If it's not Jack Campbell who should be the Leafs new #1 goalie?

Not really sold on Gibson, especially for what he would cost is assets and cap. He has the 5th highest cap hit of all goaltenders and I certainly don't think of him as a top 5 goalie.

My preference at this stage would probably be to bring back Jack at a reasonable number and pair him with a decent 1B, maybe someone with some upside (Samsonov?) or a low-maintenance veteran (Reimer?). That's probably about $6-7 million on the pair.

Might kick the tires on what it would cost to snag Hellebuyck from Winnipeg, but I suspect it would be more than I'd want to pay.
I'm sort of there on Jack and a 1 year show me contract at 2.5m, if he already thinks he has showed them then Ville Husso is a guy that has showed he should be ready to wear the starters mantle.

Gibson at 6m is just way too much for a guy who has never really been dominant, never been the guy who's name comes to mind when you're listing the top 10 guys in the league.

Kuemper just had a ring put on it as they say and is going to want ring money, which might look like 7x7

Husso is young but did put in a solid 40 games with strong numbers and he's a mature 27 year old with lots of international play and again with mostly strong numbers. He's been plying high level hockey since he was 15 and so should be OK with the pressure cooker of Toronto

Husso and Kallgren might be too much of a high wire act for some, so maybe you have a hard look at Holtby for the #2 slot if so:

Husso 4x4
Holtby 3x2.75
Kallgren .750

I love Kyper, but if your hockey blog is better then I'll gladly put him to rest.

Do you have a link?
You didn't follow the running diatribe telling the sad neverendingstory of "The Jack Campbell Saga" told just this season past? 100s of thousands of neuron numbing packets of 1's and 0's adding up to a complete expose published right here on a daily basis concerning the weaknesses of Happy Jack and how he was playing the Leafs out of the playoffs. You would just have to look at any of the Jack Campbell threads or any game threads, games in which he might have started or........maybe not didnt seem to matter.

Compelling reading that shouldn't be missed:laugh:

I could see the Leafs re signing Campbell , it’s not like there’s much out there .

All the options have ? marks .
Unless it’s Demko vasi shesterkin Sorokin markstrom saros or Hellebyuck every goalie has significant question marks. Even then, Hellebyuck wasn’t good this year, markstrom sucked ass last year and demko
Sorokin & saros still have to prove it over another full season.

With the whispers linking the Leafs to Matt Murray, maybe there’s a plan to get him retained and pick up a few extra goodies. Ottawa’s got lots of those.
Probably not my first choice, but the term is okay. If the AAV is reasonable and the perks are worth it, I could see it.

Listening and reading the rumors/talking heads, Steve Dangle had an interesting thought. Two team were in on Ryan McDonough, Nashville and CLB. CLB defence core is bad, they are in desperate need of at least two defenders. Muzzin and McDonough play a similar game. CLB has a backlog of NHL goalies, with another highly rated prospect in the wings. Toronto needs a goalie. Toronto likes to trade with CLB. could there be a fit there?

From what I read Toronto seems to be really high on Kuemper and Husso. Vanecek is a wildcard goalie that has been talked about in some trade circles, he might be a target.

There could be a scenario where Toronto moves Muz's salary without taking on salary or moves Muz salary and takes on a starter. It looks pretty apparent that Toronto wants to retain Engvall, Kase and Sandin and wants to move Muz's and Kerfoot's Salary.

I guess it comes down to whether the rumours we were never really comfortable with Campbell in net are true, because we now have the means to get him. Given our options I’m torn.

Yes sire. We as going in with campbell and murray, is a real force duo. A strong one. They both winners, different type too. Murray is a stanley cup winner as we all knew. A real battler. Campbell is more of a funny goofy guy, who also likes to win and sometimes battle hard, like when he was injured and decided to play and continue injured stubbornly and then injured even worse and stayed out for like a month or more. It was fun.

The biggest issue with that is McDonough is better then Muzzin and was basically available for free.

I love Steve but he's pie in the sky sometimes

Yesterdays move was basically to get a goalie because the market is almost closed after MAF signed.

It'll cost 5/6 of the 10 mill then we probably can get Kase and Pierre for 2.5 total then still have to replace mik and sign a 7 D or sandin plus a 4 liner with the other 2.5.

The big issue with moving Muzzin is you need to replace him and if you move him for any value (I.e. starting goalie) it's not going to be straight up.

We'd then have to move assets or pay up for a dman when the entire world knows we need one.

His idea was for korpisalo who we would have to tandem with someone anyways

Admittedly I don’t know much about goalies and I don’t really have an eye for them, but I thought Woll played pretty well for the Leafs last season in limited games. Is he a viable option as a back up?
