Hey folks-

I'm looking for your favorite place to watch the draft! I'm not really interested in going down to the Fn'C. What I'm looking for is full national coverage (TV), full volume, beer and wings.

Any suggestions and reasons why? Thanks everyone.

I worked at MacGregors when it first came to Buffalo. 82 taps, 30 tv's and we didn't have a problem turning up the volume. It's on Maple but I haven't been there in a couple years since I left.

Same MacGregor's that's in the Rochester area? Excellent bar. Gotta love any place with that many good beer options.

Hi guys, I'm a Sabres fan from over the pond in England, I've been over to see Sabres play 6 times over the last 2 seasons and was after some advice.
I am currently planning my trip for this year and will be going to the first 3 home games against OTT, TB and CBUS but I will be also going to my first road game against FLA in Sunrise. So I was wondering if anyone on the board will be going to the game in Florida and if so what section is best to get seats to sit with other Buffalo fans as I'm travelling solo and if they is anything else I should know.
Thanks Jonathan

Hi friends! I came to visit Eichel Land, so I could see the Rolling Stones. I'm still here for another day or two, so can anyone give me some recommendations on interesting things to do? I went to Eternal Flame Falls today before the Stones' concert, and I plan to go into Canada to see Niagara Falls tomorrow.

Any other recommendations on cool stuff to do? Maybe some good restaurants too?

I think the taste of buffalo is going on today. I'd recommend that

If I come here in February to see the Habs play how awful should I expect the weather to be, I'd be driving in from Hamilton, New York but my girlfriend would be coming for Ohio, if she doesn't get snow tires should I even trust her to drive?

Hard to say .... It's Mother Nature. You can't accurately predict anything. It will be cold, sure.... But it could be dry roads and sunny.... Or it could be 3 feet of snow and wind gusts at 40 mph..... I've seen the wide spectrum of weather in February. I hope Mother Nature is kind to the both of you that day.

It's also worth mentioning that you'll be dealing with two different stretches of the I-90 and each of you will likely be concerned with different snow bands (Lakes Erie vs Ontario) for much of that drive. She'll have to drive through the Southtowns (aka ski country and/or snowbelt south of Buffalo) on the I-90E, while you pass through Syracuse and Rochester on the I-90W. It's impossible to predict if both, either, or neither will produce a heavy, lake effect snow to worsen driving conditions, but it's certainly possible and not outside of the norm in February.

Are there cheap hotels in the city that can be reached by public transportation from the arena? Am planning a trip taking Greyhound from NYC sometime this season and I may have to stay overnight to do it.

Everyone has a different definition of "cheap".

Define what cheap is for you.

My 2 cents:

I had no idea whether Buffalo had hostels or not. So I googled hostels in Buffalo and lo and behold - there are hostels in Buffalo. The sites I saw were Hostelworld.com, hostels.com and airbnb.com. The first two seem to be hostel oriented sites while through airbnb, you can rent private rooms in someone's house. Most seemed pretty reasonable and within your range.

Here's the key, IMO. The light rail system runs up and down Main St. Definitely has service after every home game. There's a stop right outside the Arena. Just find a place that is along the route or a couple of blocks away. Airbnb showed a few places in the Allentown area which is very walkable from a light rail stop. I saw one place that seemed close that was around $50 per night and had good reviews. The host's name was Aaron on the one I checked out. I also saw a hostel at 667 Main St which had accommodations for $34 per night. At the far end of the light rail near the South campus of the University at Buffalo (final stop of the rail) there is the University Manor Inn which appears to be at the top end of your budget.

Edit - I just checked out Tripadvisor and there is a review of the Hostel at 667 Main - http://www.tripadvisor.com/Hotel_Review-g60974-d1150695-Reviews-Hostel_Buffalo_Niagara-Buffalo_New_York.html

Seems like you'd have some options....

Edit 9/25:
You're welcome

I am looking for a few suggestions for another meal during my Sabres trip. I am doing Duff's for their wings and 716 Food and Sport. Most likely La Nova to try out their pizza but am not sure about my last option yet. What else is around the rink beside Pearl Street Brewery?

Chef's

IMO .... A great experience. It's a two min drive from the arena.

Greetings from Canada,

I'm looking to buy a vintage jersey and thinking it may be easier to buy it in Buffalo and have it shipped to Canada.

Looking for one of the dark blues and would love to get it personalized.

Is there any places in Buffalo that would do it for a reasonable price or is there any websites that I should check out?

Dave and Adams - http://www.daveandadamsstore.com/ - may be able to help you out.

Do the Sabres still do nice cardstock tickets with good graphics for season ticket holders? Reason I ask is, in my pursuit of visiting every NHL arena I've been trying to collect a more commemorative ticket from each game. Problem is, a lot of teams are switching to paperless tickets so you can only find the crappy computer printer tickets from TicketMaster. I'm looking on StubHub and all the tickets there are Electronic. Usually if you see someone shipping tickets UPS it means they are the nicer tickets.

Yes, the Sabres still send season ticket holders - cardstock/hard tickets etc - special ones.
This season - like most seasons - has pictures of players on them.
The home opener vs Ottawa on October 8 has Brian Gionta in the white jersey. The next game vs Tampa Bay on October 10 has Matt Moulson in the blue jersey.
Most of the players are repeated and at least this season their picture for the second game or third game is different.

I'm assuming since your a New Jersey Devils fan - you will want to get a ticket from the New Jersey game on Saturday, October 24.
Unfortunately for some reason - you get no player - instead you get a shot of the Sabres blue practice jersey with the players head cut off - LOL!
If your attending the game - I'm sure a season ticket holder around you - will be willing to give his/her ticket to you.
If that doesn't happen - I'm sure you if you walk around the arena - in the seating area - there will be at least one hard copy one laying around - non soak in beer.
If you still need a hard ticket and I don't have to give my hard tickets to someone - I will be willing to send you one of the tickets.

BTW - I'm assuming you have seats to that game already - if not - send me a PM! If you need tickets to the Montreal game which is the night before - PM me too!

One season they had pictures of season ticket holders on them. A season ticket holder near me had his for one of the games.
Unfortunately it was one that he couldn't attend because he had to attend a wedding that day! LOL! He sold the tickets via Stubhub so he was able to keep the hard tickets.

Thanks for the quick reply! Yes, I'll be coming to town for the Devils game on October 24th. It's great to hear that they still have the nicer season tickets (as a Devils STH myself, I like having a nice ticket and collect them from all the games I attend). So I'll be happy to have one with a practice jersey on it haha.

I was hoping to get hard tickets for the actual seats we'll be in, but I'm sure it's tough to find someone in the location we're eyeing (103/104). I'll probably just get seats there and, as you suggested, ask around to see if someone will give me theirs. But I really appreciate your offer to send me one of your tickets if I can't find one!

Really looking forward to visiting Buffalo!

Sabs vs Devils game

Hey Colin226,

I am a current Sabres season ticket holder that is living in NYC (work brought me to the Big Apple).

I have to sell most of my games on Stubhub. I have sold that Devils game so I still have the original season ticket for that Devils game.

I can just send u my pair of tix to this game. These tickets are now null and void since I have sold them on Stubhub.

I dont post here too often, so either PM me or email me at mayday813 at yahoo dot com ur address and I'll drop them in the mail to you.

My Sabres season seats are in Section 110 Row 29.

I'm gonna try and make it to the Sabres/Devils game in Newark in April.

$60-80 would be good. Don't have a ton of money so I have to do things on a budget. A hostel would be great if there's one in the city.

The hostel is still at 667 Main St....Also, the metro-rail is above ground there...that means you don't have to pay to use it to and from the arena....

There ya go...cheap place to stay, and free transportation to and from the game

I could be wrong but I doubt you'll find any hotel in the city limits under $100 a night....

Headed to Buffalo this weekend for the Bills game with some buddies. We've done Anchor bar, wondering if there is another place in the Allentown area for some good wings?
