wow, vally saying on the post game they need to make big moves this offseason and how you cant teach guys attitude of getting into the slot and dirty areas. And how basically its not the coach, its the core. Wow.
i mean I kinda agree. They're really talking about Zibanejad without saying his name. Truly, this team with JT Miller or Brock Boeser instead of Zib would be the kind of thing we need. But JT and Brock are not leaving Van. So, who else can be pried loose? Brady Tkachuk? I mean, whose even out there? And how the heck do you move Zib?

I'm not so sure about Lafreniere yet. I think so much of what he did this season was a by product of an all-world Panarin. That's not a bad thing because you need skill to do what he did regardless of linemates but does anyone really see him as an 80 point player without Panarin?

Kakko is just a sad thing.

He continued scoring in the playoffs pretty much independent of Panarin so yeah.

The only thing holding him back right now is PP1 time. Dude is a bigger Jake Guentzel and will probably bring more of an edge as he gets older.

Get excited people, dude is for real.

Don't count your Othmann Chickens before they hatch. Kid needs to sort out how to play all over the ice. He's a PP specialist right now in HFD. I am rooting for the kid, but I thought he has been slow to figure it out down there whereas you saw Cuylle get better and better as an all around player in his year in HFD. I don't see the same thing with Othmann. Berard I like. I really like. But his cieling is unclear. Perrault is a top 6 player, but he's another Panarin or Stepan type. We need a f*cking moose.
In my admittedly limited viewings of him, Othmann handles the puck like a f***ing grenade in traffic. Would love to be wrong but I see him busting.

Not a top 6 player.

Anyone saying Lafreniere is a product of Panarin is a) a Devils fan or b) hasn't watched these playoffs.

That said I don't think he's a game changing superstar yet and may never be one. I think he may always be an excellent player like a Pavel Buchnevich that produces very well but is just not someone you can build a cup winning team around. And this is why I'm just not sure a full blown rebuild is worth it. You have two top 2 picks and get a bum and a guy that might never be more than an elite complimentary player.

My take is that if they aren’t gonna blow it up, they simply MUST replace and upgrade Trouba, that’s mission 1 above all else. And then next they need to go big game hunting and try to pull off a swap for a big name 1C with Mika going in that deal or a separate deal and then exchanging parts.

And if not for a superstar then for a young up and coming player who profiles as tough to play against in the playoffs but still has skill (think Lundell), and then use the cap savings to improve elsewhere. Trocheck becomes 1C.

I don't know how you get him waive the NMC, but Trouba needs to go to Utah as their inaugural captain. The new owner will want to look like he's spending, and Trouba is a 'name'...
This is their current D corps

Brady Tkachuk doesn't qualify for this team esthetically. But maybe that's the thing. I could watch an esthetically ugly team that goes to the slot area

Brock is a ufa summer 2025 and we will be able to create enough cap space to sign both brock and draisaitl if they hit ufa.

Imagine this

Laff-draisaitl-perrault (laff would get 100+ points playing on this line + pp1)
Panarin-trocheck-brock
Cuylle-mika-berard
Othmann-rempe-edstrom

Kandre-Fox
Shea Theodore-Schneider
Zac jones-vet 6D

I doubt it. He didn’t light the AHL on fire.

Beginning to think he’s a third liner.
He's not a third liner cause he's completely unreliable defensively and away from the puck. If you put him and Wenneberg together you'd get a complete player. But it's like 85% Wenneberg and 15% Othmann...

I don’t think anyone wants to burn it all down and start over. They want some hockey trades made with this core getting ripped apart, ala what Florida did

Mika’s play this year and last has earned him a demotion to PP2 next season. Laviolette is crazy if he expects that one timer (which hasn’t been effective in 2 years) to be a top option on the PP. it just doesn’t feel dangerous when your go to looks are a pass on a tee for Zibanejad or a Kreider deflection. 2 things Florida pretty easily took away, and it neutered Panarin as a threat indirectly imo

Who can we move that is a problem? No one. Kakko doesn't move the meter.
Trouba needs to be out. If no one wants him have the balls to buy him out. You save 4 million next year and the following. Then 2 million for 2 more years with cap going up is not terrible. Schneider is better and should be in the top 4 period. I don't care who plays 3rd pairing RHD. You can find someone for 2 million.

Kid still didn't come close to peaking. His skating, zone entry, puck handling, shooting are there.

I'm calling it now. I was a Debbie Downer when it came to Kakko. Said he'd only get 15, he got 19.

Laffy is hitting 90 points next season. Money in the bank!
