I'm relieved we didnt land Chychrun. Sure he's a great player, but I have no desire to take on a guy who's injured all the time. I'm curious what the plan is to replace Hronek.
You should want us to ditch Bertuzzi then

Is bashing Bert some new sport or something?
Go look how many times MacKinnon, Rantanen and Makar have been hurt in the past 5 years.
Somehow Avs don't female dog about getting rid of them.
It's a contact sport with an object flying at 100 MPH.
Injuries happen.

Not new. We’ve been doing it for at least a season and a half.

Yes, I hope we trade him. I'd be open to bringing him back in the offseason, but only if its a very team friendly contract which I know wont happen. So yes, I want to move on from him.

Nobody is bashing Bertuzzi, he's a good player. With that said, some players are injury prone and I and many dont want to sign those players to long term contracts unless they are elite like all the players you listed. If Bertuzzi wanted to sign for 2 years at 8mil, I'd do it in a heartbeat. Wont happen though as Im sure he wants term.

So Hronek goes and plays two of the worst games he has ever played in Ottawa, giving up dudes alone on goaltenders all over the place, then gets hurt.

Such odd timing for a team like Vancouver to pay a heavy price to get him. That org cracks me up.

Absolutely love the strategy here, as I’m also betting the NYI 1st becomes a lottery pick (and mid round at worst). That 2nd is basically a low end 1st if it’s Vancouver’s. Another couple kicks at the can. No need for Hronek when Ed and Wallinder are already capable of filling those skates at baseline.

Expected one of Bert, Vrana, Zadina to catch a flight first but this also makes a ton of sense.
The NYI pick is top-12 protected.

The 2nd is indeed Vancouver’s.

General consensus from us Canucks fans is that Detroit did very well in this transaction.

Does Detroit have an internal cap? How much of this was Yzerman clearing salary for Larkin?

My guess is that Stevie was never completely sure about Hronek. That's why he gave him a rather short term on the current contract, and that's why he is moving him now. And if it wasn't in his plans to give him another extension (where Hronek would've probably demanded more money, too), of course he moves him this year (for such a great return!) rather than having to move him at next year's deadline.

On the current roster situation, just call up Ed and move Chia to RHD. The guy isn't good anyway, so what does it matter on which side he is?
Not only that but half of Chia's issues is he runs to the right side anyway.

Detroit's cap is whatever the cap is. It's more likely clearing room for whoever we want to add to play with Larkin because we very obviously need to go big game hunting up front.

tbf general consensus from you guys is basically always anti-FO (which I totally get)

It's very surprising that he was traded to Vancouver, but the value it pretty correct for a 25 year old RD top 20 D in points.

Hronek is pretty mobile, he certainly isn't a slug defenseman, but he's not a guy you expect to see flying into the zone with the puck, he is a passer from the blue line type of point accumulator and as was said he can stretch the ice with a good first pass.

Honestly think this was just Yzerman selling high on Hronek, get a few picks and to make room for Edvinsson next year.

Why does getting rid of Hronek extend the rebuild? He was never a core piece. On a good team he is a #4/5 that leans offensively instead. As soon as 93 year old Maatta was off his pair his numbers sunk. And he was never very good defensively and was easily pushed around. The Ottawa games showed that.

Losing Hronek hurts this year. It only hurts next year if the idea is Lindstrom as #2RD. There are a few free agent options that we can gun for.
He has looked like a good top 4 guy for 90% of the year for us, get off it.

People overreact to these 2 Ottawa games so f***ing bad.

I mean, great return but I really don't get this unless it's just a case of selling high. Not like he was about to hit UFA. Is this a precursor to something else? Edvinsson coming up?

2 of Lindstrom, Hagg and Oerstele in the lineup at the same time is far from ideal.

A few people claim Chris Ilitch is cheaper than his father was but I've never really seen it. Historically this team has no internal cap and deep pockets.
