Best of luck. I'd be a bit surprised if it's sold out. I feel outside of collectors editions, games selling out day one of major releases at stores is pretty rare in an era of digital games. I go to my local gamestore occasionally for the big game releases and they rarely have issues, and they aren't ordering in anywhere near the same bulk. Hence, why I find pre-ordering, in general, a bit nutty (the 3 days early playability here though, I can see being worth the extra 10 bucks/pre-order).

The days of people lining up for individual game releases and midnight drops seem to be a thing of the past. 10-15 years ago, I could see mass lines for games like this, Spider-Man 2, Tears of the Kingdom and Starfield. Now, with digital distribution big stores are likely to get enough copies to tide them over for awhile.
It seems like the major incentive for pre orders now is the 3 day early access.

Wanted to wait until tomorrow to start but I couldn't wait. The game is stunning. The level of detail is just mind blowing and the game sucks you right in.

If you are a Potter fan, this is the game you have been waiting for. Going to be an easy 9 or 10 for you.

If you aren't a Potter fan, I think it is still going to be an enjoyable experience. But I'm guessing most would rate it closer to an 8.

New York CNN —

The world of Harry Potter is getting new life.

Hogwarts Legacy – the new open-world video game by Avalanche and Warner Bros. Discovery, CNN’s parent company, will be released Friday, to much anticipation.

The single-player game has been five years in the making — experts put its budget at $150 million. The game already broke a record on Twitch for being the most-watched single-player game, played by streamers who got the game early. And it’s the No. 1 pre-sale this week on gaming platform Steam.

“Open world style games are a really a big deal in the games industry,” said Joost van Dreunen, an adjunct professor at New York University’s Stern School of Business who was formerly CEO of games market research firm Super Data Research. “The expectations are quite high not just from the consumers, but also from the game makers themselves.”

That was a good suggestion. Thanks!

I just tried to do it, but unfortunately it won’t let me apply my $5 monthly reward to the purchase because i guess ordering PlayStation gift cards doesn’t qualify. I guess I could order it without the additional $5 discount though.

I might just not preorder it and drive to get it right from the store tomorrow (assuming it’s not sold out by then).

Trying to decide how much I care about the preorder bonuses. I don’t really give a crap about the flying horse (whatever it’s called). But that potion that showed where chests are sounded cool. It only shows them for 24 hours though, and I’m not sure if it’s just a 1 time use or repeatable?

I wonder if that potion will still be available in game if you didn’t preorder. Like I wonder if you can still get the recipe at some point during the game or if it’s only available with preorder.
Does anyone know?

I’m sure I could just use online guides to find any chests I miss too.
The whole issue holding up you pre-ordering this game is a $5 dollar credit from Gamestop? You have wasted more than $5 of your time just being on hold with them for 45 minutes.

While you always have terrible too online Twitter discourse what probably amplifies it us so much of the games media for a variety of reasons jump in on and make that topic the focus too.

I was thinking for a Hollywood comparison Enders Game would make a good contrast as it has the same type of underlying issues, but i guess that was a good decade ago and this wasn't as common then so who knows.

Anyways for the game I think this may be a rare one I pick up at full price, but will give it a bit of time on steam for bugs to get worked out.

PC benchmarks:

Note that all testing was done with a Ryzen 7 7700X, so you might get lower performance with older CPUs. Also, he says in his conclusion that the game is playable with only 16GB of system RAM, but has a lot less stuttering if you have more.

"The game is mid at best"

Take a look at the reviewer lmfao. World is a literal circus.

She looks like It's Pat from the SNL sketches. But this is the best part:

"Every character feels like an off-brand version of the characters we know and love."

Oh, the characters that Rowling created?

I had heard this on twitter and thought it was a joke, but no, the person who reviewed this primarily does sex toy reviews for Wired.

Review is so cringe:

"Yikes, y’all. I don’t even smoke and I feel like I need a cigarette before I get this thing started...."

I saw somebody earlier say that this controversy is purely online and the average person hasn’t heard of it. I actually think most normal people have heard of it, especially since the average gamer is likely to be more online. Its just that I think the average gamer really does not care. However, that doesn't change the fact that the way game journalists and even a lot of independent reviewers behaved has been super discrediting.

I called before that poster mentioned buying PlayStation gift cards and getting the digital game from the PlayStation store. But regardless, Why pay more than I need to? I wanted the physical disc anyway. I always try to buy the physical disc when I can. It gives me something to sell or trade in. Plus I couldn’t play it until today anyway, so it didn’t really matter that much to wait.

I just waited until today and went to the store to get it. It actually worked out pretty well. I still got all the preorder bonuses and It only cost me $50 total. $5 off for my monthly reward. Another $5 off for paying with a trade in credit. Then the girl working ended up somehow giving me another $10+ off. She also wrote down the days/hours she works on my receipt and told me to come back and see her. 😁 she was really nice, and quite pretty too. I might ask her to dinner. I didn’t ask if she was single, but I guess I’ll find out if I ask her out. lol
