Love stories like this :)

Can we get Igor over next year assuming we lose Raanta in the expansion draft? Hits like the one last night on Lundqvist are a good reminder that things can change quickly - although thankfully Henrik seems alright this time.

When he gets to MSG, do we chant I-gor or Shest-y?

I will be chanting..."I-GOR! I-GOR!" . I will often refer to him as Tsar.

26/27 saves. Faced more shots than the other goalie. His team won 5-1. That should tell you something about the play of the two goalies.

How good is this tournament? Are these top end Russians and Czechs like in the WC or second-rate guys getting the chance because the stars are sitting?

Channel One Cup is Russia's "home" leg of the tournament and they ice a good squad. I haven't looked at the rosters for Sweden, Czech and Finland, but they're probably icing a combination of established national team players and younger prospects.

It's not Olympic-caliber, but EHT is a competitive tournament.

Super excited for this guy. Might open up the possibility of trading Hank at some point before he declines completely. I know the salary is nuts, but I think there are teams that would take a chance on him

I think its big news that he started over Sorokin. Sorokin had gotten the "#1 goalie" starts the last two tournaments before this game. If Shestyorkin is ahead of Sorokin on the depth chart, he might play some games at the World Championship, if he's the back up to Varlamov. If Tampa and Columbus get out of the first round, he could be the back up to Varlamov because Bobrovskiy and Vasilevskiy would still be in the playoffs during the tournament. They could have Khudobin be the back up, but he's really struggled this season, so I doubt it.

I didn't watch this game, but from the highlights, none of the goals seem to have been his fault and the third goal was unlucky that it went in, considering he got the puck with his stick. It hit the post and went in, so he successfully redirected the puck, but just not enough. 31/34 saves, which isn't great, but not terrible.

Love stuff like that where you can talk the game with fans of not only other teams but of say the KHL. Best of both. You happen to ask him anything else? Buchnevich and what he saw from him last year?

Unfortunately his English wasn't too good but he said he felt Igor was much better than Sorokin and a real crowd favorite. He knew he Igor was eventually headed to the Rangers but wasn't sure when it would happen.

Unfortunately not much other conversation. It took him a while to realize I knew what SKA was. He was impressed with my IFK tee shirt though.

That tournament is over already?

Did Russia win?

Yeah, just a four team tournament, so it wasn't that long.

Igor goes back to SKA now. Next game is on Friday. Koskinen played for SKA in a scrimmage against the Russian WJC team the other day. If Shestyorkin is still starting every match when he returns, I think he's the permanent starter.

It looks like someone melted down a baseball trophy's plated gold, put it around a birthday cake #1 and some Starting Lineup goalie bits, and stuck it in a bar of soap.

Actually the 1 on that trophy is the logo of Russia's Channel One, which is in the tournament name. No idea what's going on on the rest of that trophy though. Especially the bottom lettering.

So... the WJC? Is Igor too old to play? I know very little about this tournament. With him being one of the top 3 goaltending prospects in the world, I would think he would go play in this tournament?

SKA plays tomorrow after a few weeks off. 10 AM ET. 3 game road trip starting in Tolyatti. The big Finn made the trip, so TBA whether Shestyorkin or Koskinen will start.
