SKA plays at 6:30AM Eastern Time. They are playing in China against Kunlun. Koskinen is part of the trip to China, and after not playing last game while being on the trip, he could play this game.

Which one of you was bothering the SKA twitter account about Shestyorkin?

Seems to be giving up a lot more goals lately. 10 in the last 4 games..before that just 9 goals in 14 games..

Not playing as well as he should, but in a game like this, its hard to fault him for the goals. If you look at them, there wasn't actually much he could do. First one was deflected in front of net, second was a breakaway, third there were a lot of bodies in front of the net so he couldn't see the puck.

I just hope he can start playing better. Giving up more than 2 goals consistently is not good at this level for a high level prospect.

SKA's next game is at 2AM Eastern Time on Saturday. They are playing in Eastern Russia, so its at a much earlier time than usual.

Yup, travel 10 hours to play in front of total of 500 fans. :help:

Russia and China are trying to make sure they are not just Moscow/St. Pete and Beijing/Shanghai. Not just in hockey, both nations are investing in the periphery to make life there pleasant even if it does not seem efficient. As for flying 10 hours, it's not so bad on a private plane.

Do they still fly on out of date and dangerous aircrafts?

He is playing so well though. SKA are getting outplayed badly by Khabarovsk. I was hoping for a 40 save shutout, but playing well is more important.

5-hole on a 2 on 1. Not a horrible goal, but could've stopped it. But great the rest of the game.

Kunlun is a Beijing club... :amazed:

As for making life more pleasant, their leaders should worry first about improving abominable (not a hyperbole) quality of life of millions in those regions (or elsewhere) instead of their own entertainment and maybe barely a handful of hockey fans in these locales.

Beacon, I probably missed a heavy dose of sarcasm in your post.

He also played what I would consider his best hockey game in weeks.

I fell asleep before the 3rd period, but he was very strong the first 2. Didn't give up any goals in the 3rd so all good. Will count it as a bounce back game.

I think the China post got taken way out of context.

I just find it very neat that there is professional, top tier hockey being played in China. It's such an out of the box area compared to where the rest of the leagues are.

The goal is to make the KHL a multi-national league, not just a Russian league. There are 8 countries represented in the KHL, though the 7 countries other than Russia have only 1 team each. Still, it's pretty impressive to have teams not just from the former Soviet Union, but also from China, Slovakia, Croatia, even Finland joining the league. I'm surprised there's no team from Serbia since they're such a close ally of Russia. The quality of hockey is terrific there too. Butcher went from a third liner for SKA to a third liner for the Rangers in a matter of one off-season. Tells you how good the KHL is.

P.S. According to the KHL President (their version of Gary Bettman), they're presently negotiating with a team from London, and had inquiries from Milan, Dresden and Geneva. Another Swiss group expressed interest to create a KHL team in Huttwil, Switzerland. A Polish owner wants to start a team in Gdansk. Norway, Estonia and Prague are also known to have interested teams. AIK from Stockholm signed up to play in the KHL and Malmo expressed interest in it, but the Swedish hockey association blocked it and declared that Swedish teams would not be allowed to join the KHL. Espoo Blues and Karpat from the Finnish Liiga are possibly interested in joining.
