How are you feeling about Tavares these days?

The best thing that could happen to this team is if Tavares goes on LITR. This team has so many holes to fill its alarming. We will be heading into the playoffs weaker than the ROR,Accari,Schenn version with no real way of rectifying it. If we trade what little picks we have left the defenseman hole remains forever and we still lose by 2nd round again.Right now that Tavares contract is the worst in the NHL. No one pays $11M for that performance while having gaping holes elsewhere and wins anything. The lack of foresight in this organization is truly pathetic. Its like being on the Titanic, they spot huge icebergs and the Captain yells "We need full speed or will never get to NY on time."

7shots on goal is good, but next game he need to find the net.

Is there a way to follow the shifts of every player? Or du you have to be in the Toronto staff to do so?
Well if you have event summary (from Game Center nhl.com) on the same time the game is going on, you can get a pretty close to real time account of just what the player did. The only negative is that it’s cumulative so you have to watch fairly closely.

The Leafs are in a fairly strong position here. Tre has no connection to Tavares, and practically speaking the team has to be calculated with its capspace, especially assuming they will be prioritizing extending Marner.

He's going to have to be pretty flexible on caphit if he wants to keep his family in Ontario

His alternative would be to piss off another franchise, hurt his legacy as a player and go to Ottawa (giroux expires same summer)

Ottawa is a worse team, and he is not a player who seems like he would work well there.

He should take 2 years 4M max if he wants to preserve his reputation.

Leafs shouldnt go a $ over 4M

I'm hoping they don't bring him back once his contract expires, to be honest. Just move on.

Offensively, he's basically a glorified JVR at this point. Actually, I'm not sure about the "glorified" part. He's nothing special defensively and doesn't make a big enough positive impact at Even Strength or Five on Five to justify his cap hit. And it's not like he's renowned for his leadership, intangibles or grit. I don't really like his game at this point. Turn to someone else for veteran presence.

Well, look at ROR. He was a UFA last year, being 2 years younger than Tavares by the time he hits free agency and he got $4.5 million out of Nashville.

I don’t really envision a JT extension being all that fruitful but I imagine he would get something between a Gio contract and an ROR contract and nothing more.

Its time to free Willy. I would haaaate it i they give Tavares a cheep contract and stick him with Nylander again. It works when Nylander overachiev, but when he is not it is just realy bad. No Tavares No Bert. Nylander need a fast give and go player. Give the shiny new toy what he needs and stop polishing old turds.

If he retires and becomes a faceoff coach that will probably be the most likely way for him to get his name on the Cup as a Leaf.
