The problem is, what do you do in the offseason prior when you have no cap space like we’ve had?

But that goes back to the issue of paying $8m for a defenseman who belongs in the AHL, $8m for a center who disappears and goes cold for half the season, 3.6m for a fourth line player who scores 12 points. Yeah, Goodrow was nice in the playoffs but he couldn’t save us.

Panarin for $11m didn’t deliver either. Can’t excuse him. But that 120 points in the regular season is hard to toss away. You might have to live with him not being the guy to deliver in the playoffs but the guy who gets you there. But you can’t have Mika and Trouba sucking all year for $16m like they did.

I don’t know what Drury can do other than stop trying to “win now” and instead start getting rid of anchors for futures. But I’m with you that I don’t think the path he’s chosen was right, because it led to this untenable situation.
Right now, I don't know.

The cap situation limits anybody who isn't already there from making that last step.

Supposedly, it's going up the year after.

Of all the players you want to move, the only ones with limited NTCs are Trouba, Kreider, and Goodrow.

Panarin and Mika aren’t going anywhere unless they voluntarily waive.

Lindgren and Gus are free agents.

Kakko is a restricted free agent.

Trouba just sucks.
I think Mika could be decent again but too many things going on outside of hockey. It is what it is.
Mika is too distracted. It's not as bad as Daigle, clearly, but it's the same kinda thing.

Wherever the keg is!
Do you remember the final game of that season?

The comments here were the same.

I don't think that this team worked any less hard than any other team in that situation. I just think some of the guys who they have here who they're relying on in key roles are either bad or just not capable of making things happen when the chips are down. It's not an effort thing.

That team was also dead tired by that last game. They had an excuse: they made it to the finals the season prior. And even during that series, we actually controlled play.

This series, we did...Game 2? Parts of Game 3?

Rupp said the system was changed in the playoffs which made everyone confused... makes you wonder.
I don’t really know X’s and O’s when it comes to hockey, wish I did, but why would they make drastic changes this far along.

Its been 30 next years.
I know. It sucks and it isn't good enough, but you have a 1 in 31 chance each year. Those aren't great odds. Then there are other factors, like injuries. It's hard to win. I take issue with a few guys on the team, but then there are others I like a lot so we will see how things change this summer.

That was rough. Florida is legit and probably will win the Cup. Our defense inability to handle the forecheck is more of an issue than the top players imo. I’ll also break from the narrative and say I don’t think the team needs to be broken up. I think they have some clear spots to upgrade and will.

New coaching staff, key players added, improvement from young guys. And where does it get us? Exactly where Gallant got us in 2022 with a worse team.

Everything went right this season. It’s hard to see it happening again. This team dropping 3 straight in the ECF is beyond disappointing.

Too many battles lost. Endurance was an issue. Outside of Fox, nobody could move the puck. This was just beyond frustrating to lose. Beyond. Even with Florida being better, we were up 2-1 in the series and in OT of game 4. And Mika gave it to them. The better team can lose the series and we could’ve done it. But this team blew it. And if this team blew it then what team isn’t going to blow it? Next season? When we have to go through the whole season and everyone around us is going to be better? I don’t have confidence that the front office is going to make the right moves to augment the core so it’s hard to be optimistic at all.

why not ask this coach why when he sees something not working well AT ALL does he do nothing about it?
