Shestyorkin is a better goalie. Thats on 20 shots. SKA has 30 shots, so they aren't getting outplayed. 3 of those 5 goals were on him, hard to really blame anyone else. The other two could've also been blamed on him for getting five holed or being slow to get over to the other post, but were good scoring chances.

Igor Shestyorkin 31GP 1.53 .943
Mikko Koskinen 14GP 1.84 .926

SKA lost 3 straight since they put Costco back in the net. He's more experienced than Shesterkin, but nowhere near as talented. This frustrates me as much as watching Weekes start over Hank in the fall of 2005 because of experience. Shesterkin needs to start against the Joke tomorrow.

Guys truly how good potentially is a Shestyorkin? I posed this on our trade/speculation thread a little while ago. Is he so good that you wouldn't deal him for a Trouba or a Barrie for example along with a future #1 pick and a Miller and/or Hayes?

I've never seen him play. I've heard and read good things about him but what is his upside? Is he considered one of the 2-3 top goalie prospects in the world or what? i know alot of you guys follow prospects closer than I do and so I'd love to read your thoughts and input....thx in advance.

Wouldn't do Shesty for Barrie straight up. Would have to think long about it for Trouba, but would probably say no.

And, yeah, I realize that sounds crazy. But, I truly believe Shesty has the ability to be an elite level starter and the ideal guy to come in and take over for Hank eventually. I get that a Shesty for Trouba deal favors us massively, but I just don't want this team to go back to having guys like Weekes and Dunham be starters. Goalies are like RB. People think you can plug any guy into the backfield as long as you have a good o-line, but it's not true. And people think you can plug any goalie in front of a good team and they'll do well. That is also not true.

His potential is that of an elite goalie. He's as good as Lundqvist at the same age, possibly a little better. To be fair, Corey Hirsch went from being viewed as more valuable than Mike Richter in 1992 and even 1993 to then being dumped for a 4th liner early in 1995. Later Johan Holmqvist did well as a 19-year-old in Sweden, which at the time was the second-best league in the world; followed by great performance in the WJC. Then he turned into a meh goalie.

That said, Shesterkin is a better prospect than Hirsch or Holmqvist were at the same age and he's more advanced in his development. I'd like to see where this thing is headed before dealing him away. Imagine the management decided that since most goalies go bust anyway, let's trade Lundqvist for Petr Sykora in 2003 when he was a 59-point player and Hank was the same age as Shesterkin is right now. The trade would seemingly be a big win for the Rangers, but we'd be coughing blood to this day every time we watched him in another uniform had that happened.

Shesterkin could turn into a Corey Hirsch or a Johan Holmqvist, but he could also be a franchise goalie until 2025.

I think there are five untouchables within the organization. McDonagh, Stepan, Kreider, Buchnevich and Shestyorkin.

I don't know where he ranks in a top goalie prospect ranking around the NHL, but he is an elite goalie prospect. He's been elite for years. I would not trade him, unless I got a significant overpayment.

100% agreed.

The oaf is starting again today.

I thought the team was only giving him a rest after the tournament? Has Shesty lost his starting job for no apparent reason? I mean I can think of one hopeful but extremely unrealistic reason which involves a back up position in the NHL....

Until we have more depth in defense I would add Skjei to that. Less to do with the production of those five and more to do with our lack of assets on the backend who can excel in the new NHL.

Trouba straight up is a deal you take any day of the week. Proven NHL player, young, and fits a need. That's a hell of a lot more valuable than a great looking kid who still hasn't proved anything in the NHL. Unless he turns into the second coming of Hasek that's a win. (I don't think there's a chance in hell that trade would ever get offered to us)

Shesty has to be the best goalie prospect (not in the NHL) in hockey right? He's better than Samsonov and Koskinen, and then who else is there? Demko? Nedjelkovic? Hell, I'd take Huska over some of those guys.

SKA loses again, in part of Kosk giving up 3 goals on 21 shots :handclap:

Keep sitting Shest if you want to keep losing SKA

It's incredibly difficult to gauge. I'd would say that Shesty, Samsonov, and Sorokin are all basically neck and neck. All somewhere in the top 5 goaltending prospects.

Unsigned prospect, sure. Signed...I'm not so sure anymore.
