Just saying

But the Blackwood stuff could really come back to burn us

The fact that he got today's start, when there was a back to back coming up, I give up on trying to figure out when he will or won't play.

I mean, maybe they didn't want him coming in after sitting for 12 days? I try to make sense of it, but it just doesn't look like they're gonna allow Vitek to be the undisputed number one.

And that's WRONG until he shows otherwise. He was going through a bit of a slump, but he only allowed 2 each to Boston and Pittsburgh.

I don't see why Blackwood should start more than say Schmid when he was up? Schmid averaged about one start a week I guess and he was also up for a stretch where we really didn't have a whole lot of back to backs. I think we went almost all of November without a back to back until the last week? He finally played I think 2 of 3 in his last 2 starts here before being sent back. His final start against Florida was clearly a send off game.

Outside of your golden SV%, there's absolutely nothing to back this statement up.

He looked wonderful in his frantic scrambly no- rebound-control play, but he was legit garbage. What Blackwood did tonight (bad puck handle, lose in the shootout) was Cory's MO for like twenty games so idk wtf you are talking about and neither do you.

It's just a case of bias. One player you like, one you hate.

What the hell… Cory got Vezina votes for his heroic work on a garbage team.

A GM made a dumb trade when he should have faced facts and started getting younger talent for a team.

Then this team not only pissed away several year of elite goaltending, it made us better when the end results of that only ended up hurting our draft position.

Oh, as a cherry on top, the team played Schneider a ton because we often didn’t have a functional back-up because we were in cap hell (while sucking). We broke Cory while riding him into the ground for nothing.

Let me know when Blackwood starts 58-68 games in multiple seasons in a row. He hasn’t remotely come close to being as good as Schneider was, who was legitimately an elite starter for a couple of seasons.

Cory went 17-6-4 and then didn’t win a regular season game in 2018. It was injuries. Good to know you give, no demand, sympathies and context to Blackwood but give zero of it to Schneider or Bernier. One guy gets a thousand excuses, the rest not so much.

Detroit is not a good team, not sure why people are fooled. Chiarot plays 21 minutes a night there, on top of many other anchors.

But they actually allow Husso to be THE guy there. Although it looks like he's been injured for a couple games now.

In fact, Nedeljkovic, who's basically their Blackwood for the last year is in such poor standing there currently that he's been sitting while a 31 year old, that's been property of THREE different teams this year on the waiver wire, and just got his 5th and 6th career starts in the NHL, has gotten the two starts that Husso has been out for.

Blackwood had a poor AHL career before he ever got covid and hurt his foot

His two good NHL seasons are sandwiched in between poor 50+ and 60+ game stretches of .890%-ish in both the AHL and then the NHL.

His last prolonged period of good play was just about three years ago, before the first covid shutdown happened. And he was starting to cool off even before that once the calendar struck March, where he allowed 11 goals in his last 3 games before the abrupt shutdown and end to everyone on the team's 2019-2020 season.

I wish they would just treat him as the backup. Unless Vanecek really starts blowing up. I feel like Lavi made this mistake last year with Samsonov getting a bunch of starts after Vanecek cooled off. Only Samsonov wasn't even hot, but racked up a lot of wins when the team was scoring a lot of goals. He actually played even worse down the stretch than he did before that, if I'm not mistaken.

I just wish they would treat him as the backup. Not saying like the Corey Schwab, Terreri 2.0 or Scott Clemmensen backup, but definitely the Johan Hedberg backup. Vanecek is signed for next year at $3,4 million, as well as the year after that.

Wasn’t able to watch. But I would say getting a point is acceptable. That’s the key, not coming away empty handed. Although sneaking out with two would have been a pleasant surprise.
EXACTLY.

I'm all for "Moral victories" so long as we get something (a point) out of that "Moral victory".

Time to drop it

Today he gave us a decent performance as much as you can expect from a backup. However today wasn't the situation you needed to play your backup.

Honestly, Vitek has pulled so many cowboy moves handling the puck this year, but I don't think any have caused an actual goal against.

One kind of did in the last game against Carolina, but Graves I think had full possession of it and a chance to get it out, but it never got out and caused another big fire drill in our end and netmouth scramble. After an initial one after Vitek gave it away, before Graves somehow got it.

Definitely

It was a beyond bizarro start for sure.

Because first of all, next two games are back to backs and he was gonna play one of them anyway.

Second of all, this team has the longest streak going in the NHL and they don't score a whole hell of a lot this year, but they're still a really good team.

If it was like Chicago or San Jose or even Philly or Montreal, someone like that, Columbus, Arizona, I could see him getting the random start.

Like how Todd McLellan gave Jonathan Quick the start against the Flyers yesterday in a random non-back to back contest. If there's team that are safe to start your backup against then Philly is definitely one of them, but Quick still f***ed it up for them.

You go best on best when you're playing a team in your division and trying to break out of a month long funk and if not for the gifts from Raanta Claus we get nothing today!

Need more than moral victories over Detroit and St.Louis too "meh" teams for the taking.

Raanta was due to get blown up after two straight shutouts, one of which came against Chicago and I think every team that's played them at least once has shut them out this year. Well, not quite. The Sharks certainly aren't right now lol, but they did turn 2-0 into 4-2 pretty quickly.

Every time I see what Raanta looks like under the mask, I feel like I don't look so bad. I swear this guy is the oldest looking player in the league, especially after Thornton has been done. Thornton looked close to 30 when he was 18. Raanta almost looks like he could have played with Brodeur and Richter.

Well, he probably has played against Brodeur, but I think you know what I mean.

I'm interested to see what Carolina does with Raanta or Andersen once Andersen comes back from injury. I doubt Kochetkov is sent back.

Andersen may never come back from injury or at least not this year.

Guy seems like he can get a urethra injury just from standing in a urinal and taking a leak.

I imagine Palat will be back Wednesday

and hopefully Marino soon after. Hell, I didnt think we'd see Graves for awhile so I was quite happy to see him back today

Bahl was atrocious today. Time to send him back IMO.
Go Canada Go!

Looking ahead to next week, next Saturday’s game against the Rangers is critical. They are on our heels and after that game they only play them once more. It is easy to make up points on teams with games in hand and head to head matchups remaining. Without those not so much. Getting wins midweek and winning that game to rebuild a cushion would be big. A bad week that includes losing that game sets up a white knuckle second half.

My lack of Bahlief has unfortunately been borne out.

If he’s gonna have games like that, we got other defenseman kicking around, let them have some run instead until we’re back to full strength. Rotate em through idc.

One player earned the benefit of the doubt by being an elite goalie for a reasonable length of time. One was sort of average for a bit.

It’s not bias to look at results and view players different based on factual past performance.

Because those other goalies were even worse than him? And what’s that really mean anyway? The team in front of those other guys also scored more goals than when Cory was in net. I’m gonna go out in a limb and say you would dismiss that as randomness.

No, they didn't. That was a thing that held for one season here.

I’m mot saying Cory was the worst goalie in the league. I just don’t believe for one second he played like a top five goalie just because of his stats. I watched nearly every second of that dude’s career with us. I can’t think of many moments when he came through big on his own.

Lol because he was stuck on a garbage team that it's impossible to remember. It's doubly insulting to him.

Yeah that's the main thing that's annoying about this game. Losing a skills competition in a vaccum to Carolina isn't annoying, but they really have to start putting the wood to people at home again. Unless you think they're gonna win 80% of their games on the road all year and can survive 50-50 (or worse) at home.

Really need to be winning our next two home games.

Blues are a big helping of meh and we can't be dropping games to the Rags right now

Bummer, bc I thought they all played a really good game.

I think we are going to have to get used to Bratt being invisible until he explodes.

Outside of Bahls pinch and Graves going down early, thought the D played a pretty heroic game. Forwards were pretty good too.

Sucks we lost but this one really is a character builder.
Yep.

But when he explodes, man...he explodes.

I want him to go on a long scoring streak now.
