It's normal to doubt a young player, Matts Sundin was considered a wuss/chump in his first few years. Everyone doubted Lidstrom's ability to lead his team to the cup.

Contrary to the hot take posters on this forum, Mitch actually has an extremely hard working off season, the drills and work he puts in is second to none. Its fair to question the results, but for people to question his integrity or desire to win is IMO childish and inappropriate.

Have a little faith, this guy will be the hero in the playoffs, Just 3 series ago , I remember everyone lauding Marner because of his two block shots to end the game vs Boston to seal the win. The guy has heart, skill and the drive to win.

Asking for a friend, was that before he signed for $10.893 AAV and was given millions up front, or after ?

He has all da heart, desire and drive in da world .. I have seen this as one of Mitch's coaches as a kid .. no one tries harder and gives more of himself than Mitch and that will never change .. and he is a happy go lucky kid who loves hockey more than anyone .. Mitch can turn in a phone booth with very best, Mitch can pass and see plays better then da very best, Mitch always comes back hard as he can and helps on defensive side .. all these tings he already does .. and he works out like crazy and he is very athletic too I might add .. but please do not compare to Sundin or Lidstrom as both those guys were BIG STRONG and FAST .. and they were always BIG STRONG and FAST .. this has always been Mitch's problem from time he was 4 onwards .. when teams play championship games in best on best tournaments where all these 97's played against each other in top end games Mitch could not compete .. bottom line is guys are just flat out faster in straight away speed then Mitch with longer strides .. bottom line is speed kills in big time games .. Matty took his breakfast lunch and dinner in many a game, and I have seen other Matty T do it to him too in other games, Stumpy has taken him to woodshed in many a game too .. he has a very very long history already of this same issue that you guys are seeing now for 1st time in NHL pro playoff hockey .. I always hope for da best for everyone - just my way .. but as I told Paul many a time for Mitch to succeed in best on best requires him to fundamentally change his stride and lengthen it so he can beat people flat out .. til that occurs and he dumps his family skate guy and moves over to barb I have zero hope in this occurring

You'll never see a more talented leafs Core 4 in your lifetimes.

It's not all about talent. It's about dependability, consistency, and being able to improve. If you work hard and you're coachable, and you understand what you need to do, you can improve. Bill Belichick

Talent is nothing without dedication and discipline, and dedication and discipline is a talent in itself. Luke Campbell

At the end of the day, you can have all the talent in the world. But if you don't put in the work, nothing works. The engine doesn't start going. It's a car without gas. Ryan Garcia

- contract negotiations a public shit-show demanding Matthews money and threats of offer sheets - Can't fault a player for having a good agent
-looked defiant in end of season presser and had a tone - Speculation
-he played like he didn't want to get hit against the Habs - Not true
-he comes off as immature and not willing to put in the work to develop a better shot, becomes a little bit more physical etc - Not true
-given his contract demands not hard to believe he's demanded to play a certain way on the PP or wear the A - speculation
Sounds like a butthurt fan to me.

It's unfortunate that Marner seems to have become the new whipping boy. This kid is one of the best players in the league and fans want to run him out of town.

The worst part is if we won the cup next year a lot of the people on here who believe they could run the organization better will be the ones licking their sacks.

A "butthurt fan". awww cuz Mitch is getting criticized
He's an $11 million dollar forward. Excuse me for expecting more. He's a regular season performer and has been a bust in the playoffs and on the PP. Oh but he did block a few shots 3 years ago.....
Marner apologists are unreal! NOONE is saying he doesn't have talent, but he's paid to be top 5-ish in the league and he's nowhere near that

It's that 2021 mob mentality, it starts with a slow rumble and then it becomes a competition of who can say the most vile and childish things? Who can be the most extreme with their reaction? Its like a competition to prove they are more hurt. I've read somethings on this forum posted about Marner that I wouldn't say about my worst enemy.

If we win the cup next year, those very same people will come here to self ingratiate about how they knew he was a keeper all along.

Not sure why people always have to have a bad guy in every painful event in their life... he was the top scoring winger in the league last season and because of 7 games )insert ignorant comment here)

TBH when children take temper tantrums, they get sent to their rooms, when adults do it, TBH I'm lost as how to react... like what do you do with an adult when they act like a 3 years old?

Put me on ignore then Mr High and Mighty
In your own words you see the game at a higher level then the rest of us children anyway

Actually here's one:

Dude he was reading the angle of the skater and took a route to box him out, the skater obviously played possum and let Marner think he was going high. Not a good example of him not blocking a shot... or doing anything wrong besides not reading the play correctly, happens to everyone.

LOL of course. I guess you just see it a a higher level.
I'll move on

Oh and here after another f***-up

Nope... I don't need a safe space like some of the posters here... I'm comfortable acting like and adult. ;)

I don't think me expecting adults to act like adults is setting a high bar or a mighty bar... perhaps it is. Perhaps we can all be Peter Pan and never grow up. Fun.

After three years in a row of sub par performance, I don't see how it's possible for any rational person to be confident of this.

That's the sad part - we all know these guys are talented but the team in the playoffs at clutch time is consistently less than the sum of it's parts. If the talent doesn't translate into results, what good is it?
i dont see how any rational person could think he wont figure it out. he has all the talent in the world. sometimes it just takes time.

He's the 7th highest paid player and the 4 highest scorer and highest scoring winger. He's absolutely begin paid fair market value.

Looked to me like he was expecting the puck to be wrapped harder around the boards. Couldn't tell who made that play, did he fan on it?

An 11 million dollar player has to figure it how to play in the playoffs. Wow
Needs to figure out a shot too, and how to score on the PP maybe more than zero times a year

What I think happened is he lost track of where the puck was and was cheating trying to anticipate where the attacker was going by reading his route and get his body between attacker and puck.

Maybe Marner already got it. He’s a passer right? Not a goal scorer. He passed the puck to the best of his playoff ability.
Maybe the team construction is flawed.

As soon as he see's Bogosian(think thats who it was) move the puck, his eyes turn towards the blueline as that's where you would expect a hard wrapped puck to end up.
To me that play is more on Bogosian than Marner, it certainly isn't an example of him avoiding contact.
