this is going to shock the f***ing hell out of you but the vast majority of fans don't follow a team because their fans of the GM so any move that's made they just give there opinion on it

now there's some fans that may follow the team just to wait for when the camera pans on the GM preening in his luxury box but for most the entertainment is on the ice
The only reason Dubas has such devout fans is because he’s young and he’s a stats guy. This relates well to kids that don’t play much competitive sports and gives them some sort of confidence. It’s super weird as I doubt other GMs have this following. I just don’t understand why they are still on this board. Go praise Dubas on the Pens board where they have a happy audience.

do you think part of the reason people hated him so much is because they played competitive sports and he didn't?

He strikes me as the type that is willing to put in the work to try to get back to form.

I also think he is well aware he has been bad.

Sure this is not shocking, and I wouldn't be surprised if he is fine with this.
I doubt that he is fine with this. It's a step back for him and he might never find his game again.

Murray, Campbell and Samsonov are fragile creatures ,and will be duly noted as such.

I hope the guy gets it together and has a good long career

It obviously wasn't going to happen this season, he needed to be waived and it's done

You can only lose so many games singlehandedly before the ax falls and he's had more than enough chances

Best of luck Ilia, I doubt we see you on the Leafs again any time soon

Yeah, and the majority of so-called advanced stats are complete BS. Using 'expected' as a metric rather than what actually happens is beyond stupid.

He has this following because it allows stats geeks who never played competitive sports at anything above the house league level to feel superior to the jocks who they have been envious off their entire lives.

Because they are desperate to prove they were right, no matter how absurd their arguments.

Jones/Hildeby tandem is a frickin joke.

'Member when the org planned this team to go with Samsonov/Woll as their tandem?

Hildeby is not ready, and Jones is bad.

Jones is not bad. He has been fine. He is not the answer nor the saviour, but he is a competent goalie who can give solid minutes as backup and a consummate professional who can help mentor Woll.

Mitch's prime, Mitch who cries in the penalty box, who would be defeated in a board battle by any number of posters' teenage sons (they play competitive sports just like their old man did)

He has no following.

Anyone who likes some of his moves is labeled as such though.

This is also a really weird thing to say, I assume I played a higher level and more recently than 95%+, does my opinion hold more weight than most of this board? The answer is no.

Anyone can learn the game, it is not exclusive to people who have played at a high level.

Some of the best coaches and executives never played high-level hockey

Now because I am curious... what is your highest level and how long ago was it? I only played AAA, so nothing special, but the NHLers I played, the majority are still playing.

Yes you are. Don't pretend like you got plans
We both know you are staring at your 2nd screen, canada and germany on the other

lets not pretend like you got 'life' going on. This is it bro, this is it
If you get married, you'll understand.
Until then - if that happens, keep working on your fortnite kid.

We had to resign him. We had an unproven kid and nothing else. The key was holding the line and not committing long term. This idea we just walk away from him last year is Dubist nonsense.

Tre made two good goalie moves, bringing in Jones for solid depth and not committing/arbitration with Sam. Win, win.
Solid points that some posters still can't understand.

How is signing a player who isn't going to play for the team and carries a 3.5 million dollar cap hit a good move?

I've seen multiple people say this... can anyone explain?

and because he never played competitive sports and neither did the people who liked him as the GM (dubists lol)
only people who follow the sport to cheer for the GM would believe this , the vast majority of fans don't give a damn who the GM is , never mind what his background is

you believed trading for Murray and signing Mzerak were great moves so you should believe signing Sammy is a next level genius move by comparison

I believe signing Samsanov was the right move.

I am asking the people (like yourself) who use hindsight to decide how good a move was how they could think it was a good move.

Timmins has outlived his welcome. It's time to move away from him as well
lol. He has the best P/60 of any D on the team, including Rielly, best possession metrics, best xGA and xGF/60, best actual GF&GA/60, but yeah he gives away the puck sometimes so let's throw him away for nothing and play Giordano 20 minutes/game again.
