Looks like Ferland for Brown and 2nd imo.

Johnsson should not be traded. We will need him. Canes can keep Pesce.
This...

No way Toronto should/can trade Johnsson or Kapanenen!! Toronto is hard up against the Cap and those 2 players are great and cost controlled.

I don’t care to get Pesce. Keep him Carolina... I don’t find his game that impressive anyway tbh.

Lol, why make stuff up?

I am not making anything up. Were you not here for the Muzzin trade when the talk all around here was that the Kings' chose Durzi over Liljegren? And that the Leafs were trying, but failing, to get rid of Liljegren while he retained some value? I said at the time that such claims were nonsense.

They'll choose to trade Ferland to the Bruins or Lightning for a good young player and a good pick.

Like they did with Skinner? Excellent trade. The Canes have made some bonehead moves in the last year, it wouldn't surprise me if they made more.

You're being ridiculous if you even think about getting Johnsson for Ferland. The Leafs said no to something around Johnsson and Pesce, why would they deal him for an overrated rental lol

then why not keep Skinner? traded him for less than Ferland? How does that make sense?

The motivation for dealing Skinner went beyond not letting a player walk for nothing. The organization really wanted a culture change, as evidenced by all of the turnover from the FO to behind the bench to on the ice. People are seeing Skinner in a contract after having been given a big kick in the pants. He didn't fit in with what they wanted the way he played last season.

Probably part of it was financial, too. The Canes didn't spend the money they saved by dealing him. Hopefully that money gets spent in later years as the team gets better.

So, they traded him for the best offer they could get. The teams on his trade list, including the Leafs, didn't step up with anything better. It was not a good organizational decision to pull the trigger. I won't defend it.

Ferland would purely be about not letting a player walk for nothing. However, Carolina is in the thick of the race and selling Ferland for meh would send a bad message to the young players that will form the foundation of a winner in the future. The Canes have been in asset accumulation mode for 5 years; there's enough asset depth in the organization to forgo the type of pieces a team like the Maple Leafs would make available.

How can this be when just a week or two ago we were told that they were trying to give Liljegren away, but teams have decided that Durzi was better?

Your wording is a tad out of touch...give Liljegren away was never said. It was stated that the Kings preferred Durzi not other teams and that was on Friedman’s 31 thoughts article never on TV. Was that your attempt on shitting on Liljegren?

Go for it, who do you think the Bruins will give up? Debrusk? Lightning will probablu throw you a pick and a mid level prospect tops.

I imagine both teams would give up a decent amount for a player of Ferlands ability. I'd be surprised if he went for less than a first and prospect or a high level prospect.

He was actually shitting on posters attempts to downgrade lilijgren and say that the leafs were open to trading him over durzi in the dubas deal. That poster is a fan of lilijgren and gave a lot of updates about him in lilijgren rookie season in the ahl.

Johnsson being thrown around a ton buy media, but he has snuck into 3rd in rookie scoring while playing on the Leafs 3rd/4th line for most of the year.
27 points in 47 games, all in 12:50 of ice time. Killing penalties and not getting much PP time.
I can see why he is being bandied about for solid returns.

Wonder if the Leafs had to choose just 1, if they keep Kap or AJ?
AJ is a LW, where Leafs are weak. Kap is a RW behind Marner and Nylander.

Either way, both young solid NHLers who seem to have solid value.

If its going for some grit/some scoring/ not being a rental (Dubas said he prefers some term) what about...
Marcus Foligno?
LW? Check!
Size? 6'3, Check!
Currently on the worst point pace of his career, and has 2 more seasons at 2.875. Corsi and Fenwick look favorable, positive expected goals ratio, and fought Wilson and Reaves last year and looked decent.

Probably wont cost too much since his offensive output is MEH at best, but he can probably be that energy bumping guy in the playoffs we are missing lower down the lineup.

If you can work out a deal around Brown + Zaitsev for Pateryn and Foligno as a base, could be mutually beneficial.

No it is me stating the Leafs never had any intentions of trading Liljegren - despite many on here saying that they were trying to get rid of him a couple weeks ago. Friedman's claim that the Kings preferred Durzi was pure nonsense because Liljegren was never offered in place of Durzi.
