I thought the goal was legit. A strong game from the Flames but of course no superstar like Drai.
I thought that it was a good goal because the stick was below his shoulders on contact. Looked like it was definitely above the cross bar on impact and like every NHL rule it seems very open to interpretation when game management is on the line.

You must have missed the screenshot kindly posted by @Norman99 in the GDT. Crystal clear. No goal.

Ekholm thought that puck was going to hit him in the face and was bracing for impact when it was tipped. Watching live I thought it was deflected off of Ekholm’s face and into the net, that’s how high that puck was. Good thing we have video review now so we never get another play wrong again.;)

Didn't watch the game... How did Philp go 1/9 in the dot? He usually dominates.

Also random thought. With Pods wearing 92, do we have the most players to ever wear numbers 90-99? Technically I guess we have to wait for Kane to return. 90, 91, 92, 93 & 97.

I'm a type 1 diabetic, which caused me to get cataracts in both eyes. I had been near sighted since I was in middle school, but after having cataract surgery I'm now far sighted. Pretty weird, and nobody warned me that could/would happen prior to the operation.

Anywho, great to see Drai playing like he's on a mission again.

Team has been surprisingly decent since the horrendous start. If they can get a couple of saves, they should win almost every night.
According to my dad early cataracts runs in his family. It's been a rather noticeable decline in the last month, but I can't read things very close to me nor focus. But hopefully I'll be seeing a specialist soon.

Enjoyed the game. Pretty good effort by the Oil. I thought they stomped Calgary in the 1st, and then there was a predictable pushback by the Flames in the 2nd, and then in the 3rd it was pretty even. Thank God the power-play finally came through at a key moment to win the game. (Though the PK still blows.)

The one guy who still needs to remove his cranium from his posterior is Ryan Nugent-Hopkins. For two and a half periods, he was awful. Missed passes, lost battles, made turnovers on the PP (which he really needs to get off of, at least for a few games). But then there was that beauty pass to Hyman for the game winner... So, I guess that almost redeemed him in itself, but boy Nuge needs to get his game back.

Hyman was terrific, I thought. I was actually thinking to myself, "Well, he didn't get one tonight but I'm really liking his game anyway"... and then as I was thinking that, he scored.

Drai was unstoppable in the 1st period, by far the best player on the ice. Slowed down a bit after that, but 3 points is 3 points.

I'm getting more impressed by Podkolzin. And Emberson held his own.

S. Skinner was great. And J. Skinner's goal was sweeeeet....

The only bad thing to say was the SportsNet broadcast. Look, I've seen Hrudey and the other guy do plenty of Oilers' games before, and I didn't really have any issue. Honestly, I didn't get what many of y'all were complaining about.

But then came this game....

First of all, after Draisaitl completely bossed the 1st period, the Flames' crew said... nothing about it at all. They did praise Tyson Barrie, for some reason, saying he was great in the 1st (he wasn't).

At the end of the 1st -- after Edmonton dominated and led 2-0 -- the SportsNet crew decided to praise Calgary for one good shift to close out the period. At the start of the 2nd, they were still banging on about that shift.

They noted possible calls against Calgary that the refs didn't call. They didn't note any against Edmonton.

Hrudey claimed that Arvidsson "has been struggling so far" -- he hasn't.

After the Janmark clinching goal, Sportsnet showed three defensive plays in a row by Calgary, with Hrudey praising each one. (They then showed the Janmark goal once.) This in a game that was effectively over with 2.4 seconds left.

Finally, as a clincher, Hrudey had to announce the "Flames' player of the game" (he picked a plug). Like, seriously? I can't remember who the sponsor was, but obviously it's the Flames' broadcast advertiser who paid to have them do their thing on the national broadcast. But, why would SportNet even allow that??

That line is really clicking. Podkolzin is finding his stride and he’s a force on the forecheck.

Tough, hardworking kid with a lot of upside still. What a steal he was for a 4th
I knew all along o ur lines would start clicking.

Ok maybe I got down for a bit but regardless.

I guess we just like to start slow. We also always step up when McD is out too

The plays I am talking about was getting a stick on the flames when they split the D between he and Emberson, which I think should have been Ty's responsibility. Then when he cut off Coronato (I believe) after Coleman put a shot on a 2on1 looking for a rebound and the flames would have had a wide open net if not for Kulak. Both clutch defensive plays that highlighted his skating. Also, if you watch the replay on the Sharangovich goal, where Kulak got his minus, Kulak clears Mantha from out front only for Ty Emberson to push Mantha back in front of Skinner right as the shot is let go.

I don't think we would have won with Skinner letting in a bit of a stinker, a controversial goal against, AND one of our better Dmen being a "defensive disaster", so agree to disagree. If you wanna show me where he looked like one, I'm open though.
Had at least 3 or 4 giveaways and a few misplays where he was out of position. Kulak does use his exceptional skating to recover from gaffes but they were there. Wasn’t very solid imo but you’re right agree to disagree.

Spent most of night with Kulak, so I'm not surprised to see him start to look better.

Honestly I think the Oil might be looking for an upgrade at LD on the 3rd pair vs. another RD.

Ekholm-Bouchard
Nurse-Kulak
Dumoulin-Emberson

Gets them back to having a mamoth defence, but unlike last year the bottom 4 is increadibly mobile.

Nurse was with Kulak for 7:03 ES, 11:27 with Dermott.

Just need Nuge to pick it up, seen that compete level come up in the 3rd period for the first time of the year.

Mcdavid will be back for the leafs game

Leafs game seems "about right" is they were saying a 2-3 week return, as the Leafs game would be 19 days after the injury happened. The nice thing about winning a couple with McDavid gone though, is that there won't be as much pressure for McDavid to return.
