It’s pretty f***ing disgusting that Campbell is going on the record saying that this conduct is unacceptable, when it’s a GUARANTEE that the refs are instructed by Campbell to “manage” games. This isn’t a one off. This is literally every single game ever played. What a joke.

Yep it is da pot calling da kettle black ... and what is really sad is every knows it but hockey has gone fully legal now with Bettman in charge ... another sad thing is unless you played game competitively most fans do not even get it

It’s not about keeping them close just to keep them close. When games get lopsided, teams are much more likely to start doing really stupid stuff. Referees want to avoid that, so they nudge the game in a more competitive direction. Ideally, that doesn’t happen, but I don’t think referees care who wins, or if the game is close - they care about protecting the players, and also about making their own jobs easier.

I don't think the NFL is exactly a shining example of officiating. Not that I think it's easy to remedy but offensive linemen holding penalties are absolutely arbitrary. There is holding on every down as far as I can see and it is only seems to be called to manage the game. Every time a defensive end gets a half step to the outside on a tackle or a tightend he gets arm hooked and grabbed. Should be a penalty every single time but then there would be very little successful passing offense. Then there's the defensive back who all put their hands on the receivers when it's completely illegal past a buffer zone.

I've mentioned it before, but NFL offensive holding calls are NOT arbitrary; they're based on the team's reputation. Some teams take CONSTANT offensive holding penalties.

Scapegoat for a situation the league (or anyone who knows the game of hockey) has known about forever. They lucked out in a sense that he was near the end of his career so they could "show their indignation" and "prove that this won't be tolerated" while they wait for this "scandal" to fade away as all do. Why do you think that? Players and refs talk a ton during da game .. Refs are telling players what they are calling and what they aren't calling... what crosses da line and what doesn't ... and players are asking questions about how decisions are getting made ... most of time it is respectful ... in a players kinda F8king way if you get it ... refs are all former players so it kinda goes like F*** F*** off fest and we all move on and even have a beer after da game ... if you never went thru it is hard to explain

Or maybe why Marner is our top penalty drawer at 69th overall in the league with more games played and TOI than everyone else around him. Each team has 2 guys who are easier to stop legally?

Just to emphasize this comment... Brady Tkachuk has drawn as many penalties this year by himself as the Leafs' entire first line COMBINED.

I am shocked that Colin Campbell is still around considering all those leaked emails from almost a decade ago. This is a Mickey Mouse league where the poor steal money and time from the rich.

It has NEVER EVER been this way in junior or pro hockey EVER ... why do fans think this? ... refs are former junior and minor pro hockey players who in most cases want to help other players ... keeping games close and excitement high has always been da way ... most of time give da home team a little break in da end so they win most of time and fans keep coming back ... we always have to make sure there are fans in da stands otherwise we don't get paid ... this in not NBA and NFL who can play on TV contracts and pay players same ... this is NHL where fans in da stands drives everything

There is zero logic in this whatsoever.

Not to mention earlier in the year we saw Kerfoot get slammed right on the numbers head first into the boards - the ref literally had his arm part way up but put it back down because it didn't agree with the game management mo. Clearly they don't care about protecting players all that much.

Graham Skilliter is the ref you're talking about. I don't know what the Leafs exact record is under him - but at one point, they were 1-12 with him reffing (in 2018) and the worst officiated games we've seen this year (the second Edmonton game this year being the most egregious) involved him.

Indifferent. He was saying it to Filip Forsberg of all people. He was fired because he got caught, but the league knows there is a problem and doesn't care. If it leads to revamping how people are trained to ref then great. But, it won't.

Hopefully it keeps graham Skillitor honest at least. I’m not much of a conspiracy person but I actually think that guy has a bias against the leafs. I don’t know if any other team has a ref that is actively trying to f*** them over.
