Lots of great info in this thread!

Question from an outside fan. I called 716 about reservations for next Saturday's Sabres/Flyers game. Turns out they are just starting to take reservations but the first day they are doing this is on the 19th.

From your experience, at what time does this place fill up on weekends? I had planned on booking at 4:30 for 4 people so we can have a few and still catch the warmups.

I assume as well that Pearl Street Brewery is taking a hit with 716 opening. We've always gone there in the past but wouldn't mind trying 716 if at all possible.

Any info would be great!

Some info on (716) in this thread ...

Hey guys, random question but what is the best Italian bakery in the area? Friend of mine asked me to find out for whatever reason.

DiCamillo's. It's been almost a couple years, but whenever I go back or have friends come visit me here in Illinois, I always ask for a loaf of DiCamillo's and a focaccia pie.

Greetings, Sabres fans!

I'm taking my nephew to the game on the 20th vs. the Rangers (he's a big Buffalo fan). It's the rescheduled one from the snowstorm back in November. Since we will likely be buying tickets from a friendly neighborhood "reseller," I just need to know if the tickets will still have the old date on them, or if the Sabres reprinted them and sent out new ones.

Don't want to get scammed, although the likelihood of that actually happening is very slim.

StubHub has 2 for $31 each last I looked so that might be your best bet. Thinking that's as good as you'll get from a tout.

No the Sabres didn't send out new tickets to that game.
The tickets that will be used for the game should be the orginial ones with the Friday, November 21 date on them.

As SabreMike suggested - I would go the StubHub route if your worried. You may pay a tad more now than what you would pay to a scalper on the street the night of the game. But at least you have the tickets in hand before you get to the game and that the tickets will be legit. (Also you will know that your helping out a fellow Sabres fan and not a scalper.)

Wish I could had offer my two seasons to you - would have gave ya a discount from StubHub prices - but that was one of the games that I actually sold ahead of time this season. Sold them via StubHub a couple of weeks before the game was postponed due to the snowstorm.

Bringing Kid to Game

Hi everyone. We are bringing our 9yr old to his first game 16/03/15 vs the Caps. Can you recommend an area to go for his best chance to get autographs from players on both teams? I assume they enter via bus tunnel making if impossible to see or approach any of them. We still have to book our hotel. Any idea where visiting teams stay?

I moved here 17 years ago and tried Duff's wings for the first time about 3 weeks ago. I was thoroughly unimpressed.

I wish I had read this last week...my wife and I hit up the Sabres game on Sunday and I wanted to go somewhere in Buffalo famous for their wings so we tried Duffs. We were both completely and utterly disappointed, I've had far better wings in Rochester. The wings at Duffs were in the running for the worst I've had to be honest, nothing about them were appealing and we didn't finish our order.

The best wings I've ever had in my life came from a little pizza place called Sammy's on the US side of Niagara Falls. I don't know if they're as good now as they were 20 years ago when I first had them (been back a couple times since) but they were absolutely the best I've had in my life. I checked after the whole Duffs episode and they're still in business...might have to make a little road trip soon to get some of them.

Other than Gabriel's Gate (which I've had...and they were good but not spectacular), any local recommendations for what you believe are the best wings in Buffalo?

a thread with info and warnings about Buffalo weather/food etc. very good idea, I will add my 2 cents about buffalo after 30 years living here...

If you find yourself sliding on the road with no control of your car, don't hit the brake, it will not stop you and it will only make it worse, you have you take your foot off the pedals and let your car come to a stop on its own....hitting the gas, brake or rapidly turning the wheel will make things worse....to avoid this completely drive very slowly and don't follow too close to anyone....

and more importantly, go to duffs for your wings

wow, I have never had any bad wing experiences at Duffs....although it has been a couple years since I have gone there, so maybe they are going downhill.

The thing you have to understand about wings is not only the quality of wings you get, but even more than that is how they are cooked...a lot of places (in favor of not making customers wait) will not make the wings crispy because they think customers would rather get there food fast than wait an extra 5 minutes and make sure the food is good. I worked at TGI Fridays and there was a timer on the fryer and the wings had to be cooked for the same length of time (which was not even close to long enough), and they came out soggy and wet and soft. they were so gross and since its a corporation every Fridays wing in the country will be gross, HOWEVER when you go to a small pizza/wing joint in Buffalo you are usually getting the benefit of having a cook who doesn't have a corporate recipe book, and he/she is going to make the wings the way he/she would want to eat them, thus getting the benefit of having the cook care about how good they are so they will be a lot better. Also, he/she a lot of times will be one of only a couple cooks in a small/less busy place, so making sure they are great wings is paramount to keeping customers/succeeding in the business. TGI Fridays could take wings off the menu and still not lose a penny of revenue......I could go on for hours, but alas, I came on this site to talk/read about hockey.

Maybe it's just the fact that we went to the Duffs in Williamsville...I don't really know. I probably shouldn't expect great wings at a mall but went with the name I had heard in the past.

There was no crispy factor to the wings we had at all...none. The sauce wasn't tasty (we had their medium wings), it tasted like it came out of a prepared bottle that you would buy at the grocery store. My wife and I both came away with the impression that they had a bunch of wings sitting around in the back waiting to be ordered, rather than that a batch of wings had been dropped and sauced specifically for our order.

I don't want to pile on, they just weren't what we expected out of a legendary Buffalo wings joint. At Pearl St for some further pregame before the Sabres game that night, some of the Buffalo locals told us that's a very typical Duffs experience and they felt sorry for us that we had gone there.

Sucks to hear.

I tried the Duffs in Orchard Park once, it was terrible.

I've had mostly good luck with the original on Sheridan.

The one at the mall though? I've been there probably 15 times with consistently good quality wings.

Just how it goes I suppose. I've tried Anchor Bar and Gabriel's Gate and thought both were terrible.

I've had Anchor and GG as well, of the three places GG was the best experience but none of them were worth the drive.

I freely admit that my one Anchor experience was around 20 years ago, so it's certainly possible things have changed since then.

I'll also freely admit that it's possible I got a bad batch from the Williamsville location, but I'll probably never know since I doubt we'll return. I wouldn't go out of my way again, at least.

I second this (Bar Bill wings)

You'll want to give yourself plenty of time, this place is always mobbed, with limited seating (unless you don't mind eating at the bar, but bar space is limited as well).

I have always enjoyed the wings at Washington Square but understand that tastes are different. In the late 60s and early seventies there was the Anchor Bar, then McTreavers, Swan St. Station etc...all pretty good for a while. I would not eat a dusted crispy wing on a bet. Some of my buddies would rather eat salad than the hot and saucy wings that I enjoy. A group of us have been playing together for about 45 years -one sport or another depending on the season since we all graduated from our professional schools although injuries and age have limited some of us to after game activities and we order about 7 different styles of wings. We have moved around to upgrade the wings when the quality dropped off. No matter the style we would usually agree standards had not been met.. Weather has resulted in me missing the last 2 Sabres games for which I had tickets so I have not tried 716 although the guys say it is not bad.

Seconding this question. We're coming to watch the Blackhawks game tonight, is there any place to encounter the players as they arrive?

Where to watch the draft!

Hey folks-

I'm looking for your favorite place to watch the draft! I'm not really interested in going down to the Fn'C. What I'm looking for is full national coverage (TV), full volume, beer and wings.

Any suggestions and reasons why? Thanks everyone.

Duffs will likely do something. They did last year. But they only turned down the music for the Sabres' picks.
