How many 60 goal seasons will Auston Matthews put up in his career?

1 maybe 2. I know Leafs fans are expecting him to have a bunch but let's face it, it is not something that happens often. I believe the only guys to reach 60 and still playing are Stamkos (once) and Ovechkin (once) so don't expect him to get to 60+ every year.

Agree with your premise, but scoring is also significantly higher right now than it was when Ovi/Stamkos were doing that. If it goes up anymore (or even just holds steady) I think 60 is within reach for a few current players and certainly a healthy Matthews.

Matthews still didn`t pass 60 goal mark, That`s definetely curse from OP

I understand the OP created a potential jinx when he made his original post before Matthews hit 60.

But ... havent you and others just created a new more powerful reverse jinx by prematurely declaring the original post was a jinx when Matthews still has 2 games left?

So Maroon wouldn't have won if he played in Matthews' shitty culture? Well then that still makes Cups a terrible way to evaluate player performance.
I don’t know. I just know that until you win something in the postseason — a star player is not really a star player yet. There are plenty of top echelon players that have not got it done — and each of those players have an asterisk next to their name. Neely and Thornton come immediately to mind. Fair? Maybe not, but it is the case non the less.

Mathews is a terrific player — but he has not been able to get a playoff win, let alone a Cup. That is an issue given how much talent they’ve had to work with. You can argue that if you want, but that is a metric that he needs to attain at the very least (one playoff win, I mean). So far, it’s all for naught. Unless individual and regular season accomplishments float your boat. And if that’s the case, then again — back to my point. Therein lies the problem — at least for now.

Is that not fair?

You'll know the Hockey Gods have it in for Toronto if 34's pursuit of 60 goals winds up costing the team his services in the postseason.

Huh? He took 3 games off injured specifically because it didn’t make sense to strain a minor injury before the playoffs. If he desperately wanted 60 he probably would have played at least 1 of those, and potentially all three in a bit of a limited role.
