not saying it IS an “aspect of his game”, I’m saying it SHOULD BE.

I'm in agreement in principle, but let me clarify my reference to Rick Nash. Laine is not Rick Nash. He has a different body frame and different skills. All I'm saying is they're trying to get him to be just as enthusiastic in his defensive play as he is in his offense.

I appreciate your input, but, whether it the YEARS long Wennberg saga, crazy things said about Wisniewski’s impact, or plenty of other subjects involving things said about Bobrovsky or Torts, it’s complete BS.

It always turns into a semantics debate about what people ACTUALLY MEANT, or guys get called “haters” or attacked for “unrelated topics”.

Do people really need to quote posts every time they attempt to make a point where they “agree” or “go against” other things that have been posted on here?

Some people are right, goals win games, how can I actually argue against that fact??

Not everyone has that mentality of "get it back". I learned early on that my offensive prowess was not likely going to result in winning games but I also learned very early that I HATED to lose. I'm not going to to to the cliche that I hated to lose more than I liked to win but I really hated to lose. And I loved to win. It's really not hard to approach the game (any game) with a "get it back" mentality. That's just effort, heart and desire.

I understand your reference to Nash, I am simply adding MORE context to things that Laine NEEDS to change in his game, in order for him to become the player many think he can become, or already is.

While Laine is a much better shooter from distance, the “body frame” thing isn’t accurate, IMO. That’s essentially my whole point, in addition to focusing more on both ends of the ice and with an EXTREME COMMITMENT to his physical strength and conditioning, he could easily add the “skills” to his game needed in order become an “elite threat” near the net or even on the PK, as was Rick Nash.

I just think the ABSOLUTE lack of rebound goals from such a “goal scorer” is something that should be noticed and looked at from a tactical and team standpoint. And yes, changed.

Will be interesting to see how the fans and players handle an apparent change in philosophy from last year. That said, it does make me question why they allowed such “openness” in style of play last year, just to change after 1 year, when, TO ME, it’s clear it was not the path to success, with ANY roster.

Obviously the answer to this question is “no.”

And thus it’s also fine for people to dismiss posts that claim they know better than those who hold a certain position without providing evidence that people actually hold said position.

It’s just one of those things.

Never noticed but I also use their app and not the website on my phone. I also use an adblocker on Safari.

I’m very concerned about the athletic’s long range financial outlook

Adds are new today on the app…. There’s been a ton of writers moving around. Lot of smoke

On second thought I think I just need to ignore the strawmen you always have debates with and just focus on your points themselves. That idiosyncrasy annoys me but all I'm doing by complaining about it is derailing the thread.

For me there's multiple ways to win and so long we have one that works I'm not complaining. My two most pressing concerns with the team are defense and the powerplay. The team obviously needs to be better on defense in order to be seriously good and needs a better powerplay if it will rely on scoring relatively.

Yeah I did notice some restructuring, but figured it was a given with the NYT buying them.

I did see their post about the ads once I accessed the desktop site. Just a crock of sh*t considering their whole 'no ads' selling point behind their entire premise.

Might be worth a watch

So in classic Bally's/Sinclair form, they advertise this show for 10:00pm on Monday night. So I went in the guide to record it, it actually started at 9:30. Of course the 9:30 window was too close to the Guardians window, so the first 25 minutes of this show was the Guardians post game. There is no sign of this show on the Bally's website or the App, but I do see a replay scheduled for Saturday. Just awful per usual from Bally's.

Did anyone actually find this anywhere? Was it any good?
