If it's not Jack Campbell who should be the Leafs new #1 goalie?

Samsonov + Comrie - see who prevails?

Only want Murray if we get a first out of Ottawa - I would only do Kerfoot + 2nd/3rd for Murray 50% + Formenton + Top 5 Protected 1st

I didn't fault him for Amirov getting sick. I faulted him for not taking a RHD with size and good skating that we could have used.

The Kessel deal was seen as weak by leaf fans when it was made. I was on the boards and we weren't happy with the return mainly due to the extended 1.2M retention. That deal was him/hunter both similar to Marleau. He made the Marleau deal as a result of wanting to get the big fish and make a statement in JT. He went all in the moment he came on the job.

The Kessel trade to Toronto made sense at the time as well.

Leafs management saw us as good enough to be a fringe playoff team. We had drafted 7th overall before the Kessel year. We added some UFAs including beachuemin and komiserek with the intention these two help stabilize the D-core

Kessel was brought in to give 35 goals and lead the offense as our main offensive winger.

People call it a terrible move now with the 2nd and 9th picks going to Boston as a result
Speak for yourself, I thought it was a fine deal.

Does every thread have to turn into a "let's whine about Dubas" thread?

No idea but I assume he was. People here were talking about him so it was hardly some great unearthing. Credit for the deal though.
That's a fair take. I remember the talk being "is he for real?" "should a team take a flyer on him?" "was his short stent real or a one off"
Lots of questions and dubas was the one that pulled the trigger.

Please no to Murray - his rebound control isn't strong enough to make up for this team's defensive lapses. Murray is a clear downgrade from Campbell.

Samsonov is intriguing, but Im not familiar enough with him to say whether or not he's any better than Jack.

My other big fear with Murray is that it creates a bigger case of nepotism in the front office. I'm glad that Dubas is loyal, but at the same time that loyalty can't blind him from skipping over other, and likely more qualified, candidates.

I don’t have all the details on Samonsov but he’s 25 and wasn’t qualified by the Caps.
Take that for what it’s worth.

I think the Caps reasoning was he wanted 3-3.5 mil which they figured was too much for a backup. Not sure if that’s worth a chance instead. Not sure if he can be more.
