I agree. It does seem that younger defensemen have a tough time with possession, and I really hope it’s not just a Rangers thing. But anyways, like I said before, Lindgren did do a couple things that makes me think there’s something there, specifically his skating and making a couple nice passes.

As with Shattenkirk, it looks like he struggles with possession away from Claesson.
So far, that would be accurate.

But if we found something in Claesson, that wouldn't be a bad thing.

Rubbed me the wrong way, but fair enough.

I just worry about some of that stuff and it’s too easy to do online these days.

Whether it’s AV or DeAngelo or others, I think we can criticize their play, or approach, or a bunch of other aspects, but as a board we’ve been increasingly trying to make it more personal and that’s a very slippery slope.

That is just disturbing.

Happens all the time.

This board is arguably one of the smartest sections of the forum. But if it has one big flaw, it’s that it tends to be very reactionary and (increasingly) black and white.

As a result, it can be difficult to balance the euphoria and over-stating that happens when things go well, with the the despair and slash and burn approach when it doesn’t.

Not going to lie, even when I was a reporter and editor on the site, it could be exhausting. Some days, the reactions are more exhausting than the actual games and players.

I don’t want to say you ever get used to it, so much as you just tend to roll your eyes and move on.

Trade deadline, draft day and July 1...it doesn’t get more reactionary around here than those days.

anyways, thats it for the night for me. good chatting with you all, sorry for ranting your ears off. maybe shorter posts next game ... probably not lol
Na, you had some insightful opinions. I liked most of it, but I wish I had more time to respond to the few things I didn’t agree on. Oh well, at least we agree on the important stuff.

Pionk's play has never really inspired me, even when he was on his streak. His game just seems flawed to me. And he is undersized. I think he can be a good third pair. He's a workhorse, no doubt about it. He eats minutes. But he's overmatched against the opposition's skilled players

I’ve never been a fan. I think him playing 25 mins a night is a lot of why we suck in our end. And he gets a free pass from the coaches no matter what he does. I don’t get it.

My personal favorite is when a player actually performs their role well, and so then their ceiling starts increasing.

And suddenly you find yourself in an argument about a player you like, and who you think is doing well, because you apparently don’t like them enough.

So now you find yourself in a position where you’re almost criticizing a player you initially were trying to be supportive of.

It’s a shame that many people are turning on Pionk after a couple bad games. This is the opposite of what happened a few weeks ago. Pionk was playing well, and DeAngelo was struggling. And people turned on ADA.

Absolutely, The idea that out of all the RD the Rangers have tried over the years it has to come down to one of Pionk or ADA is insane. The idea that one needs to be turned on to promote the other is equally as asinine.

Rangers have two youngish RD who show some level of promise, that has happened exactly never at least since I've been a fan.

Why those two can not both be seen as possible RD for the up coming couple seasons while this whole thing shakes itself out, I have no idea.

Nice to see some votes for Zucc when he deserves it.

And these talks with Quinn and others really helped. I believe he's ready for a possible departure now, still going to be emotional but not a shock. As he said, he's a professional, and he must play like one. Understands the business part, it's not because they think he's a bad player.

The Oilers is one of several interesting destinations for him, I'd really like to see him as McDavid's winger.

I’ve been saying this for the longest time. Why not both? I like DeAngelo a bit more, but I still consider Pionk a valuable piece to this team. It amazes me how we’ve gone from zero promising RD with no skill to 3 promising RD with offensive prowess in such a short time. Most organizations probably wish they had this so-called “problem.” I love it, and I welcome it. But now people want to tear one down to bring the other one up. Both sides are doing it, and I am not a fan. Besides, shouldn’t Shattenkirk be the odd man out if need be? He’s older, slower, more expensive, and less skilled. Maybe if he was shipped out, then people would be more relaxed about this.

I think some level of idealism is being applied to a roster that has no chance at being ideal in the immediate future. Having all 3 RD be undersized and not solid in their own zone, and all vying for PP time is not ideal.

But for now, in my opinion, why should that matter? Break with tradition and play talent, see what transpires. Then need be make moves if it becomes an issue once they are closer to a complete roster.

All in all out of all of them I think ADA has the best chance to be the more complete player, likely never as good as 22 on the PP was or is, maybe not the rusher Pionk could maybe be, but overall net game effect, I think he has more balance between all the zones.

Yet in the mean time none of that matters, just play all three and let it figure itself out.

OMFG! Nailed it!

Also, the more the narrative needle pushes, it reaches a point of absolutely being incorrect, so I've found it easier to analyze the team from the 1-X method better than agreeing with most of the posts made.

So at some point, if the absurd narrative is the team can make the playoffs, I go "thank god. they are going to tank".

But if the sky is falling starts, I say "o f*** we are going to hit a hot streak and make it".

Went to the game, DeAngelo should be playing every game until he is inconsistent. He pushes the play up the rink so often and that’s what the Rangers need - especially from their abysmal blue line.
How I wish I went. The Hurricanes are my 2nd team, but of course I still wanted the Rangers to beat them.

The only reason the numbskulls keep bitching about Pionk is because there is a belief that choice of one has to do with the other. This f***ing projecting shit is nauseating.

Do you mean if I’m pro ADA I don’t have to be anti-Pionk????

Lol jk they both should play..

Also as a more general note don’t take any love or hate of ADA as a argument about Pionk and The other way around.
