I'm not sure i'd do 8 years for Nylander, and you want to do 8 for Hyman.Leafs will do a deal where they pay him almost everything in first 3 years of deal like with everyone else with bonus .. and going 8 years gives them an advantage (1 year) over everyone else on AAV .. I am expecting a 4.5M AAV deal for 8 years largely paid upfront .. we will get 5 more years and then last 3 years will be a buyout .. he is 1st priority signing .. like it or not Zach is our only player who plays playoff hockey up front right now
That was just an example of 1 year overpayment to get him to stay long term. Like I said though if you can fill the other holes on the roster first, why not reward the guy for his play the last few seasons without screwing your cap long term.please say this is a joke, or that you dont mean for Hyman!!
...I'm not willing to pay Reilly $7-$7.5 and you want to give it to a grinder who has been blessed by playing with 2 guys that are infinitely more talented than him his career in Toronto be it any combo of Matthews/Marner/Tavares/Nylander
I would go as far as 3x10M.I'm not sure i'd do 8 years for Nylander, and you want to do 8 for Hyman.
I dont even offer him more than $3mil or i'd let him walk, and that on a 2-3 year deal.
Mason Marchment would be pretty versatile right about now.
I was so mad when he traded him for that Runt in Malgin. I was rationalizing it to myself saying the guy gets injured all the time and maybe he was just snake bit and it was never going to work out. Then..we see he is playing a solid game for FLA and our guy stops by in the spring from Europe to play for the marlies. He cultivated that kid...brought him along and then just gave up...makes me sick. I am sure the xGF is great for Malgin..or something.
I think the idea of cutting guys loose so they have a chance elsewhere has got to stop. You hoard them and you give them a fair shot. Why else are you developing these guys for 3-5 years just to let them go at under market value?
Though to be fair what was the market value for a 24 year old with just 4 NHL games under his belt?
Probably should have just kept him and provided a realistic path for career advancement for him.
when he is the guy dumping into the corner in the first place, whats he actually retrieving?
He regains the possessions that he gives away with regularity and wastes most of a shift that way, then we see Matthews skate off on another shift that he didnt get a touch.
We lost vs MTL because anytime Marner had the puck Matthews got double teamed, because Hyman really isnt a scoring threat, as he proved over and over, chance after chance, no matter how open he was. ...had we stacked that line, with Nylander instead of Hyman one of Matthews or Nylander would have been open and able to score on those chances.
they got 3 shifts together and looked dominant, but, then back to Hyman, and back into the corner goes the puck.
great post !when he is the guy dumping into the corner in the first place, whats he actually retrieving?

the problem is the idiots running the club are now in survival mode and that's when they'll do even more long term damage trying to keep their jobsIf they pay Hyman 5mil per year then there is no hope for this franchise as long as dubas is GM.
Defending Hyman was not popular back than lolHyman makes a ton of money here doing ads, whatnot. There is no escrow there, it’s straight cash in his wallet. That money evaporates the moment he goes elsewhere. I LOVE Hyman, when everyone was calling him a useless plug, Babcock’s son, a scourge on a top line, I defended him, heart and determination, with more skill than was given credit. That said, I’m done breaking the bank for guys who’s done nothing in the playoffs, accomplished sweet f*** all. If he wants 5 a year, you say thanks and move on. If he wants his money up front, you say sure thing Zack, but it means less AAV, unlike the other guys who got it all. Use your leverage Dubas, money up front is our advantage, or it should have been.
It’s not even drawing a line, look at how many bodies we need and what we have left, the flat cap, we might just have to say no this time. And I love the guy. Either that or you’re making drastic moves.
Hometown discount, you have your ad money here, you’re on a winner, sorry that’s the reality Zack, you’re call, love to have you back.
What does it even matter anymore?Leafs will do a deal where they pay him almost everything in first 3 years of deal like with everyone else with bonus .. and going 8 years gives them an advantage (1 year) over everyone else on AAV .. If it's down to Rielly or Hyman, I'll take neither.
Hyman was very good in the regular season but ineffective in the playoffs, so if he wants north of 3M, then thanks and so long. I'm not sure why he gets a pass for his (lack of) playoff production anyway.
Rielly was poor in the regular season but surprisingly dependable in the playoffs. His only memorable glaring error was having a controller disconnected moment against Suzuki in game... whichever that was. 4? 5? Whatever. Unfortunately, his game is all about skating and I don't think it'll age well. I'm not even convinced that he can get back to being a good PP1QB, even if Malhotra/Keefe are replaced.
this has Clarkson 2.0 written all over it
offer 10 over 3 and let him walk if wants more
This isn't about Morgan Rielly vs Zach Hyman... this should be solely about what it makes sense to pay Hyman on a team that has the big 4.
