I'd give Keefe till the 20 game mark

That's on coaching

Also on the players though, the Tavares turnover last game was completely unforced and just a horrible play. If that was Holl or Kerfoot who made that turnover, these boards would be crashing. And then Nylander last night with like 3 unforced turnovers in OT on the same shift.

He has been the GM's coaching choice for 10 years with 3 different teams. I would conclude that's pretty "attached"

Keefe has brought success for the teams that Dubas coached. I didn't say there is no attachment. It is a successful working relationship - attachment.

I have issue with calling it an "emotional attachment" and the GM is afraid to make a change. That is silly.

62 more regular season games, 7 playoff games and we’ll finally get what we want and deserve… Hopefully a new GM and head coach that have experience.

  • Emotional attachment is the tendency to cling to people, beliefs, habits, possessions and circumstances, and the refusal to let go and try new things.
  • When you are emotionally attached, you are unable or unwilling to let go, make changes, or get out of your comfort zone and do new things.

May not be completely accurate, but it doesn't sound that far fetched or silly to me.

How many Soo connections are there in the organization are there again ?

Meh, we're 20 games in with a not so ideal goalie situation.

And yet, there we are 2nd in our division.

If it's true that you can usually tell who's gonna make it to the playoffs after the 20 game mark, well I think we should be pleased.

I guess the problems we're worried about is we should be even better.

Bruins 11 points up on us after 20 is nuts.

It better start with a new president at the top! Shanahan has been a disgrace of a leader. Under his direction, this team DOES NOT play hockey the way he did!

Shanahan and his family do not even live in Toronto. This speaks volumes to me. He's not committed to building a winning team here. He's just taking care of himself, and keeping his options open to re-joining the NHL front office.

When has Shanahan ever called out the NHL for the anti-Leafs bias we fans see regularly from the referees and NHL DOPS???

JMHO.

Keefe has been coach since 2019. 3 years and this is his fourth. I don't know if I would call that "an emotional attachment"

Jared Bednar on the other hand has been coach since 2016. He didn't win anything anything in five years. And despite "the emotional attachment" and the need being "afraid to make a change" the Avs won a cup in the following year.

 Strange how that works, no?

Kadri for barrie+kerfoot might have something to do with it ;)

and of course drafting a stud like Makar also helps!

and in all those years Sakic traded the 1st rounder just once for Keumper thats it.

Strange how that works too eh? ;)

I am hoping the old legs (Bergeron/Krejci) will cool down the stretch :crossfing

At the 20 game mark, 5 on 5 scoring is a huge problem. Team has also been very lackadaisical with the puck. Despite this he’s done enough to not be canned yet after a horrific start and a disastrous California road trip.

The 5v5 scoring also falls on Dubas by not getting help, but until then Keefe needs to maximize what offence he can wring out of the forward group as currently constructed. Maybe he should let his top left wing prospect who has scored at every level play more than a handful of games at a time.

He also needs to get it through the players thick skulls to stop needlessly giving the puck away. That’s especially true now that half our defence is so young and inexperienced.

He’s in for one hell of a challenge now with our three best and highest paid defensemen out with long term injuries. If we’re lucky our goaltending will get and stay healthy to minimize the impact of our broken defence.

Keefe isn't perfect but I'd say the crux of the Leafs problems this year has been on the shoulders of Dubas and his brutal offseason.

Maybe...

Some would say the crux of the problem is
Muzzin missing 16 games
Murray missing 14 games
Samsonov missing 8 games
Brodie missing 5 games
Matthews shooting %

WHen you lose 3-1 series lead to your bitter rival
Losing to a zamboni driver
Being 0-5 in closing games
Losing to columbus who couldn't score playing 5 games at ScotiaBank (your own rink)

And still not being fired... It's an emotional attachment
Considering there were so many good coaches available past 2 years

Gallant, Trotz, Cassidy..... You only kept Keefe around because Dubas is emotionally attached to his buddy. Only coach Dubas ever hired....
Yeah, what ever happened to due dilligence ie 'hiring the best coach available'....

AGREED 100%....he should be the 1st to go....

There are no excuses. If they play well the next month it will be a testament to the team's depth and character, and lack of same if they play poorly.

I'd be surprised If they play well without 44,78 and 8. Unless Dubas trades for a top 4 dman that can cover Rielly's minutes, Gio may be the next to fall.

I somewhat agree with your definition, but at this point it's a career survival move for Dubas. If Dubas fires Keefe then all the focus then goes to Kyle.

For better or for worse. We are stuck with Keefe/Dubas until April/May.

Well...an epic set-back could change things too...

Most likely.

But if this season ends in another 1st round loss (or worse) the focus is squarely on Kyle regardless.

IMO he has a better chance for survival if he moves off Keefe now.
