Whatever you consider a traumatic experience, someone else likely doesn't consider a traumatic experience... it is all relative.

I wouldn't feel bad for the guy if his Ferarri got repoed, but not being able to perform well at one of the most important things in your life and thousands of people letting you know constantly is likely pretty bad for mental health.
Not only this, but there is the very real possibility of:

"Being a goalie in the professional hockey league is the only thing I'm good at, and now I'm not even good at that. Therefore, I'm not good at anything"

Black-hole of thinking that makes things really dark.

It's really sad that people will treat other humans with varying degrees of empathy based solely on how much money they have.

Absolutely lamentable the direction society has taken in the last century or so.

I hope he deals with his mental health demons and bounces back.

No one should be celebrating the anti climax of his career right now. He's clearlly struggling mentally and thats sad to see, it's more important than some silly love for a sports team.

I hope you all live much deeper and richer lives than just bleeding blue and white. At the end of the day its a game, don't wish anything negative on a fellow humanbeing who is struggling.

What absolute shameful insanity.

Yes, I feel bad for the.... I don't know... welder... who all of a sudden realizes he's shit at his job, gets fired, is broke, and has absolutely no plan for the future. Sure. I absolutely empathize with that.

But entitled elitist rich athletes that made 10 million dollars by the age of 26? Oh, boo f***ing hoo. You couldn't cut it but you still got filthy f***ing rich anyways. And you can still make a VERY good living playing in Russia.

On my list of people to feel sorry for, such spoiled rich athletes like Samsonov are in the bottom 0.000000000001%.

It was nice to know ye!
It is not your fault, it was Brad who gave you credit you didn't deserve.
Go home, love your new baby, snuggle your lovely wife, get some education on how to help goalies of the future.
But whatever you choose to do, coming back to the Leafs as a goalie cannot be one of the options.
Dealing with this is hard if it was one of millions of Leaf fans, but you got advantage, $3.5m

What are the chances he gets claimed?

Is that something we want? Or do we want him to regain his form and come back?

I'm hoping he doesn't get claimed and regains his form, cause if Hildeby gets lit up it will be a long month waiting for Woll to be back. And an even longer season if he gets hurt again (or Jones)
Part of me hopes he can remain here and regain form because he and Woll were the intended tandem from the start. All the credit in the world to Jones though if he can continue to perform as he has thus far (while obviously counting for significantly less against the cap).

I'd probably lean against him being claimed just because that AAV is not insignificant for the waiver wire (the lack of term on the contract is what makes the notion at all possible, slim as that possibility may be).

I think people forget sometimes that ultimately it is supposed to be entertainment. Wish the media in this city would disappear. A lot of the negativity surrounding this team feels very astroturfed.

Right move. Had plenty of opportunity to get back on track while in the NHL. Maybe he finds his way back sometime, somewhere else. We’ve seen enough.

Great post, he is a young guy with the family and newborn, it’s not easy on anyone.

People seem to be confusing mentally struggling with the goaltending position with overall mental health.

And you think the difference is what exactly?

Poor performance in any job and or career can cause anxiety and depression, that could evolve into a very slippery slope for your mental health in the short and long term.

Its all mental health, every part of it. Not having resilency anymore and succoming to the negative thoughts "seems" to be whats happening right now and he is struggling. There is no "mental for goaltending" and "mental health" they are the same.

If he's not dealing with being a goalie and the mental struggle well, he's not dealing with his mental health well and could be going down a very rough path of thinking if he doesn't get help soon.

Is there a reason people are assuming that he is having some sort of breakdown that requires professional help?

Well he has said it is all mental. That doesn't, necessarily, mean a breakdown but it is something that should be addressed with a sports psychologist. Maybe that would help, or maybe he is hockey's version of Ian Baker-Finch.

Jones/Hildeby tandem is a frickin joke.

'Member when the org planned this team to go with Samsonov/Woll as their tandem?

Hildeby is not ready, and Jones is bad.

Sending a 22 y old with less than 30 AHL games experience in the NHL is not a recipe for success. If they go that way, it shows their incompetence.

They need to get a proper goalie to go with Woll when he "hopefully" comes back 100% from a mid season high ankle sprain.
