Why wouldn't they 'care about a cup'?
That's always made no sense to me.
A perfect example of a team that wants to win the cup is the Golden Knights. They do whatever they have to in order to give them the best chance. Doesn't matter who you are, how good you are, what you've done for them lately. If you fail, they don't hesitate to change. Our team has been stuck in the same crap for the last 25 years and continuesly keep everything the same. The first person who needs to go in Shanahan. From there, the next president should hire his own guy and so on and so forth. It's pretty evident Shanahan has been the one calling the shots from day 1 and if there's 1 single person to blame for this team's lack of success, it's him.

Yep, people confuse incompetence with indifference.
They want to win, they just haven't found the right formula.

Until this group of p***yes sorts themselves out nobody will succeed at coaching them.
they have zero will, zero urgency, zero fight, zero consistency and zero comraderie IMO

My sentiments exactly. It’s beyond pathetic that Vegas has won a cup in 6 years and we have only managed 1 round win in the last 8 all the while having 4 high dollars supposed stars that we simply cannot do without according to some here and apparently the Leafs brain trust.
Every single person in Leafs management should be fired by seasons end

Rikard Gronborg, coaching Tappara at the moment but he is modern and old at the same time. Players coach thats not afraid to show emotions.

would be more interesting to watch then now at least.

Hell no. He was not even able to win the Swiss league with ZSC.

That says nothing. Covid messed things up from the start. Dont know how close they were, but still its not like they win every year. And he did not get along with the GM. What i didnt like he should was his assistant coaches. He is leading the Finish league with Tappara. Would Keefe win the Swiss leuage with ZSC? I would not bet on it. Gronborgs mentality suits NHL better then the Swiss leuage. Educated in US. And he would let the players know when they need to be better. Maby the players in Swiss leuage didnt like that.

Leafs really can't make the necessary structural changes for another year and a half (i.e. when Tavares and Marner contracts are done). Coaching change now will not make much of a difference.

To dress himself up to setup a Matthews one-timer during PP?
Well, they've got other guys who can do that, But in practice, sure.

But really, IMO the list of guys available is okay, I guess, but try something new. Plus, there are loads of videos of Oates talking about skill development/coaching, and they're interesting. Also, being HOFer, FWIW, will hopefully give him the ability to push the star boys without feeling like he's a monster.

You're not wrong. but...I disagree mainly because...

The next couple years we can set a new feel of the bench, and see who we can rebuild around Nylander and Matthews. A Support group around those 2 and Reilly.

Goaltending, D, and support pieces will be much better once we have 11 M from JT and 11 M from Marner off the books.

Plus Matthews at 6'3 and Nylander at 6'1 both big guys, we can build a proper team.
Marner needs to go to a team like the Avs or Nashville, Isles... Where he can play QB to a bunch of huge guys and be protected.
He gets bullied on a team with a softer 34, and 88. Even Reilly.

It was evident seeing how physical Oilers top guys were VS Leafs top guys
Luckily we got Benoit and Gregor this off season.
How is 5'9 Domi tougher than Marner jesus

If only they could back a dump truck full of money up to McCrimmon's door.

But even if they had him, there would be people here crying when he made the moves that need to be made.
