I wonder how this game will appeal to non Potter fans. I'm a fantasy nerd (of the epic type) and the game looks pretty good... but I haven't seen a Potter movie nor read any of the books. Just have zero interest in it, but kind of interested in the game. Any chance the good reviews are from hardcore fans?
I think it holds itself well in terms of not needing to know anything about Harry Potter to get into it. It takes place a hundred years prior to the books. I am only 5 hours in and aside from one recognizable name and places...there is nothing else "familiar"

I'm not a hard core fan nor have I read the books (just the movies) and it's a fantastic story so far (just a few hours into it). Check the hashtags on Twitter #hogwartslegacy etc. If you can filter through all the crap the game reviews from fans will be there.

Apparently Sony servers have been acting funny. Tons of ppl getting a message saying "unable to verify license" for any game.

I imagine that so many people are watching streams of the game because they want to find out if it's worth spending $60-70 on. It's also a way to experience the game for free so that they don't have to buy it. In general, I don't get why people care to watch others play games when they can just play them, themselves, but the price, hype and staggered release makes it a little easier for me to understand in this case.

could be but id bet the hype of the game is the main culprit
Considering you can’t find a physical deluxe copy and the second the expensive collectors edition goes on sale it sells out, I’d say the hype is one of the biggest for a game ever.

It's cool so far if you're a HP fan. I definitely get the sense I wouldn't be enjoying it much if I didn't love the universe, the books etc.

The abruptness of the Sorting Hat test was jarring. I was like, wait, that's it? Then after doing some research I discovered there's an online version of the test which actually asks more than two questions but I'd have to create two new accounts to do it and link it to my game so that's kind of lame for something that should have been a cool early game event.

You get that option for the sorting hat if you link your account up before you start of the game.

Interesting point. Either way, can't wait to get my hands on it!
I just checked the trophy list and there are trophies for all four houses.

A tip for those playing on Nvidia PCs, the game apparently ships with an old version of DLSS. You will see big performance and image quality improvements by replacing the DLL with the newest version.

Game is downloaded on my PS5 and ready to go on Friday after I get off work!

Not even a HP fan, but I can tell this game is going to be amazing!

Here's the details for the Hogwarts Legacy Day One Patch:
  • Fixed game-crashing issues
  • Addressed stuttering and lag issues
  • Added gameplay adjustments and optimizations
  • Added general stability fixes
  • Added performance improvements
  • Other minor fixes

Also, Nvidia released a new driver today, 528.49, which supposedly includes a "Game Ready Driver Profile" for Hogwarts Legacy that enables a few optimizations that might help performance. I wouldn't get hopes up, especially since the drivers notes don't mention it, but you might as well update just in case.

I pre-ordered last night but for some reason wasn't able to download it. When were you able to download it?
I think we were able to start DLing it since Monday but I didn't have time to download it until today. It gave me the option when I clicked on it.

damn, i didn't see the option to d/l it anywhere. all it showed was the automatic d/l.
Ah you might have just missed it:

"Owners of the Standard Edition will be able to preload the game from February 7. Those who bought the Deluxe Edition will be able to do it from February 5"

So it should definitely give you the option now when you go back on.

From what I have seen from my wife playing, I am not particularly impressed. But she is way early into the game and things may pick up or become more engaging.
