love this man
Not sure I would call this series easier. We struggled a ton with their forecheck, pinning us deep in our end shift after shift. I think the better team won, but I don't think it's fair to say this was any easier than Rd 1.
Honestly, who could have seen Carolina being the much easier series than Pittsburgh? Same amount of games but I felt like I went through a heavyweight fight after that series, this series was tough but much less so.
My comments about Carolina and their stringent system echo what Hank said in the post game. They're very predictable so they turned out to be easier to defend than Pittsburgh. The Canes pattern in the o-zone looks the same almost every time.Honestly, who could have seen Carolina being the much easier series than Pittsburgh? Not sure that absent Brind'amour the home Canes are the real version of the team.Honestly, RBA is to blame for the Canes.
System, conditioning, and all that. Your PP can't evaporate the way it did in the playoffs, and there is 0...ZERO excuse for your team to play like All-Stars at home and like shitstains on the road.
Granted, Rangers had a God awful Game 5, but Rangers outplayed the Canes for 2 periods in Game 1, and Game 2 was closely contested where a Rangers brainfart did them in.
We had a mini melt down in games 3 and 4. No Lindgren. No Goodrow. WeHonestly, who could have seen Carolina being the much easier series than Pittsburgh? Same amount of games but I felt like I went through a heavyweight fight after that series, this series was tough but much less so.
Their PP was all about ADAs weak floater. That's not the go to option. They need shooters.Honestly, RBA is to blame for the Canes.

Yeah, I agree, not having to oppose the refs this round was a a relief. Pitt obviously was the more dangerous, skilled team, but the Canes forecheck was wearing us out this entire series, even tonight. This was a series of attrition & it might catch up with us in the ECFs, but I won't underestimate the heart of this team again.I think the team played better in this round and they didn't have to deal with ref shenanigans. Rangers got hosed pretty hard TWICE by the league in that series (G1 disallowed goal, G7 non high stick on goal 2 for Pitt.)
The only thing that really, really pissed me off officiating wise was the clear as all f*** boarding that was missed in tonight's game. Did Carolina get a way with a shit ton of interference? Sure, but they always let that shit slide. It was at least consistent and not the endless parade of lifelines handed out to their opponents when they were in need that we saw against the Penguins.
He also said I know what I'd do in the flight home after that game... he must have been drinking lolDid Vally actually get away with saying the Rangers have "church bells that clank" on air??

Chytil reminds me of Kovalev in the '94 playoffs right now. dangerous every time he's on the ice.
The greatest player in the history of the game had a meh shot, was slim, non physical, pretty weak, slow... And had a hockey IQ on a level thats incomprehensible to us mere mortals.Remember in the regular season when we literally couldn't do anything at all against Carolina? No time, no space, couldn't even do anything on the PP, they just completely outclassed us each time we played them in the regular season. Pretty crazy.
Btw, the fact that Adam Fox is as good as he is at hockey is nuts. He has the frame and physicality of just some random college kid. He's not a fast skater, he's under sized, he's weaker than most of his opponents, his passes and shots are frequently extremely weak. His physical shortcomings should be enough, as usually it is, to keep him out of the league. And despite this, not only is he good but he's literally one of the top 5 or 6 players in the whole league. He shoots the puck as hard as any random 14 year old but it doesn't matter because he's so smart he just waits until the goalie can't see and lobs it in. Same thing with his passing. None of his physical stature even matters at all because he's just so smart in all aspects of the game.
