Who the **** does this kid think he is giving up a goal and losing 3 games. Send him to Siberia.

The goal is to make the KHL a multi-national league, not just a Russian league. There are 8 countries represented in the KHL, though the 7 countries other than Russia have only 1 team each. Still, it's pretty impressive to have teams not just from the former Soviet Union, but also from China, Slovakia, Croatia, even Finland joining the league. I'm surprised there's no team from Serbia since they're such a close ally of Russia. The quality of hockey is terrific there too. Butcher went from a third liner for SKA to a third liner for the Rangers in a matter of one off-season. Tells you how good the KHL is.

P.S. According to the KHL President (their version of Gary Bettman), they're presently negotiating with a team from London, and had inquiries from Milan, Dresden and Geneva. Another Swiss group expressed interest to create a KHL team in Huttwil, Switzerland. A Polish owner wants to start a team in Gdansk. Norway, Estonia and Prague are also known to have interested teams. AIK from Stockholm signed up to play in the KHL and Malmo expressed interest in it, but the Swedish hockey association blocked it and declared that Swedish teams would not be allowed to join the KHL. Espoo Blues and Karpat from the Finnish Liiga are possibly interested in joining.

And all this with crowds below 10000 most everywhere. The league is hemorrhaging money and talking of contraction.

It's really a joke.

I feel bad for him.

He was standing on his head in this game, and his team just completely let him down. Should've been like 4 or 5 goals for Admiral through 2, but Shestyorkin made a lot of point blank saves.

Then in the third when he's played well enough to give them a chance to get a few goals lead, they blow an assignment to take away his shutout on the one point blank chance of many point blank chances in this game that he just didn't stop. The goal that was scored didn't even matter for the game score since they still had a two goal lead, it mattered because he wouldn't get a shutout after how hard he worked.

28/29 saves does his performance absolutely no justice. Other than that CSKA game earlier in the season where he stopped close to 40, this was the best he's played.

Is it wrong that when I see The Czar give up a goal on 29 shots, I'm disappointed for a split second?

skies the limit with this kid.

hes a 95 birth year, so he's very young.

with his aggressive development curve, one can only imagine what strides he will make with bennys help.

if he's not our #1 prospect now, he's 1B.

those numbers are stupid good and his play passes all the tests.

He's very clearly our 3 or 4 (depending on how you rank Skjei). He's a great prospect, but he's simply not above guys like Vesey or Buch. I'd rank him below Skjei, too. Excelling in the NHL (not just playing in it) means way more than KHL stats.

Isn't that a little unfair? He has no opportunity to play in the NHL.

So is he the best goalie prospect in hockey?

Hard to tell. He might not even be the top Russian prospect. Sorokin and Samsonov are both very good, also. I don't see any clear #1 goalie prospect. Saros, Shestyorkin, Sorokin, Hart, Demko, Samsonov are all good. Fans of the teams they play for probably think their prospect is the best.

Shestyorkin was called up to the Russian National Team. SKA has one more game on Thursday before the KHL takes a break for a few weeks.

Basically describes Hank's first 7 years with the Rangers.

Life isn't always fair. The fact that those 3 are doing what they are doing in the best league in the world speaks for itself.

Shesty is miles and miles ahead of any of our non-NHL prospects.

So is he the best goalie prospect in hockey?

It's between him and Sorokin, the property of the Islanders. They have a near identical GAA, but Shesterkin has .012 better SV%. Sorokin has an extra year in the KHL. Both are playing on very good KHL teams that are easily the 2 best teams in the league.

That said, in 1992 the Rangers and the Islanders also had two of the best goalie prospects in the league. They lined up against each other in the Olympics. Our guy was Corey Hirsch who faced twice as many shots as their guy Tommy Salo. But the game went into the OT and then the SO, and Forsberg scored on Hirsch, giving Salo the win. Long story short, Salo turned into a terrible starter / good backup, while Corey Hirsch wound up with a short NHL career after we traded him for a 4th liner Nathan LaFayette at the 1995 trading deadline.

Goalies go bust a lot.

I still laugh at him getting pulled in the wjc final. Just because he let in two early doesnt mean the moment was too big for him. He just happened to get sniped by the duke and let in a redirection in front i believe. It happens.

Neither goal was his fault. I think he was pulled to get a reaction from the team after a bad start. Bragin does things like that.

It's almost like a random attacker in soccer getting subbed out after a defender or goalie on their team gets a red card. They didn't do anything wrong to come out of the game, but the circumstances dictated someone randomly had to take the hit.

The goalie who actually played bad in that game was Sorokin who replaced Shestyorkin. Had he played well, Russia might've won that game.

Will NEVER forget that Olympic game against Belarus

I think you need to consider a lot more factors now compared to 1992 though. Goalies are better, better technique, etc.

We also have most likely the best goalie coach in the NHL in Benny Allaire.

Those are a couple things I think you could consider.

when put this way, i certainly agree.

Highlight life isn't fair too :naughty:

Shesty looks good. I'm actually very impressed with his play. I didn't expect him to have that good of stats. I've been watching his games for a while now. I hope he keeps developing well and becomes better at positioning and solidifies himself more. Not saying he isn't now but he could get a little better in some areas

In every game he plays, there are at least 3 others who are at least on par with the average NHLer or much better than the average NHLer. Kovalchuk, Datsyuk and Voynov would obviously be very good NHLers. Shipachev, Dadonov, Gusev would be at least average NHLers too. Most other KHL teams have at least 2-3 NHL level players.

Being one of the top 3 stars of the game means outplaying most of the guys who could easily play in the NHL.

Won today's game vs Dynamo. 2-1 shootout win, let in the first shot on a backhander, other two attempts missed the net.

Another disappointing start (=no shut out). Dynamo is 5th of 14 in the KHL Western Conference, so a solidly playoff team. Good job stopping 96% of shots today.
