It will amongst basic hockey card collectors, but I have to imagine there are people who collect sports cards whenever there's a phenom in a sport up.

Raw ? That would be sick.

I've considered just buying raw cards in good shape, get them graded and then sell for a profit and keep going, but I'm also kind of lazy

Im not into raws, too much chance for it to not be worth the raw price. I also like slabbed cards because they are protected from the mail/ups/fed ex

Well, the market fell flat on it's face.

The pandemic collectors came in and thought pandemic prices were here to stay and got a rude awakening then left. There were people here talking "gem rates" and all that crap who had no clue what they were talking about.

Long story short, I'm a flipper before flipper became a thing. I said all along these prices weren't gonna last but everyone is an expert except the actual experts. I sold a lot of McDavid cup rookies for almost a million dollars and had the guy emailing me a few months later for his money back. The pandemic collectors were suckers. Every single one of them. And most of us actual big time dealers took advantage of them because we've already been thru this shit three decades ago. And I don't feel sorry one bit. You all bit into the hype and didn't listen when everyone said "don't waste your money".

Hell, even that Gretzky rookie sale was shilled to oblivion from the same auction house that sold a Mario64 cartridge for almost two million.

That's why this thread died. It wasn't about showing off good stuff which did happen and then this thread was awesome, it became more of an investor/speculation thread about ultra modern cards and that's when the wheels fell off because nobody understands Upper Deck prints enough crap that everyone who wants a certain card can get that card.

There's a pop 1 Luongo psa 10 card on eBay collecting dust at under 50 bucks. Nobody is buying it when you can call your own shot a few years from now with it once people understand just how rare the card is. That's what separates actual flippers from the influx of new investors.

Buy vintage.
Very interesting. Just curious, is there anything else you collect/invest in besides hockey cards?

Is there a release date for 21-21 The Cup?

Ie sometime this year or onto 2024?

UD is ridiculous
No, and historically they never speak about the Cup until it’s packed out and ready to go. You’ll see a sell sheet with mock images at some point then it’ll be radio silence until maybe a week before release when they show packout preview photos of the live cards on Facebook.

In the interim there’s no point even asking them about it. They are always tight lipped when it comes to The Cup. Just know it’s always going to come out, eventually, as it’s their pinnacle brand.

People are still paying 150 + for Lafreniere YG PSA 10's. I don't about you guys but that's pretty ridiculous for a guy that's looking like a major bust.

Good lord there's 1400+ psa10 Laf ygs.

In my opinion just on the amount of tens out there that's a 25 dollar card.

But, you have super collectors, team collectors, and psa 10 set builders driving that price. It's probably gonna hover around 150 for at least another year unless he actually breaks out.

But, 1400 psa 10s puts it in the "there's enough of them to go around" category. There's almost 2500 psa 10 McDavids not counting BGS. There's early 90's insert sets serial numbered lower then that.

A Griffey Jr insert numbered to 1k is a better deal then a McDavid psa10 YG which are selling around 4k.

This is why I have always said young guns are the worst investment you could ever make

Very interesting. Just curious, is there anything else you collect/invest in besides hockey cards?
Yeah, baseball and basketball cards.

I'll make more money flipping baseball cards then I'd ever make on hockey.

Hell, you can make more money flipping wrestling cards then hockey

Only way is if you can buy a somewhat rare card for 50 bucks, get it graded and sell it for like 700 then maybe.
You don't know what your talking about.

Wrestling cards are quantity. For the price of the actual Hockey wax you need to make good money you can buy cases upon cases of wrestling and make a shitload of money because wrestling fans are dedicated.

Next time do a little research.

I did.

Ebay - sold - highest price + shipping and the cards that sold 5 were from the past 3 years, the rest were all older. 2 were from prism/panini and were asking 1k, but sold for best offer. A box on ebay for that set someone is asking 800..

You can make money off of them, but like anything you need to hit and it seems rare to hit like any cards.

Again, quantity.

You're using your little app to look up single cards. I'm here saying every card in a box of wrestling cards has value.

You don't get it and that's fine. This is why I make money selling this stuff.

You say YGs are the worst investment, but I wish I bought an Ovechkin PSA 10 YG a few years ago, that was an investment!

Shoulda got one game in
Beautiful card! Congrats! Are there other Lemieux rookie cards out there? Specifically true rookie cards made before he played full season?

There’s only two tue rookie cards. The Topps shown, and O-Pee-Chee. Until the 90s, there were only two manufacturers of cards. Topps in the US, and O-Pee-Chee in Canada.

Otherwise, there’s card 262 from the O-Pee-Chee set which is a rookie scoring leader card, and a Topps and O-Pee-Chee box bottom. There are also variants of the box bottom.

As well, there are two O-Pee-Chee sticks, and a credit card issued by 7/11 that also has Mike Bullard on it.

Pre-NHL, the only card that exists is a 1983 Team Canada card, which was produced in anticipation of him being on the 1983 World Junior team.

Damn that purple GO

I was watching a shesterkin BGS 9.5 young guns and boy im thinking there was a shill bidder in the house. Someone with 3 feedback kept raising the price of the auction every couple seconds during the last 2 mins of the auction, they didnt win but raised the card from 125>185. I ultimately decided not to bid because i have one at BGS currently, i honesty have no idea how to grade so it could come back even or higher but because i dont know is why i was thinking hard on bidding.
