Don't be so sure, what Matthews did was incredibly special and rare. Ovechkin only did it once, and he's arguably the greatest goal scorer of all time (I still think Lemieux was better).First of many

He could have a fully healthy season and put up 70, too. This season is likely his peak but he could have a slight regression and still hit 60 in another season.
That's the crazy thing, 60+ goals in 74 games.Nice! Glad the injuries didn't keep him from it
Eh perhaps, but he's only 24. Could very well have better seasons in his mid to late 20s.This season is likely his peak but he could have a slight regression and still hit 60 in another season.

Nevertheless, exciting time for Leafs fans.
Stamkos score 60 in 82, Matthews did it in 73.Stamkos’ and Ovechkin’s 60 goal seasons are more impressive considering the era they played in, but still very impressive and takes nothing away from him.

It is a higher scoring year then when Ovi did it, but only 14 goals per team (on average). Ovi also played 82 games, to Matthews 73.
It would be nice if one thread for a massive milestone didn't have people trying to take things away or talk about what's more impressive. Sometimes it's ok to say congrats and leave it at that.
I would say so. The sky is the limit.First of many
Not to burst everyone's bubble, but Matthews has 4 empty net goals this season, thus needs 4 more actual goals to actually reach 60 this season, sorry folks.

This season doesn't count because scoring is up
Not if they lose first round and shake things up amongst the forwards. If Marner isn’t on his line he doesn’t sniff 60 again.Scoring is up now and his pace for the past 3 seasons is over 60 goals. I say he does it again.
Depends on the goals. Did he shoot on an empty net? Did his shot bounce off an opposing player? Did a shot bounce off him? Did it ricochet of the boards into the net? All of these things matter when assigning value to a goal. And if you take away all his goals, he actually needs 60 more goals!

you know it. CheersI think the world is a better place when Matthews scores and 34 is back to his positive self
The NHL assigned him 60 goals, nuff said.Depends on the goals. Did he shoot on an empty net? Did his shot bounce off an opposing player? Did a shot bounce off him? Did it ricochet of the boards into the net? All of these things matter when assigning value to a goal.
