you guys are great! thanks!

Adams Mark seems nice, but is there anything cheaper?

One thing to keep in mind is that the above ground portion of the Metro rail rapid transit train is free. That section, which is just over a mile in length from the arena - has several hotel options along it that might be reasonable. Do a search of Buffalo hotels and I'm sure you'll find some. Off the top of my head I know there is a Hyatt, and Embassy Suites and a Comfort suites and a few more. If yo find a good deal in one of those places, you can always hop on the free train and it will drop you off vat about 1 minute's walk from the arena. It's crowded on game days for sure, though.

If the Sabres suck as expected, Stubhub will be way cheaper than box office. It's a little ways away. But, this is probably cheaper.http://hibuffalodowntown.com/ You can take a 5 minutes train to the arena and it's a quick walk to the Allen Street bars. Fair warning the train doesn't run super late.

I'm heading in to Buffalo next week for some family stuff, is any part of FNC open besides the team shop, for tours or anything like that.

It may seem crazy, but the last few times I was there in the summer I was able to walk right in and ask someone to give me a peek ;)

RJ8812...Like previous poster mentioned you could take the metro-rail....Then if you walk a few blocks over you hit Delaware Ave...

Hotels on Delaware are: Embassy Suites, Hampton, Best Western, and Holiday Inn...

Also you have the Comfort Suites right near Chippewa and Main...And the Hyatt on Pearl St right near the metro-rail too...

Stay away from the Red Carpet on Main St - really dirty and gross...

The Holiday Inn and Best Western are right near Allentown where you have a bunch of bars and restaurants.

Another cheap option might be the Lenox Hotel on North St I hear is cheaper...Though I hear it is a little dated....It's near Allentown, and they also have a bar and restaurant on premises.

Was in Buffalo in May and stayed at the Best Western on Delaware. For $150 a night, a king bed and a completely renovated bathroom....amazing deal.

Also. I'm thinking of driving down to Buffalo in September. It was primarily planned as a beer buying trip but I noticed Leafs/Sabres preseason game on Friday September 26th. Hit Premier Gourmet, Blue Monk and then check out a hockey game is a hell of a Friday but I can't find any info about tickets going on sale.

Am I missing something obvious? Have they not gone on sale yet? If not, when do they generally hit the market?

*edit*

Annnnnnd I'm an idiot who found the on sale time.

Apologies.

Sabres Game, need help with hotel, etc...

Hey everyone,

I'm heading down to see a game at the First Niagara Centre in November.

Was wondering a couple of things:

- What is the closest/pretty standard hotel to the arena. Looking to book a room and walk if possible
- If walking isn't possible will I can only assume a cab will take us to the arena.
- Any good restaurants in the area?
- Any other info on the area and arena would be great.

Thanks in advance!

Check the info for fans visiting buffalo sticky at the top. Vapor trail lays out a lot of places to stay on the last page, also plenty of places to eat, grab a drink, etc mentioned in there.

Read the post in the skinned thread above.

Unsure your budget...

You could stay downtown within walking distance

You could stay in the burbs and drive in trading cheaper hotel for having to pay to park

Another option is look along the subway line. You can park at the University of buffalo campus near the station and take the subway down. You can stay at places a little away from the arena but near the subway ( street level here $ and take it down for the game.

Walk to the subway I would say is about 5 to 10 minutes....Subway round trip would cost around $4 per person if I am not mistaken....

Walk to the arena I would think is about a 30+ minute walk

Cab to the arena is about $8 (that's not per person but per car load) - takes about 5 minutes

A friend is a big fan of IronWorks which is right by the arena.

I'm hoping some of you all can help me! :)

There is a group of about 10 of us coming from Pittsburgh for the Sabres/Pens game on 11/8 (we're all Pens fans but we're not jerks and know how to behave in somebody else's arena). I'm having a problem finding a hotel room close to FNC that isn't totally sold out for the night. So far I've tried Adams Mark, Hampton Inn, Hyatt regency, Best Western, Comfort Suites and the Courtyard Marriott. Nothing. Not a single room and we need at least 3. Literally the ONLY place I've found with rooms available is the Holiday Inn on Delaware Avenue. Is this close to FNC, either walkable or on the Metro line? And is it a decent place or should I keep looking? I saw some folks in this thread say to beware walking around at night - is this hotel in a bad area? FWIW there will be several big guys well over 6' in our group.

We'd like to stick with something moderately priced but at this point we'll take what we can get. We were hoping to be within walking distance but something along the Metro line would totally work, we just don't want to have to stay somewhere further away and drive unless we absolutely have to.

Jump on that Holiday Inn now or you may be SOL....When multiple things go on in Buffalo not only do all the downtown hotels sell out but even all the suburban hotels too!!! Book it now before it's too late !

It's walkable...also close to metro-rail...I have not heard anything bad about it...No it's not in a bad area....

I can't speak on the quality of the Holiday Inn either, but you'd be within walking distance of Allen Street, which has a bunch of bars, dining, nightlife, etc., and you're at most a ten minute walk to the MetroRail station that runs right on down to the arena. Gabriel's Gate is a popular wings spot if you head south a block then west on Allen Street, while the original wings at Anchor Bar are north a block then east if you head to North Street.
