Ask not what your team can do for you, but what you can do for your team.

Too many STILL can't see the forest for the trees. Rogers and Bell's stock prices fluctuate more in any given month than ML$E is worth ffs. These companies are sooooo rich they don't care what happens to the team.

It just has to exist.

The fact it's mediocre is irrelevant. The fact it's a hockey team is irrelevant. The fact it actually makes money is irrelevant

This team could be a dynasty, winning every year for the next decade, and it STILL wouldn't significantly affect it's parents companies revenues.

Rogers and Bell don't care about the Toronto Maple Leafs. They don't care about winning. And they don't care about you either.

Rogers and Bell only care about Rogers and Bell and what anyone else can do for them.

This notion that the Leafs only care about money is nonsensical and strangely echoed by many. In fact, teams can generate the most profit by going on long runs in the playoffs, as the additional tickets sales are not offset by more player compensation.

Winning a cup is just hard. There is a lot of parity in the league. While we all expect them to have done better in the past few years, I hardly believe it’s because they only care about money. If that were the case we’d just be a cap floor team.

There has been some talk that the team doesn't care to win and only wants to make money.
Many believe the best way to make money is to win.
Others seem to think the only goal is money and winning is secondary, no one has been able to explain how that makes sense.

Instead of taking another thread off topic, perhaps it could be explained here?

You just summed up Mitch Marner. We already have a Mitch thread...

He demands all the cap in the world, just to shy away from contact in playoffs. 6 over the glass penalties ( NHL record during that time span), crying on the bench (also unique in NHL ) while playing a disinterested game ?

Some players don't care about SC or Leafs. You need to get rid of them.

Keith Pelley fires his first figurehead in Toronto; Shanahan put on notice

1720802934541.png

MLSE President Keith Pelley made his first significant change Friday since being hired and it should serve as a warning to Maple Leafs management.

Yesterday, MLSE announced that Bill Manning, the President of the Toronto Argonauts and Toronto FC was fired. It's the first significant change made by Pelley since joining MLSE on April 1st and it should serve as a warning shot for the Maole Leafs' President and Alternate Governor, Brendan Shanahan.

When Pelley was introduced as CEO and President of MLSE, he made one thing very clear; that he is not a patient man and wants to see results. He wants to win championships.

With Manning out, Shanahan should take notice as he enters the reported final year of his contract. Under Shanny, the Leafs have won just one playoff round in nine years and a first-round exit this upcoming season would certainly mark the end of his tenure with the Leafs and the "Shanaplan" era in Toronto.

Many seem to believe that Shanahan is the one that has kept the Leafs' "Core 4" together for this long, and is ultimately pulling the strings behind the scenes. It will be something to keep an eye on throughout the season as to what happens if the Leafs under-perform. Shanahan could potentially even be replaced before the final year of his deal ends if the Leafs struggle this season.

I think Pelley will let Shanahan go before the end of the season regardless of the on ice performance.

Shanahan was 'put on notice'? Are these your thoughts ?

If Shannys contact isnt renewed it's going to be more about MLSE wanting to restructure it's corporate hierarchy than anything.

Pelley isnt here to run or interfere in hockey operations, expecting him to dictate what the team does is setting yourself up for disappointment

My guess is that the Raptors will be the only MLSE team to have a president. All other teams the GM’s will report directly to Pelley

Yep. Ujiri is a completely different situation.

Tre will end up getting a season or two to do things on his own for better or for worse. And we'll either see success or a new GM will get a shot

No one can possibly want him to do that.
