If you add 2 quality defensemen, this team gets much better really really fast.

Moser/Durzi don't have to play 'huge' defensive minutes

Offense is going to take a 'huge' leap next season with Guenther ready for prime time minutes, Cooley is going to be even better and Doan is a takeaway machine. I believe we will be a top 10 scoring team next season if they get a Skjei/Pesce or Dillon/DeMelo type top pairing

I'm saying it right now, next years team makes the playoffs.

Smith talks about his 60k strong Junior Jazz program every chance he gets and how huge hockey will be for youth sports in Utah. He says this in every interview. I’ve heard him mention Yeti twice now. That’s a name that will certainly be loved by children and makes a ton of sense for youth hockey spin-offs. Now that he sees it as bringing together the “U” and the “Y” - I think it’s game over.

Only way it’s not the Yeti(s) is if someone convinced him the extremely popular consumer brand by that name is an issue.

Not sure what you mean?
“Horse names are taken” elimination concept doesn’t feel rooted in reality. What about bird names? Is there one bird team in all of pro sports or are 17 of theme?

Challenge:

Find a Yeti logo the anti-Yeti crowd doesn’t hate.

I’ve hated all of the ones I’ve seen. But there’s got to be a creative idea for how to do it that doesn’t suck. A an image of a basic cartoon yeti face absolutely sucks. There’s got to be a better way.

Generic. Boring. They’re gonna go with something fresh and original with high marketability, especially to younger people. Thats why you’ve seen these newer type names ala Kraken and Golden Knights…they’re original and marketable

I think this is the key.

As for those other two franchises, it would have been so easy to use something like Vegas Aces or Seattle Emeralds.

I think you can be bold without driving it right over the cliff.

I know it's lame, but I like

Utah Blizzard

Colorway: Ice Blue/White/Indigo/Grey

Pardon my ignorance, but does Southern Utah get much snow? Or even a blizzard? I know it snows a little bit in SLC, but if the intention is to represent the whole state, Blizzard may not make much sense.

Fair. It just feels so overdone. Broncos, Colts, Mustangs, Stampeders.

How many people live in southern Utah? I feel like there’s only St George and 9/10 of the other most populated cities are in the northern half of the state.

Also, any of the random little suburbs in the valley dwarf any of those cities (apart from SLC) in population. Scottsdale, Tempe, Chandler, Mesa, heck
Even Gilbert.

I like the concept. I’d like to see it made
more mountain, less yeti. And maybe simplify the color and shading format. See if it could be done with Dark half and light half, with yeti features being the negative. Push the yeti into the background and make it something closer to what a kid could draw in his binder while bored in class.

Kachina Yote is high concept with a simple execution. Kids can draw it. If they can give me a negative space yeti in a simple mountain range, I’m warming up.

Also seems like if you play with the peaks you can easily get a “U” or a “Y” out of that logo.

Regarding central/southern Utah, I think adding the rust/copper/red rock color to the predominantly snow/blue logo and brand helps to tie in.

That monument valley color we can all instantly picture in our minds. It’s a good accent anyway.

Yes, assuming they keep the management and core in place and don’t do anything stupid. Easier for me to say yes as a non-local fan.

Totally random, just seeing your location.

Were you in Union Station last week wearing a Coyotes Jersey with no name plate?

Only reason I ask is I was on my way to the office and was like "what the hell, that's the first Coyotes jersey I've ever seen" lol

Add to challenge: Must be a Kachina Yeti.

For SLC, 55" of snow annually, blizzards do happen and I have never been in the region where I didn't see snow on those beautiful, mountains. The state is the second driest in the union behind Nevada so blizzards might match the city but don't see it as a match for the state. Besides that, Avalanche is their nearest neighbor and then you have the Hurricanes...would rather they be unique. My preference would be to keep the Coyotes (or rebrand as the Yotes) like they kept the Jazz name but sounds like AMs plans will get in the way of that. So Yeti works best imho.
