Why isn't McKenzie reporting any of this? I'm seeing tweets from him on the Callahan negotiations. Any insiders chiming in on this that are not just an obvious regurgitation of Dater's postings.

The Avs are a Western Conference team NOT in Chicago, LA or Vancouver...therefore they will not see a lot of attention from the Insiders...that's how it's always been.

There would be two types of teams wanting Stastny... The first are the cup contending teams that would only be willing to give up futures (St Louis, Anaheim, Montreal - pretty fringe, but could contend in the East might be in the 2nd group). The second are the teams in or near the playoffs that think they could re-sign him (Montreal, Columbus, Toronto, Washington, New Jersey, Phoenix, and Winnipeg)... those teams might be more willing to part with a younger impact player to get the deal done as it is more of a 'future' deal if he could be re-signed (teams would probably talk to his agent first). Now not all those teams would be interested, but those are who I see could be the most interested based on need and standing.

The group where you would get the best return is the 2nd group.

Oilers sign Scrivens to a 2 year deal...thought to be just over 2 mil per year. #TSN

Good to see Scrivens get a deal.

If we can somehow unload at least one of Wilson, Mitchell, Benoit, McLeod, Holden or even PAP I will be okay with this deadline.

I'm preparing myself to be disappointed though.

I've been wondering why too. Stastny is a huge name and is a UFA. Mckenzie hasn't even mentioned whether contract negotiations have taken place.

Dubnyk would be an interesting reclamation project, but that is exactly what he is. If JSG was going to retire, it might be worth giving Dubnyk a trial run with Allaire to see what he thinks of him as a backup. Least of the Avs worries right now though.

And now it looks like Matt Moulson may be on the move... Buffalo going to be very busy.

Things might actually be getting interesting.

Ceci looks good, Wiercoch is having a sophomore slump, but there's potential in him still, Methot is solid IMHO, Gryba as well as a 3rd pairing d-man. The one that shocks me the most is Cowen, he looks absolutely brutal out there, constantly making dumb mistakes, handling the puck like a grenade, he's fallen off the cliff this season.

You should read Travis Yost on HockeyBuzz...he rips Cowen regularly, but he has the evidence to back it up. Even when Cowen was holding out and eventually got paid decently he thought it was a bad gamble.

I agree Ceci and Wiercioch are decent and could develop, but I wouldn't bet on Cowen. Dude just strikes me as having ZERO hockey sense. I mean, seriously, just look at him.

I doubt there's much in the way of common sense, much less hockey sense, going on in there.

Moulson is a guy I was intrigued by in the offseason if we moved PAP for a Dman.

I hope things get interesting. Last few years have been meh.

Is it funny how one season changes expectations of players?

I made a Stostny for Gardiner thread in the summer and I got ripped to shreads by Leaf fans for it, now they would easily make that trade.

Then I remember that even Sens fans were effin crazy about Cowen; wanted massive overpayment in all threads, now they would easily take Parenteau or Stostny for him straight up or in a package.

I would take Cowen much more than Myers, Tyler has better potential and probably will be the better player no doubt. But Cowen could be grown into the new Hejda.

I think Dubnyk would be a good back-up if the Avs didn't have Giggy. He's played like a 1B goalie with the exception of this season.

Remember when we were told by literally the entire Leaf fanbase two years ago Gardiner for Duchene was fair? Amazing how some young players don't live up to their teams lofty expectations(created by overzealous fans and Canadian media).

We don't need the wreckage that is Dubnyk's NHL career.

Lots on twitter now.

Pagnotta and Dreger says Sens are exploring the idea of trading Spezza. Moulson is missing from Sabres morning skate. Detroit is interested in Ehrhoff and Islanders offers on MacDonald suggests he is a 3rd pairing defenseman on a top 10 team.

Should be an interesting 50 hours.
