No matter how bad this season gets I don’t see Keefe getting fired. I think we will see a coaching change after this season. Especially when/if they miss the playoffs.
I don’t know man. I don’t think Shanny would survive a missed playoff season, and I think he knows it.

If there’s even a sliver microscopic chance that it’s looking like they’ll miss the playoffs, I think he convinces Tre to pull the trigger on turfing Keefe.

They certainly don't want to miss. Although MLSE makes most of their money in the regular season, they also get a big bump when people buy up the merch for the playoff run. I am sure that's a nice little bump in profits. I don't think most parents and young fans wait until 3rd round to buy up the wares.

Berube should be hired immediately

Next coach needs to be a hardass, if the players don't like it they can waive that fancy NTC they demanded

Someone like Mike Babcock? or Lou?

You can't tell them to wear a tie when attending team meetings. Shaving ? WTF Hittler much?

The same people, we are lacking discipline, morale and generally work your ass off attitude / coulture. Let's sign Folingo, I bet we are missing Folingo..

Pretty sure management were betting on Mitchy, AM, Willie to grow up and develop into the never quit, 'lay it all on the line' types...safe to say that ship has sailed.

very good point, I would say you are right. Let’s see how this Western Canadian road swing goes this week. If they go out there and get thrashed, potentially that could seal Keefes fate.

Dubas handcuffed the Leafs and Keefe. Undoing Dubas' garbage will take time. Personally don't care what dubas does. Before a coach can do anything, players have to take accountability themselves i.e. undo dubas' entitled culture.

time to see what this team does when faced with adversity. Would be pretty telling. Nylander is now a "signed" asset that can still be flipped if needed. All options are on the table.

Keefe is most definitely an issue. simple example: he never broke matthews-marner in the playoffs and continued to lose series. The one time he broke them against tampa leafs won the series. And then he went back to the duo against panthers and continued to lose. Thats not a coach that can game plan or coach on the fly.
The only thing I disagree with is Keefe put them, AM and MM, back together. They told him to play them together or else. Most of these players don't listen to Keefe which is why he picks on Kampf or Robertson.
Remember last year when Bunting turned away on the bench.
They run Keefe.
His time has come and gone.

Let me start by saying, we have bigger issues than the coach on this team, and I don't think firing Keefe will make a difference, but at the same time, thats the only move we can make, and he has overstayed his welcome.
So who would you pick?

Berube seems to be a popular answer especially considering his comments, but according to Blues fans, here is his make up. Good with motivating, but tactically he isn't a good coach.

I'm not mentioning Joel Q because I doubt MLSE goes anywhere near him.
What were his comments?

I’d guess if keefe is let go (long overdue imo) it’ll be Boucher for the remainder of the season.

I 100% wait on coach Q if im Treliving. I don’t make a change until he’s available

Why wouldn't they 'care about a cup'?
That's always made no sense to me.

They wouldn’t care because they don’t seem interested in doing what it takes to get themselves a cup.

Think about it like this, you want to be the CEO of your company, you think you’d make better decisions, you’d pay your employees better and you’d make a lot more money.

However, you don’t go to university and become a master of finance, you don’t become a lawyer first, you don’t have any interest in going to night school, or finding a path to get to your ‘goal’ of being the CEO of your company.

Because it’s too much work.

Sure, you ‘care’ about all these things, like getting a better job and making your company a better place to work, but when you look at yourself in the mirro, can you say you really care if you’re not willing to put all the work into it to get there?

That’s the leafs. They care, with a lower case ‘c’. They care the same way we care to win the lottery. They care in a very passive and wishful way.

Sure they’d like to win the cup, but they don’t Care with a capital ‘C’, because winning the cup is hard and you have to do things to get there that these players aren’t willing to do.

You don’t win a Stanley cup playing the way the maple leafs play. If they actually cared, they’d play like Vegas, or Boston, or Tampa, Florida, etc

Exactly, because in MLSE land the inmates rule the asylum (which to be fair, isn't all that uncommon with sports teams).
If the stars don't like the new guy, he's gone long before they are.

Unless, Treliving makes it clear that the new bench boss is the man. If players don't listen or play for him, they'll be stapled to the bench or watching from the press box. Of course, that won't happen but if you're going Berube/Torts-type guy, it has to be this way or it'll fail.

I agree with this, the players need a mental reset and to be taught how to play to win.

I’d choose a year where we have our 1st rnd pick and bring in a coach who knows that playoffs aren’t the goal, teaching the team what they need to do to win is the goal. And give them free reign to do whatever it takes to teach them that.

Need to sit Matthews? Do it. Need to put Marner on the 4th line for a week? No problem.

Need to sit Nylander for the 1st period every game until he learns to put in more effort and pay attention? Go for it.

Use a full year as a teaching moment and if they miss the playoffs, so be it. Draft.

We are locked in for the foreseeable future to these guys, we need someone to mold them into playoff warriors

It is time this organization got serious about winning. They are the joke of the league.
I seem to recall back in (2015?) when Shanahan was hired, he stated that his goal was to bring "respectability" back to this franchise. It's been almost a decade, how is that working out? This team is an even bigger joke now than it was in 2015 because unlike those awful Burke-era squads, there is actually expectation from this roster.

I have never been more ashamed to call myself a fan of this team as I currently am. I haven't physically worn a jersey or any other leaf apparel in over 3 years and I won't be again any time soon. And this is coming from someone who willingly went out and spent $200 on a DION PHANEUF jersey at Real Sports back in 2012.

Like another fan who laughed when the Wings scored late last night, I did as well last night and the night before. All that money for 4 guys and we have a team than can't protect a 3 goal lead or beat a sad Red Wings team.

The mantra of this team has been reactive, not proactive

They didn't get ahead of the curve and fire Keefe when there were great choices, they didn't jump in and make a big core move when names were available and the NMCs weren't kicked in, they didn't begin restructuring the defense and instead waited for it to fall apart this season

A team like VGK fired their coach because they saw a better alternative. Florida made a core-changing move after putting up 122 points and winning a round for the first time in 20 years. Boston restructured their defense and brought in a guy like Lindholm when they knew they needed a longterm solution

Great teams go for it. Patience is a virtue until it leads to stagnation, and that's where we have been for a while now
We can thank Lou for his stupid "If you have time, use it."....Now the organization seems to think we have tons of time for everything and misses out.

It's not just that. The 4 guys, outside of Mitch getting one goal did f*** all. That's the part that always seems to get overlooked. Yes, the D is shit. And the goaltending is shit. That's because you've spent the entire cap on 4 guys and there is nothing left to pay for quality throughout your lineup. This team should be losing games, because their roster is poorly constructed, but they should be losing them 6-5. It's the fact that they often have trouble scoring goals that is the saddest part. That should be the one thing they do well. They also suck in 3-on-3, which should be another area where they're good.

This is the company they find themselves in, in the GF category. Lmao

O also chose Berube.

Keefe last night plays all 4 lines with no previous chemistry right after they call up a weak minded goalie trying to get his groove on.

That is not in the least bit a good move by the coach to all of a sudden mixmaster the lines and come up with lines that have never shown chemistry together. The result was an uphill climb and imo if he would have stuck to the "norm" we might not have thrown points away.

No matter the case,...Keefe has to go and the players themselves once again need to create effort levels each and every game.
