I never once said he literally cried. I did say he literally looked as though he was about to cry.

Posting from a phone so no videos, but feel free to check out him flipping out after getting thrown out of that Sens playoff game and after Anisimov's rifle celebration and watch him freak out and throw things like a child.

Since you don't remember those very memorable incidents, apparently.

I'm sure those will just be chalked up to "emotion," or "passion," but they were expressed in the manner of a spoiled child who didn't get his way. If you want to deny that, feel free, because I obviously won't change your mind and you sure as hell won't change mine.

You are awful snarky for someone whose "examples" are just wrong. I remember both of those moments well, and neither of them were about Dubinsky "not getting his way." Both of them were directly due to him standing up for his teammates. AA was getting targeted after that celebration--Dubinsky said no. Boyle was getting assaulted--Dubinsky (and, half a second later, a dozen other players) jumped in the put a stop to it.

Yeah, he threw a water cooler. Do you think it could have POSSIBLY been because the refs threw him out of a playoff game (on a ******** call) that had just started and was part of a tight series? No, I am sure you are right and he was just upset at not getting his way.

Every example you give for Dubinsky being a "spoiled child" illustrates the very mindset that is missing from so many players on the current team. I'll take a roster full of "spoiled children" like Dubinsky over a roster full of "professionals" (ie- apathetic and not willing to do the dirty work needed to win) like Nash.

I was thinking this exact thing as I was reading this. I've seen Chelios, Roy, Ron Francis, Dustin Brown, Backes, Scott Stevens, and Adam Graves all trash a bench, trash can, cooler, sticks, etc. For a lot less than getting removed from games, never mind a playoff game against your rival. Bunch of spoiled children. The league needs more Captain Drury's for sure :/

I didnt say he was worthless. I said he sucked. He obviously had worth.

And yeah, those stats things are so meaningless. I would think they were meaningless too if my argument was a House of Cards and I had zero factual evidence to back anything up.

It's like your defense of Lundqvist. You think people hate him because they mention he's not in the top-20 in GAA or SVPCT.

You use this BS argument centered on how it's the offenses fault that he gives up 2 goals every 1st period and puts rebounds into the slot.

I know it's hard for Millennials to be told they're wrong. It's that whole Last Winner thing.

You have no idea whats going on. If you watch hockey, you will know that Dubinsky is a guy you WANT on your team which is why alot of teams were asking for him. Hank has been bad but if you watch hockey, you will see that the team is bad too. You know nothing about hockey

Another guy who has no clue. Dubinsky showed more emotion than anybody and this team misses that. He freaked out and threw things like a child? Good, the team needs more of that. The team needs to show some damn emotion, youre just sensitive.

Like others, I remember those incidents. Like others, I thought that's what the team needs in its players. Unlike you, I never thought that throwing that cooler was childlike or was literally (or figuratively) like crying.

Sounds like you may have an issue interpreting the difference between passion and petulance. And this isn't a denial, it's just an explanation that you've misinterpreted the actions you saw. That's all.

Some of my favorite examples of Dubinsky's fragile emotions were along these lines:

Man, I believe the team misses this kind of thing. Washington was coming on strong, this fight happens, we end up scoring another three goals. We win 7-0. Dubinsky with the Gordie Howe hat-trick.

Obviously a guy who gets pissed off is childish :shakehead

In fairness, I think it used to be an issue early in his career (I think Torts even said something to that effect). The Crosby war was a prime example. The game where Dubi called out Crosby in the between periods interview, that was all about him. Yeah, Crosby slashed him and then hid behind the refs. And yeah, Crosby was being a little whiny *****. But how did engaging with him on that level help the team? It didn't. If anything, it takes Dubinsky out of his own game.

To me, the key difference is which direction the passion is directed. Early career Dubi directed that passion into personal feuds (Richards, Crosby). It was about him. His last few years here, he directed that passion towards sticking up for his teammates (the examples posted by Sweet Gerald). The latter kind of passion really solidifies a team and is necessary for a team to be a contender. The former can become a distraction, and derail a good team (not that it ever got that far with young Dubi, but see Avery at his worst for an example of where that kind of self-centered play can go).

That's some revisionist history on the Crosby incident. Here's the video as a refresher.

So he's asked directly about the incident. The incident happened at the end of the period, this very shortly after it just happened. And guess, what? It happened right like Dubi says. He was just standing there when Crosby decided to take a little whack at him and run away. Remember, this was when Crosby was young too and he very much earned the reputation that he's a ***** back then. Again, watch it. Dubi just said what anyone with functional eyes could see happened.

This is a great post.

"I'm finally admitting that Henrik is bad despite blindly defending him for two months and blaming 50-foot goals on the offense."

You're a treasure to this board. Please, stay gold Pony Boy.

It's not revisionist at all. You essentially just repeated what I said about the events involved. My point was that you want players who will laugh that kind of nonsense off when it happens to them. Crosby slashes you and hides? Make sure he knows about it the next time you can line him up for a check. Calling him names in an interview (regardless of whether or not the names were accurate--which I agree that they were) does nothing. Long story short--as a former coach, I would be fine with a player who got a little rough sticking up for a teammate. If I had a player who got hot-headed whenever people poked him a bit? To me that's a liability. People know that all they have to do to get that player off the ice is poke at him a few times.

Dubi himself seemed to learn that, as the Crosby incident was really the last time I remember him doing something like that. He became an incredibly useful player and we never should have moved him.

I never said Hank has been perfect right? I said Hank has been bas but its overblown because the team is bad too and that doesnt help at all. Keep it up, you have no clue about hockey

We won 52 games with a team with Dubinsky on it.

A Classic fail move by a franchise and it's fans that will never understand what builds a culture of winning.

It's sad as hell how predictable this was.

So many of you begged for this....now choke on it.

So true. Traded or let go members of core in favor of underachieving players who played for an underachieving organization. Makes perfect sense if you are a Rangers follower.

Steve Kerr and Robert Horry must be two of the greatest champions in all of sports then if it is that simple.
You cannot conflate records of teams to point totals of players. Team-wise, you are what your record says you are.
And the other seasons?
More success than any other coach in recent memory.
