How much faith do you have in the Core 4 (Matthews, Nylander, Tavares, Marner)?

An 11 million dollar player has to figure it how to play in the playoffs. Wow
Needs to figure out a shot too, and how to score on the PP maybe more than zero times a year

... and to think all those Marner haters are doing the lords work for free.... :) The truth shall set you free!!!!!

Oh and Conner McDavid says Hi!

As soon as he see's Bogosian(think thats who it was) move the puck, his eyes turn towards the blueline as that's where you would expect a hard wrapped puck to end up.
To me that play is more on Bogosian than Marner, it certainly isn't an example of him avoiding contact.

Makes sense.

Yeah he's terrible

Awesome so stats are your only measure? Winning playoff rounds is no longer a measuring stick? Since the goal (no pun intended) in the playoffs is to win the cup, can we agree which ever player has made it further in the last 3 years the better player? 3 years because the Willie Wonka Whiners are telling us that Marthas Vineyard Mitch has lost his will to compete since he got his new deal 3 years ago.

Which one wins that contest...? GO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yeah ummm no, this is a team game
But pointing at McDavid for having no playoff success - he still produces despite a shitty team
Anyway, again, enough. It's lunacy arguing with someone who who sees things at a higher level

The fact you recognize this is touching but this is not about you, not about me ... Playoff success is scoring points or winning the cup? So Connor retires in 20 years, and say he never makes it past the 1st round. Do you think he will be remembered for playoff success?

Of that I have no doubt. He's too good not to.

If he's that good, why has he sucked the last three years in a row? Why does his production plummet the minute the playoffs start? Others in his draft year (drafted later) have played much better for much less pay and without a generational goal scorer to convert their passes, what's holding Marner back?

i dont see how any rational person could think he wont figure it out. he has all the talent in the world. sometimes it just takes time.

What does figuring it out mean to you? One good year in the playoffs? Or do you expect him to produce in the playoffs every year going forward as you would expect from one of the highest paid players in the league. Are you predicting that three years of suckage are about to be followed by a lifetime of success?

Seems pretty naive to me.

Not with a core anywhere near this young.

Young is a BS excuse when you're getting paid more than a ton players who are older and have had much more playoff success. Not to mention some younger players who have also performed better in the playoffs for far less pay.

Will they be old enough next season to take responsibility or are you just going to shift the goalposts ad infinitum? Never mind, we all know the answer to the one, you are the king of apologists.

0 faith. If the core stays together, I don't see winning a round next year either. It's not like the competition is going to be easier than this year.

The only faith it's possible to have now is blind faith and I'm just not that naive. Blessed are those who believe without seeing I guess.

You'll never see a more talented leafs Core 4 in your lifetimes.

Not with a core anywhere near this young.

Ever notice how the word "talented" is used to describe people who haven't actually achieved anything yet?

We lose every year but look at how young and talented we are, isn't that awesome. Well, not that young anymore but talented, hoo boy!

It seems you that you don't care whether we win or lose, as long as were "young and talented". Whatever turns you on I guess.

A "butthurt fan". awww cuz Mitch is getting criticized
He's an $11 million dollar forward. Excuse me for expecting more. He's a regular season performer and has been a bust in the playoffs and on the PP. Oh but he did block a few shots 3 years ago.....
Marner apologists are unreal! NOONE is saying he doesn't have talent, but he's paid to be top 5-ish in the league and he's nowhere near that
In his last 3 years he is 8th in the league in points and 10th in the league in points per game. I'd say that's pretty near top 5-ish. Maybe your expectations are too high?

Is expecting him to play up to his contract in the playoffs expecting too much?

We get it, his regular season numbers look good, nobody is disputing that. When you look at the playoffs however, there has been a massive decline from the regular season for 3 years in a row.

Is a bunch of regular season points really adequate compensation for years of playoff failures?

When the games matter (ie playoffs) Magic Mitch disappears. perhaps your expectations aren't high enough for a player at that salary and the TOI he gets.

To some apparently - or "he'll get it" eventually
He has more penalties for delay of game in the last 3 years than goals

The core is rotten.

Matthews is not invested like others in his peer group to be in top physical condition. It catches up to him in the playoffs when the games get more challenging physically. My own belief is he's happy to excel in the regular season, collect his check and go back to his home for the summer where he can do the things he's really passionate about.

Marner plays like he is afraid of his own shadow. Playing like that will never translate to playoff success.

Nylander is the best of the core four in terms of actually upping his game in the playoffs.

Tavares is only getting older. His best days are far behind him. I think injuries will continue to plague him and he will become less and less of a factor.

As I said last off season, MULTIPLE pieces of this core need to go. Once they are gone and the management group has been replaced with veterans then the Leafs can be great again.
