WE were 11 6 for skaters as it is. We have hardly anybody to dress. Drai wasn't bad by any means in the game. Scored plus lots of set ups. His pass to Kane was exceptional. Kane fumbled it when he had most of an empty cage staring at him.

That weakass shootout attempt is enough to earn a spot in the pressbox. Pathetic.
A 70% or 80% Drai is garbage. If he's not near 100%, he should sit as they'll need him healthy in the playoffs.

70-80% Drai is probably still our 2nd best player. he wasn't bad at all in regulation time. Didn't have much to work with. You should focus on what the loaded up first line was getting done after 1st period, i.e. nothing.

The shootout attempt was embarrassing Agreed there. But you don't bench a player for that. you stop putting him on shootouts. Drai would actually like that.

They aren’t winning with this defense period and I don’t think adding Karlsson changes that. They can’t prevent the other team from scoring goals. They’ll score more goals with Karlsson but they’ll still have the same problem. They’re so bad defensively they’ll just keep giving up one more than they get. Games like tonight where they blow a 3 goal lead highlight what this teams problems really are. It’s not offence, we’re the highest scoring team in the league. We need defensive D men.

The stretch with Desharnais is the only stretch where they've had a respectable GA since the new coach systems bump wore off in last year's regular season.

Oilers this year with Desharnais: 2.6 GA

Hmmm. The d corps is shit, when an AHL guy can walk onto the team and dramatically reduce GA, it says a lot.

I would still make the move. Sitting around and waiting forever to get any good players isn't going to hold. At least with Karlsson if the D isn't good enough past that you can add more Desharnais type meat and potatoes defenders and move crap like Ceci out.

That slapper almost has a sense of “stop putting me in the shootout” vibe lol

I got this feel too. It has been apparent for years now that Drai absolutely blows at shootouts. In the post game after the Detroit game Gregor wordsmithed a question to Woodcroft that basically politely asked why Leon is still in them despite being terrible in them and got they typical howdy doody non answer in return. You could tell Gregor was trying to get across a “hey coach - this is dumb” message that clearly went over Woody’s head.

Judging by that joke of an attempt Leon is probably tired of embarrassing himself on them too. Agree that it seemed like a message to the staff to stop throwing him out there.

I thought thats what he did. Looked like he was aiming for the Organ player like in Slapshot. That was technicolor telling coach not to put me out on this shootout pony show. Bad look, but McDrai know that the NHL are moving to 10mins of 3 on 3 format and that shootouts will rarely be a thing going forward. Drai hates the shootout.

Lucky. Rangers were slightly better team in first period and were somehow down 3-0 and 4-1. Campbell was spectacular in this game and rangers creating 5 bell scoring chances pretty much at will. The loss felt inevitable even at 4-1. Even after 2nd period I posted the only reason we're in this game is Campbell standing on his head keepng us in it. 3rd period was a complete tirefire. Rangers tilted ice.

Sadly they probably need both. This d corp is not great at zone exits and until Desharnais airlifted in they have been soft in high scoring areas. Rangers were faster and better in their puck movement transition game from own zone or neutral ice to forwards in motion. Then dissecting Oiler own zone defending which gave up tons of uncontested quality shooting areas on the ice.

The trouble with this roster though is its about 4 players scoring vast majority of goals. Kane is not right yet and is awful at shootout in his career. Drai is around 33% in shootouts. Kane is like 10%

The 5th leading scorers on the team are Ryan and McLeod. Its seeminly as if people forget how this team is structured when we here all this adhoc who's on the shootout analysis. The only 3 players we have that have been any good at it are McD, Nuge, and Drai and for whatever reason Drai doesn't want it. Its slim pickings and frankly the Barrie pick was good.
