Yea lol

And I just checked it out. Shattenkirk with a rare horrendous possession game. Staal with an amazing possession game. Interesting stuff.
I give him a pass on that one. No offense to Lindgren, it's rough out there for a 20 year old D, and Shattenkirk was tasked with breaking him in.

Defensemen, especially u21 defensemen, generally struggle in the possession game at first. That's why people are wetting themselves over Dahlin. His metrics are amazing at 18.

Lindgren looked a step behind the NHL game right now, which is fine, but he didn't do anything to make me nauseous.

As for Staal, he's been mostly passable this year. I still roll my eyes, but I don't wanna scoop them out of my head. That's a hell of an upgrade for Staal.

Put Zucc on a team like Calgary and he is between a .8-.9 point per game player. I love to see him traded to the west coast especially Calgary (if there is a trade to be made there). Would real hard for him/flames in the playoffs (or maybe not if its a first round pick coming back our way lol)
yep, me too if/when he is traded :thumbu:

I've personally think Staal is having a decent season. If he keeps it up I'm fine with him on the 3rd pair for the next season.
honestly, if we miss on panarin and this thing isnt really turning around next season, double down and use him in the matchup role. he has a solid reach and hes strong so where he lacks in skating he can sometimes male up for in that. just keeo skjei off of the top pair and let him develop. i guess its more about that and staal seems like the best option for that role

Man, Lindgren's gonna look like Stepan in a few years

Happens all the time.

This board is arguably one of the smartest sections of the forum. But if it has one big flaw, it’s that it tends to be very reactionary and (increasingly) black and white.

As a result, it can be difficult to balance the euphoria and over-stating that happens when things go well, with the the despair and slash and burn approach when it doesn’t.

Not going to lie, even when I was a reporter and editor on the site, it could be exhausting. Some days, the reactions are more exhausting than the actual games and players.

I don’t want to say you ever get used to it, so much as you just tend to roll your eyes and move on.
Exactly. Recency bias is a very real thing on here. And it’s my biggest pet peeve. And I’ll admit that maybe even I get caught up in the hype sometimes, because it feels good to share similar opinions and have the same optimism. But you’re right about this board being smart.

Pionk's play has never really inspired me, even when he was on his streak. His game just seems flawed to me. And he is undersized. I think he can be a good third pair. He's a workhorse, no doubt about it. He eats minutes. But he's overmatched against the opposition's skilled players

Yep, like I said yesterday, I can't judge Quinn as a coach so far given the roster and the circumstance of the team, but from the outside, I find him to be a likable guy.
AV was a likeable guy

I agree. It does seem that younger defensemen have a tough time with possession, and I really hope it’s not just a Rangers thing. But anyways, like I said before, Lindgren did do a couple things that made me think there’s something there, specifically his skating and making a couple nice passes. Some mistakes for sure, but overall solid.

As with Shattenkirk, it looks like he struggles with possession away from Claesson.

AV was fake likable guy.

See, now I don’t think that’s fair.

Almost everyone whose worked with the man both likes and respects him and considers him a gentleman.

The guys coaching decisions and management style might drive you guano loco, but I don’t think anyone has ever thought of AV as fake or two-faced.

Rubbed me the wrong way, but fair enough.
