Randall Cobb and Jordy Nelson are two damn good WRs. Other than that, I agree with most of what you write. However, they're still a 10-6 team solely because of Rodgers.

As a Packers fan, I even agree with you that the TE is overrated and the D needs some work. But the Packers' WR depth is arguably the best in the league. Cobb and Nelson are insanely good starters, and Jones as a WR3 is something most teams would dream about.

If the Packers win this year, it'll be because of their passing game. But yeah, agree that the run game, O-line, and defense are pretty below average.

I'm assuming you meant to respond to CI...but I'm right there with you. The comment about the WRs didn't make sense. I can't really comment on the D and running game, I'm assuming they'll be better than last year though.

All I'm saying is that the Patriots, Bengals, Texans, Redskins, Lions, Saints, Seahawks and 49ers (teams believed to be good this year) all have dominated thus far.

The Packers are -34 in points and only scored 2 TDs. I know preseason in meaningless but that's sad. I mean, hell, even the Raiders and Jets, two of the worst teams in the league have quite a bit better. I just don't think this team has any depth and is an Aaron Rodgers injury away from being the 2008 Lions or the 76-77 Buccaneers.

No doubt Rodgers is the key. But don't sell Vince Young short, he looked like he still had it in the game I watched.

By the way, I have to cheer for your Jaguars this year, I stole MJD in the 3rd round of one of my fantasy drafts.

Two logical conclusions from the information presented:

1) The Packers are going to be worse than the Raiders and Jets

2) The preseason does indeed mean virtually nothing

I'm not sure what point you're trying to prove. Aaron Rodgers is a good enough QB to win games on his own. The Packers are likely improved from last year, and they made the playoffs. It's not out of the question to project the same or even slightly more. I agree with your criticisms but these are the same problems they've had for several years, and they've been a very good team all of those years.

I don't think people are disagreeing with the fact that if the Packer's lose Rodgers, they will do poorly, it's your overall reasoning that is flawed.

You are arguing that if they lose Rodgers, they are in trouble. Agreed. But then you are pointing to the meaningless pre-season to predict how they will do in the regular season, but in the pre-season, Rodgers only played 5 series total...and that was without his top two receivers in Cobb and Nelson.

What the Packer's pre-season tells me is that if Rodgers is hurt, they are toast. If he is healthy, they have a chance, but unless something else changes, they are not up there with the elite of the league. I wouldn't at all be surprised if they lost their first two games against SF and Wash.

As to why they may be getting predictions of being a contender? Maybe because in the last 3 seasons they:

1) Won a superbowl
2) Went 15-1 and lost to the eventual SB champions in the playoffs
3) Won the NFC north and lost to the eventual SB runner up in the playoffs.

Anyhow, they are a team with a great QB and a lot of question marks. I honestly can't predict how they will go and won't be surprised either way.

I agree with you, I shouldn't even have mentioned the preseason tbh.

My point was if you took Tom Brady off the Pats, or Schaub off the Texans, or Wilson off the Seahawks, or Dalton off the Bengals, etc. All those teams would still probably win 9-11 games. If you take Rodgers off the Packers, they're in the running for Clowney.

I could have formulated my thoughts better for sure, but my initial rant was just that I don't get why every year, everyone hypes up the Packers, when (recent Super Bowl aside), they perennially under achieve.

Anyway, I got it all out of my system. Time to focus on more important things, like how the Tide are gonna smush VT tomorrow :D

Also, continuing from last year, I'll keep y'all apprised of my degenerate College Football gambling :)

Tomorrow I got:

Iowa > Northern Illinois (This game actually scares the s*** out of me and I shouldn't have bet on it )
Troy > UAB
Clemson > Georgia
Kentucky > Western Kentucky
LSU > TCU

And for my Super Duper, Crazy, Ultimate Off the Wall Pick:

Washington State > Auburn.

$20 bet pays out $1169.98 if all six are right.

Well....Vince Young was cut, so never mind about all that!

whelp, WVU looks like garbage on D this year so far, not a huge shock given last year but you'd think there's no way they could be as bad as last years with how young they were... guess again

WVU's punter is the real deal, can't make any comments about the rest of this ****show, though Sims at least looks like he could be damn good as well.

Aaaaannnnnnndddddd I'm a lobster.
Yeah, the one thing I HATE about early season college football games. Happened to me on Thursday too. It was ridiculously sunny, hot and humid before the game which made tailgating pretty much unbearable, and having seats facing the sun didn't help. Plz hurry, Fall.

I don't know if I could find shade in the student section. I was in the south end zone on the LA Tech side, basically lined up with that corner of the endzone. The only thing I'm glad about was that I wasn't looking into the sun.

And I feel so bad for Mitchell. He was playing really well in those few snaps that he got. It's gotta be so devastating to work so hard to win the starting job and then suffer an injury that early. It's a good thing Doeren waited so long to announce the starter because that gave Pete the ability to prepare like he would be the starter.

Oh, there was no shade in that endzone. I was in the top row of section 7 in the shade.

EDIT: Despite it being a pretty boring game with no real effect on anything to it, how did you like it?

Yeah, that's a tough blow. The first two drives we moved the ball with ease, and once Thomas came in we definitely took a step backwards. Although it's encouraging to see how well we can run the ball, that's definitely a strength, and even more so when Thornton gets back.

I liked it. I guess Copeland and Underwood are injured. Our WR depth will be fantastic when they come back. Was very pleased with what I saw from Dayes and Valdes. D-line is really good which is what I expected.

I stayed the whole game so it kind of dragged on at the end with everyone leaving. Most of the energy was lost at the halftime. That was a little disappointing but understandable considering the weather.
