To be fair, SKA is on par with NHL teams in a league where some of the teams are equal to low-end AHL teams, with most teams being on par with high-end Calder Cup contenders. CSKA is also on par with NHL teams. Maybe a couple other teams could play evenly with low-end NHL squads. SKA is a great team at the KHL level.

He has an Ask FM where fans and maybe some people he knows ask him questions. I don't completely know, Ask FM was popular when I think I was in middle school, I don't really know whats popular in Russia. Here's a link to his account for anyone that wants to follow or ask any questions. He gets a lot of non-hockey related questions also. http://ask.fm/Igorshesterkin

Someone asked whether his priority was a career in the NHL or one with his current team SKA, and he answered his priority is the experience, so he was being very diplomatic. He's not trying to upset anyone. I've asked him a few times about the Rangers, the NHL, Lundqvist, although I didn't ask him this most recent question about the NHL.

He's been very diplomatic about his answers. The only question he answered directly was that he wants to play with Lundqvist before the end of Lundqvist's career, and he answered that one in English. Thats the only question I can remember him answering in English. I asked him that question in Russian, so :dunno: Good to see he interacts with the fans though. Like a year or two ago he had an active twitter account and was answering questions from a Rangers fan who was asking him about when he'd join the Rangers.

So yeah, next stop for Shestyorkin is the Channel One Cup, which is the home stage of the Eurotour games for Russia NT, which means that all the best available guys are gathered there. It will be held on 15-th to 18-th of December and will be televised, so, if anyone is interested, there should be plenty of streams available.

Looking forward to it!

I wonder if he'll get a chance to be the #1 keeper for Russia at this tournament. The last round of games, it was Sorokin, but that might've been because of his higher stature the previous season. Has it now evened up that Shestyorkin is having a better season?

Incredible small world story...flying to NYC right now and sitting with SKA fan from St. Petersburg and talking about Igor. He says it is well known Igor is heading to the Rangers soon. Said he has been unbelievably good this year. Hockey certainly bridges the world, doesn't it?

Sorokin was not lucky in Russia's 3-1 loss against Sweden. Russia should have won easy but Sweden scored two fluke goals, of which one own goal looked pretty odd from Sorokins point of view (he lost track of a puck that glided into the net).

Hopefully Shestyorkin gets the nod the rest of the way...

Russian 29=Kovalev
Shipashov (signed this summer)=Nemchinov
Russian 30=Mike Richter

But who will become our Zubov? Darn that we missed out on both Zaitsev and Stacher...

Sergey Zborovskiy? they even have the same initials. Also, Richter isn't Russian so the comparisons are confusing!

Love stuff like that where you can talk the game with fans of not only other teams but of say the KHL. Best of both. You happen to ask him anything else? Buchnevich and what he saw from him last year?

Love stories like this :)

Can we get Igor over next year assuming we lose Raanta in the expansion draft? Hits like the one last night on Lundqvist are a good reminder that things can change quickly - although thankfully Henrik seems alright this time.

When he gets to MSG, do we chant I-gor or Shest-y?

26/27 saves. Faced more shots than the other goalie. His team won 5-1. That should tell you something about the play of the two goalies.
