I'd give Keefe till the 20 game mark

Leafs never did that under Keefe. They just now have goaltending that matches the defensive excellence they've had for years.

Record @ Game 34
2022-23 ... 21 wins 7 losses 6 OTL = 48 points
vs
2021-22 ... 23 wins 8 losses 3 OTL = 49 points

Goals For :
2022-23 .. 111 GF in 34 games (15th overall) = 3.26 GF/g
vs.
2021-22 ... 315 GF in 82 games (2nd overall) = 3.84 GF/g

= - .581 GF per games played

Goals Against:

2022-23 .. 82 GA in 34 games (2nd overall) = 2.41 GA/g
vs
2021-22 .. 253 GA in 82 games (18th overall) = 3.08 GA/g

= - .675 GA GA per games played

With the teams record at this time essentially the same... Leafs went for #2 in GF & #18 in GA ---> #15 in GF & #2 in GA..

Their new system sacrifices OFFENSE for DEFENSE and goes from "Offense win Championships" to "Defense wins Championships" by sacrificing - .581 GF/g to gain - .675 GA/g.

By focusing on defense first and insulating the goaltending the Leafs are now playing a more Playoff style winning hockey during the regular season in hope it translate to playoff success.

The stats don't lie., Leafs have flipped the script without it impacting the Leafs team record, while attempting to find a better balance between offense and defense thru system.

Leafs were not #2 in GF and #18 in GA last year at this time.
For the record...
On December 25th last year, Leafs sat at 3.24 GF/60 and 3.31 xGF/60.
On December 25th this year, Leafs sit at 3.25 GF/60 - which is also 11th, not 15th - and 3.42 xGF/60.

We ended at #2 in GF because our rank rose as our sample increased, and the October scoring slump (that we experienced both years) got more and more drowned out by the offensive dominance we showed throughout the rest of the year. Just like last year and every other year, we'll end up as one of the best offensive teams in the league by the time the season is done.
We ended at #18 in GA because our rank dropped as Campbell nosedived off a cliff - something he has continued this year - and our goaltending couldn't stop a beachball despite defensive excellence in front of them.

There is no new system. We never played "pond hockey" and "tried to win games 6-5", like you incorrectly claim.
This is the same system we've had for years, that has had us as a top tier offensive and defensive team for years.
This is just what the system looks like when your goalie can make a save.

Why did you swap from the ytd numbers youve used in other threads to the full year sample here?

There is no place for excuses in sports(or life) but the fact remains that the Leafs have been just a hair short of being on a very impressive run. 3 out of the past 4 years the team they have lost to has gone to the Finals.

I am not saying if the Leafs had won their fate would have seen that much success, but they have been knocking on the door for awhile.

No doubt their new identity will translate to further success.
But when the Islanders lost in the division finals to the eventual Cup winners two years in a row, it only proved that they weren't a good team.

I think we're a better team than they were, but sometimes the conclusions made here are, shall we say, 'odd'?

Lol, what? Losing to Tampa was never the thing for anybody that "proved the Islanders weren't a good team". Where in the world did you get that?
In fact, it was pretty much the exact opposite. That kept them in higher regard than they deserved.
