I also remain unconvinced that Pionk remains a top 4 option on the right when players like Lundkvist and Keane get here, let alone if the trades of Hayes and Zuccarello bring back an RHD prospect.

Truth be told, I really don't think he will be (or should be).

I think Pionk is a kid who could potentially be an option on a third pairing someday, and he's here now and we'll take it from there.

You know, I don't always agree with Quinn, but I do admit that I like him.

I think there's a thought process and rationale for what he does, and I think he truly is working to find the right combinations to unlock some of his more enigmatic talents.

It might not always work, and it might not always be how I would approach things, but I also think he's the type of coach that successful players cite as a contributing factor when they get further into their careers.

Maybe it’s still the Honeymoon Period but I think he is a great fit. I’m calling him GQ DQ by the way. If anyone cares.

We also overestimate our prospects. I'll be happy to see either of those guys make the NHL. Anything more is a bonus.

Hank had a strong game, which might get lost by having 3 of our players score 2 goals each. I thought Zucc was actually one of our better players, or maybe our best player tonight, his passing was back to an elite level, and the way he hustled and battled for the puck really stood out this game. Good to see that line gelling, and Kreider was all over the rink, beating players to the puck.

Tony was good on defense and jumped into the play a lot. I thought Staal played a solid game as well. (I'm still putting most of the blame on Howden after seeing that video angle of him giving Staal a security, cross-pass, option). Skjei got a little better as the game went on. Sam said he had a strong game, but he was terrible for the first half.

Also a few things:

1. Mika is near a PPG pace.

2. Zucc seems to be performing better and upping his trade value hopefully.

3. ADA is now 1 goal behind the team lead for D-Man goals. He has one less point then Shatty and Skjei, which would also place him second in points for D. Imagine if he was given the opportunity Pionk had.
Who’s gives a shit if he’s 1 goal or 1 pt behind the “team lead for defense”?!?!

This team blows and one win doesn’t change that. Saying he’s 1 anything back of the team lead is like saying he’s going to come up just shy of wins this year for the Cleveland Browns.

Wow! We are all really impressed

I'm not sure who whizzed in your cornflakes but for a kid that was a fairly significant piece of the Stepan trade, it is important to see his progress. Especially, when you consider he has played less than 30 games this year.

Lets hope Zucc continue to produce. It will raise his trade value. And maybe his next team will reward him with a good contract if he continue to show som good value for that team to.

It looks very much like he needs to play with Kreider and Zib. However, you could say that with pretty much anyone on the team not named Kreider and Zib.

It just shows that there is not much secondary depth/scoring right now. Howden provided some early on. Vesey did too but is now more sporadic. Chytil had his little goal-per-game streak.

Need more than just three or four guys going per given time.

Buchnevich is odd. Have any of you ever seen this kid look like he's even remotely happy at all? He's just always got this look on his face like he's a ten year old you told was going to do something awesome, but the plans fell through. I am not sold on him becoming much. I don't think the combination to unlock his potential is something he possesses.

It's the ennui cloud over him, but @Crease thinks he's a product of national socialism that had integrated into every aspect of his life to become his ethos.

Kreider stirs the offensive drink. I think we have proven that with Zib, Hayes, Zucc... everyone that plays with him goes on an offensive tear.

This might sting a little, but I think Tony's parents are higher on him than you both combined.

So according to this.......Staal had a really good game cf/ca is 21/13? I still dont quite understand. And i really should. There was a time NO ONE would be better than i was, with baseball stats. Just never took to hockey in similar fashion.
I guess i got old and lazy, and relegated rto saying "I use my eyes" telling me who did well and who didnt.

P'm probably not alone in thinking that the future core will not have both ADA and Pionk. The team desperately needs top-pair minute eaters at both LD and RD regardless which side will have a "true" 1D. Let's assume that this true 1D is LD and size partner is Stralman type.

Then specific roles for 2RD and 3RD become very important. ADA offensive skills and sense stands out - it could develop to be good enough for top4 or at worse it's probably already good enough to be a PP specialist and otherwise reliable to get 3rd pair minutes. Pionk doesn't have that level of offense (even though coaching staff and FO think he does based on the force-fed amount of PP time he got). He's also not physical enough or good enough defensively in the own zone. I just don't think there will be a fit for Pionk though this decision is at least a year away.

Thought it was a great game by the boys.

Zibanejad continues to show why I’d like him here over the longer haul.

We can debate whether he’s the guy we want centering a first line, or a potentially top shelf second line center, but the reality is that he’s more or less maintained a 70 point pace throughout the year.

Should that continue, it would make him the first Ranger to reach the mark since Gaborik in 2012, and the first center to do so since Gomez in 2008.
Honestly, we "should" take into consideration that scoring is UP throughout the league. Nice if he gets 70+, but would be interesting to see what other players spike up to 70 along with him. Occasionally he has these magical 4 pt. nights, then produces 0 for 2-4 games. I would think we need consistent 1 pt nights, sprinkled in with many 2 pt games.
He has had 3......3 game scoreless spurts. 2 of which surrounded a 4pt night vs Nashville. So, 4 pts in that 7 game stretch doesnt look so bad......but overall, is that really good?
Here.....look for yourselves. Love Mika, just would like more consistency from him......if indeed he is our 1C moving forward.

Thats really insightful @Edge in itself. In other words in 10 years Howden and Chytil (and many more) will answer ......yeah, coach Quinn was a little rough on me, but guided me into what I have become today. Or, something like that.

Fair enough.

We'll see what he does tomorrow (and for the remainder of season) IF he gets into the lineup.
