Here are a couple of recent patch pickups that I’m thrilled about:

I’ve always loved memorabilia cards but after seeing the way things are trending towards “player worn” and even non-player worn material in the other big sports I now have an even greater appreciation for game-used stuff than ever.

We can fault UD for a lot of things lately but putting out quality mem cards is one thing they are excelling at where other manufacturers (*cough* Panini *cough*) are getting lazier and lazier.

Sweet cards, but I had to chuckle at your post when UD essentially ripped the design for those from Panini Prime Colors.

Just bought a series 1 fat pack from Walmart for 8 bucks. 26 cards, 25 of them base cards, one Darnell Nurse portrait (value 50 cents). Probably the worst pack of cards I've ever bought. Never again

Couple ok rookies and that's about it.
Probably none sell over a $100 in a year.
Detroit players sell terrible for an original 6 team not sure what you guys are so hyped about.
Bro, I don’t think anybody really cares about investing on UD flagship in this thread if you haven’t noticed. Most of that talk went away months ago.

Most people here….this might be a shock… collect flagship and chase YG’s for the fun of it. And honestly, if that’s their price point does it really matter?

Let’s just have fun with this thread and this hobby. I’d rather see pics of Pavel Bure YG’s then trying to predict the “bro how much is my card worth” crap.

Hey I'm just getting back into the hobby of collecting cards. Sorry for my noob question. Did I miss my shot on picking up some boxes of SP Authentic at a reasonable price? I see some places have them on preorder for $425 a box. Wasn't this product around a $150 a box? Do you think my local card shop will have any at a reasonable price?
Reasonable...yeah $500-$600 Canadian...

Those fat packs are for base set collectors, there's only one hit in them.

Yea no way I'm picking up any at that price especially with that weak rookie class. O

Isn't that how it is with all fat packs? 25 base cards and 1 insert?

What's the history with global authentication again ? Didn't they go bankrupt, or something and someone got a hold of their authentication stuff like stickers and cards stating as such and authenticated a bunch of shit ?

Opened the first box. Happy with the results. As stated above the card condition is back to normal. No rounded corners nor edges that look like 80's OPC. Also, as stated above there may be a coalition to watch for. My box had no Marquee Rookies or UD Portraits of note but this was my haul.

Jake Neighbours (467)
Moritz Seider (469)
Vasily Podkolzin (481)
Frederic Allard (483)
William Lockwood (490)
Oskar Steen (494)
Jonathan Dahlen Clear Cut (473)
Mark Stone UD Canvas Program of Excellence (C269)

I got Neighbours, Seider and Steen in mine. Also Mercer and Newhook are definitely together.

Have 3 boxes in the mail. What's sad is that my S2 hobby boxes will get here before my S1 tins do....

Box 2 results:

Nils Lundkvist (456)
Lucas Raymond (464)
Yegor Chinakhov (471)
Anton Lundell (489)
Jacob Peterson (492)
Maxwell Willman (497)
Lucas Raymond Dazzlers (DZ-68)

Ordered 5 boxes, opened 2 and hit on the 2 cards I wanted. Content to shelve the remaining boxes for now and see how the market shakes out with the boxes. Might be worth selling in the future.

Yep but the boxes still go up in value. Just like the cards themselves. No shortage of the Matthews YG. I paid $326 in a bidding war in March 2020. Look at the price now.
You'll be able to get these cheaper in 1-2 years.
There's no Matthews/Mcdavid in these boxes.
How much is Elias Pettersson now?

People did not keep wax sealed as much as the last two years.
I guess you don't know the difference between 25k cases and the usual 5k cases they used to print.
Plus no one is buying at those "prices" anyway, DA Adams has 18/19 series 1/2 for $300 usd a box...you think anythone actually buys that when the best YG is $70 usd.
My LCS had trouble moving that even during the boom at $150.

The issue with the hype players, is that the ones that actually reach their potential far outsell even their initial hype prices. For example, everyone though people were crazy paying $200-300 for a McDavid YG on release or $80 for a MacKinnon YG...now those prices seem like bargains.

For hockey, it's always the same thing. The hot YGs sell for $70-200 or so. Then they drop in price. Then will either fade into almost nothingness or shoot up in price dramatically. Picking the best rookies to invest in is the trick, and it's a tough one to accomplish. There's a reason why the market sets the prices as they do. In 2013/14, the hottest YGs were: MacKinnon, Galchenyuk, Yakupov, and Huberdeau. Obviously looking back on things now, we can see the vastly different paths these 4 players took. Yakupov and Galchenyuk are worthless. MacKinnon stayed somewhat strong before skyrocketing. Huberdeau tanked, but has now started skyrocketing again.

I don't think it's as simple as rookie cards are a bad investment. In fact, they are the best investment. It's a matter of separating hype and actually picking the good players though. Also market timing. Not all rookies are best to buy right out of the gate.

Agreed, back in 2013 I was collecting MacKinnon and Galchenyuk mostly. Then Galchenyuk busted hard. Picked up McDavid YG on release day for like 160 CAD.

Now, it's impossible to even get a McDavid YG ungraded for anything below 1300$.

Sent these two beauties to BGS, got them back 1 year after! Not gonna be sad about the BGS 9 but still, two beautiful cards!

This is the result of 3 boxes without the YGs or low end inserts. I did hit Seider and Sillinger as well as a bunch of other less notable guys. Turgeon goes into the OC eventhough it’s the wrong jersey (UD seems to despise the Islanders for some reason).

I'd say you killed that. You hit the best YGs, plus multiple numbered and acetate cards. I opened 5 boxes of S1 hobby (3 real and 2 epack) and I haven't hit a single numbered or acetate card.

This was 3 random boxes from a fresh case of s2. My buddies took the other 9. I don’t really chase anything outside of building a set for the PC. Epacks/COMC makes it MUCH cheaper to buy bulk low end YGs now so I just wait for that to drop then finish my set based on the credit I have from selling on that site. I did maybe the equivalent of 1 box worth of s1 packs on epacks and the only notable card was a Swayman YGC. My 5 boxes from s1 I absolutely killed with 4 YGC (all low end guys) and all the big named YG (except Knight).

My bad luck with pulling the big YG continues. No Caufield, and I've opened 5 hobby boxes, 6 tins, and 6 blasters. Same thing happened last year though, as it took me like 18 boxes worth pull a Laf, but I did pull a bunch of Robertson. I actually think Caufield won't be all that great long term, so I'm happy with the two Zegras I've pulled so far.

Bought a hobby box of S2 yesterday. Best I got was a Byfield YG. 5 other non-name YG's, a few canvas, bunch of OPC garbage.
Honestly, might be the last box I buy. From a price point, I can buy the YG cards I want on ebay and pay less in the long run

Upper deck just prints too much hobby now to make it economical. There was a time where you got an Exclusive every 1.5 boxes or so, so the odds of getting an exclusive/high gloss YG were a lot higher. The prices point has also risen. They've also started giving out fewer packs in retail, so fewer YGs. I'm buying fewer boxes, and knowing that I'm throwing cash out the window when I do so.
