Axios has compiled a timeline for the coronavirus in China based on their analysis of reporting from various news organizations.

Key dates are December 27, January 2, and January 15.

Dec. 27: Wuhan health officials are told that a new coronavirus is causing the illness.

Jan. 2: Chinese researchers map the new coronavirus' complete genetic information. This information is not made public until Jan. 9.

Jan. 15: The patient who becomes the first confirmed U.S. case leaves Wuhan and arrives in the U.S., carrying the coronavirus.

Timeline: The early days of China's coronavirus outbreak and cover-up

That one is good. My favorite so far is the Seattle music cancellation one.

"Seattle just banned all live music performances for 30 days!"

This cancels over 1246 gigs, affecting 320 working musicians with a total income loss of almost $426.55

427 deaths in Italy today. So deaths for the last 5 days are 427, 475, 345, 349, 368. Obvious upward trend, but not completely out of control.

Death rate in Italy is about 8.3% of reported cases.

In US, it continues to drop. About 1.4% of reported cases.

The FDA is now allowing Remdesivir, an anti-viral, to be used on COVID-19 patients. There is a Japanese anti-flu drug, Favipiravir, that is also showing success. I think these are more effective in less severe cases.

That's a more interesting read than I thought it would be and I'm not doctor at all but I wondered a lot if we were just missing something so easy it blows the mind, like the War of the Worlds twist

hopefully trials show great results. Successful treatments are a huge first step, since the vaccine is likely far, far off.

The great thing about the French study is the drugs involved have been around for a long time, already have approved uses and are already in production.

LA may be administering a shelter in place order sometime tonight. I was given a heads up at work since we'd be exempt from the order. So if you were wondering if you should go shopping today or tomorrow, I'd say do it tonight if you can. Likely limited hours during a shelter in place.

It's scary how many basic drugs we no longer make in America. We allowed ourselves to become completely dependent on the Chinese for our medicines. For example, I had no idea there is no manufacturing of something as basic as penicillin. The last manufacturing plant for penicillin closed in 2004.

Manufacturing of our medicines must be moved back to the United States. This is one of the first things which should be corrected as a result of this situation.

Energy has just been too cheap to care. It's the strength and weakness of affordable energy. Plus since WW2, and certainly since the early 90's, trade has been the thing that was supposed to bind everyone together. But again, that also folds into the cheap energy.

If this hadn't happened, the drug manufacturing would still be an invisible process. That's the point. Never seeing how the sausage gets made and all that. Same thing with kids making the clothes you wear. That's background noise stuff. You don't think of it when you're normally going to the store to buy a shirt you need.

And the Mayor just announced several minutes ago. Lockdown starting midnight tonight.

Anyone want to recommend a good show on Netflix or Amazon prime?

What was new that made going out today ok in LA, versus tomorrow being on lockdown?

Watching the news and they put up a map of places where malaria occurs, and people are treated with Chloroquine vs places where there is little to no use of Chloroquine, because malaria is not a threat.

In areas where Chloroquine is used to treat malaria, there is little to no reports of the coronavirus infecting people. In areas where there is no malaria, hence no use of Chloroquine, there are numerous cases of COVID-19.

Correlation does not always equal a cause, but this needs to be investigated. One might also think if Chloroquine has relatively mild side effects if taken, it might be a case of "no harm, no foul" if it is given to people who have tested positive for COVID-19.

Places that still have malaria problems are also the places not likely to administer tests for this.
