I think this was a good trade for both teams, I think there is value in trading for Hronek, especially being only 25 and an RFA. I also can see why Yzerman moved him, they want to make room for next years crowded blue line and they can do it now from a position of strength. I would also not be surprised if this portends a larger move

Can't say I love this, unless this is just a first domino in another move which I'm guessing it is.

Are you f***ing kidding me? 10 years ago I bought a Lidstrom jersey. This year, I told myself I needed a jersey of a current player. So I bought a jersey of my favorite player on the team this past Christmas.
I got my wife a Davante Adams jersey for Christmas, he got traded before the draft.

Just like when we got rid of Mantha I have no sad feelings with Hronek leaving. Swear dude could never hit the net. Sure he was having a good year, but he just always seemed to irritate me more with his play more than anything.

There's very little depth on the right side in the org. without Hronek. You have to think they're going to add an RD.

chyea that's why I'm not advocating for it, not a great contract. but he's a big dude who wont get bullied like we have been the past two games
Yeah, I think trading for guys on 8-year contracts based on 2 games is probably a great idea! Ole!

Not an overwhelmingly joyous return, but hardly a bad one either. Long had the impression that Stevie wants either big and mobile or steady D-men, and you only get to be an offensive d-man if you are a potential superstar. I guess also with our best left D prospects all being better if they have licence to rove and Chiarot being a loose cannon, Steve wants something less exciting but more defensively dependable on RD.

I suspect the depth of the first round this year meant that any possible 1st round pick is worth a little more than normal. It also suggests that Now Larkin is tied up, he's happy to be a seller for any non-core pieces. There's enough in FA this summer to suggest middle line players are all expendable at present unless they offer upside well beyond their current level.

Hope he's got another Wallman-esque throw in lined up when selling off another piece or the right side will be painful to watch going forward.

Hronk's value isn't going to get any better than it is right now. He's terrible defensively. I think this is great.

My guess is that Stevie was never completely sure about Hronek. That's why he gave him a rather short term on the current contract, and that's why he is moving him now. And if it wasn't in his plans to give him another extension (where Hronek would've probably demanded more money, too), of course he moves him this year (for such a great return!) rather than having to move him at next year's deadline.

On the current roster situation, just call up Ed and move Chia to RHD. The guy isn't good anyway, so what does it matter on which side he is?
