If Canada wins on Sunday, do you think Carey Price deserves the MVP?

He's in a lose-lose situation unless he wins the Gold Medal.

I was thinking yesterday before the game: Price wins, it's because of the amazing team in front of him, but Price loses, the blame falls on his shoulders and he's been outdueled by Quick.
Welcome to the life of Roberto Luongo.

I think at the end of the day, the MVP will either go to Doughty or Karlsson, but the "any decent goaltender in the world can play just as well behind that defense" crowd is laughable.

Sens fans and Nucks fans have been the worst in terms of bashing Price so far. Leafs fans have actually been pretty complimentary of his play though.

Anyways, I just wanna see this team win the Gold Medal, everything else is secondary. I doubt any of these guys cares about the MVP anyways.

Has anyone bashed price?

Please. Finland had no business winning that game. Price played well but Rask was on another level. Let in the weak game winner but give me a break. One goalie has an elite team with no weaknesses, the other doesn't. Can't believe you're even making a case for Price over Rask.

Also, Price did not beat him. Canada beat Finland.

And what level was Rask on when he let in 4 goals on 20 shots to Austria?

Welcome to the life of Roberto Luongo.

Yep, even when he won last time people would talk about how they were 'nervous' every time he faced a shot on net. It's basically just one big case of confirmation bias . Even during the regular season it often turned into a case that he's only good because he played on a great Canucks team. I have no problem with Price earning the starter position in Socchi, but remember that last off season probably have of Canadian fans didn't even have Luongo on the team.

Carey Price has been great, but I don't think he' necessarily been better than a number of other goalies. It was the same thing with Luongo last time, when you're the goalie on the team that dominates possession every game, you don't get the same chance to shine that say Hiller gets on the Swiss. Price could be the MVP if he played for Switzerland or Finland, but not Canada.

And really our Dmen have been the MVP's, starting with Doughty and Weber.

No....he played good against the States but was a bit shaky before that. He didn't face much but his puck handling and just general nerves (controlling loose pucks etc.) was not sharp.

Basically, he's been pretty solid but not enough to tip the scale. The only hope he has of winning it is an incredible shutout performance in the Gold Medal game; where he might not even face enough tough shots for that to happen if Canada dominates possession/zone time again.

Right now, DD is in the clear lead with Weber just behind. DD's been absolutely game-breaking and wow does Weber have an accurate and lethal shot.

If Canada wins Gold...Doughty. He has been an absolute beast in both ends. If Canada loses...Karlsson is most likely.

Both of these statements are false.

This is what your comment means,

he was not the difference maker in the CAN/USA game.

the D has not been great, but let's not forget the number of chances the US has had because certain guys blew their coverage.

If price gets a shutout or only allows 1 goal in the Gold medal game than it should be him.
If a shutout That would be 1/ goals against in 3 games with 2 shutouts while facing
Sweden, USA and Finland combined, the 1st, 2nd and 4th seeds in the medal round.
That is MVP stats no matter how you cut it.
Sure was nice seeing Price proving all the haters wrong.

Bottom line is all i wanna see is Price with the gold around his neck.
It would be sweet justice to those that know nothing about goaltending calling Price the weak link.

IIRC most of the haters were against Subban. Subban's play was fine and IMO warranted a 2nd game but I really think Subban constantly calling for the puck that added to the odds of him not playing an other game.

Its true tho, sure Price was solid but he didn't need to be amazing due to the solid play of TC's D. Its a compliment on the D rather than a knock on Price.

I remember a lot of blame went to Price for allowing a breakaway goal against Latvia, but almost none went to Bouwmeester and Pietrangelo for allowing the guy for sneaking past them. Again, like I said, Price (and any Canadian goaltender for that matter) will get all the blame and none of the praise. It's just how it works sadly.

Nonetheless, I doubt any of Karlsson, Doughty, Weber, or Price could care less about the tournament MVP honours. They're gunning for Gold.

Agreed. Price has been very good, very solid against the US in particular. He has done everything he has needed to do, and deserves high praise for it. Just probably not the MVP award if they win, unless he really has to win the game for Canada.

he's used to it from playing in Montreal

I wish there was some word available to describe this ineffable quality of Toews, this ability to be important to his team without necessarily scoring goals, getting assists, or contributing in some statistically tangible way...

Patrick marleau has been terrific with toews and carter.

I don't think Price deserves it if the team wins. He's not the reason Canada made it this far, Canada's defense is... In my opinion at least.

That isn't to say he hasn't been good. It's just I think players like Doughty have been better.

He doesn't really deserve it, he's been very good and pretty much done everything you could have hoped for (those bashing him need to give their heads a shake) but there have been better/more important players for Canada.

Although when a team wins games 2-1 and 1-0 there's usually a strong goaltending bias when it comes to the awards so I definitely wouldn't say it's impossible he actually does win.

Unless Sweden has about 50 points shot on goal and he holds them to 2 goals or less and is the main reason Canada wins I would say no. Right now it has to be a D man for Canada if they win, or Karlsson, maybe Karlsson even if Canada wins. I am not sure if he will even win best goaltender of the tournament over Lundqvist, although if Canada wins he will probably be given it.

Could depend on the last game. If Price is lights out and makes 40 saves in a 1-0 win against Sweden, he certainly should be considered but for now I would give it to Doughty.

Amazing?, he has been good. The canadian defense is the reason they are in the gold right now.

Luongo would have done the same
