It's a very deep crop of rookies. Why are all card dudes as pessimistic as they come?
Cannot speak for anyone but me but the cost per hobby box going from $80 to $110 while the quality control takes a nosedive is infuriating. Why am I opening brand new product and every card has edges like it was cut with a butter knife and has dulled corners?

That's fair. I stay far away from S1 and S2 hobby boxes. I pick up some blasters since I get a 30% discount from my job and buy singles on eBay.

Also, I believe this guy posts on another forum I am active on and it's 100% negativity from him.

Blaster boxes have been scarce in my area. Stock levels have never recovered after being pulled from shelves post-COVID. They used to be a cheaper alternative. Never had much success in the hit category. Best pull from a blaster was Jack Hughes YG.

Would be better if UD did not holdover a bunch of good rookies for next year.
None of these players are that exciting right now when you are opening a case.

Don’t tell such scary stories so late at night! My inner child is having nightmares. I’ve sold maybe a dozen different collections I personally put together worth $100k+, many of which are worth more than a million today.
Worst part is that knowing my father, it was likely in pretty good shape.

The best rookie card I got from a UD 21/22 Series I was Connor McDavid. It wasn't shining nor limited edition. Just a rookie special cardboard card.

I go for retail boxes since it is cheaper and still gets you 6 young guns.

So who is realistically going to be in Extended this year? What's the cut-off date to be included in this year? I think it used to be the ASG but not sure if that's still true.

Retail boxes I don’t think you can get YG Exclisices or High Gloss though can you? I know the chances are very slim anyways , but I’m pretty sure it used to be that those were only found in hobby boxes.

All numbered cards, including high gloss and exclusives, are only found in hobby boxes for series 1/2. The reason being there is no set limit on retail production. They print them based on demand, and if you had numbered card sin them, there would be no way to space them out in retail.

Retail is limited to the basic inserts and canvas. Although apparently some French cards slipped into last year's retail. Retail can be great value though, especially on sale, as the basic YGs can hold a lot of value relative to the price of retail. UD also seems to be overprinting hobby. I've bought multiple hobby boxes that don't even have a "hobby" hit in them. The Exclusives seem to fall 2-3 per case now, and before they were almost 1 per box.

UD is trying to cash in on the current bump in interest, so they are churning out more boxes than before. That's why like you said, i believe Retail is great value since you get basically the same cards as hobby. The odds of packing a good high gloss or exclusive is so low that paying more for it is not worth it.

Hey I'm just getting back into the hobby of collecting cards. Sorry for my noob question. Did I miss my shot on picking up some boxes of SP Authentic at a reasonable price? I see some places have them on preorder for $425 a box. Wasn't this product around a $150 a box? Do you think my local card shop will have any at a reasonable price?

Doubt it. Your local card shop has no reason to leave money on the table. Prices have skyrocketed since COVID.

Series 2 is looking good so far , I'm very tempted to buy a hobby box. The card quality is on par for what it should be and they added small things like a place to tear the lacks open and added more detail to the dazzlers cards. The rookie crop is amazing too , so many good young guns cards in Series 2.

If S2 is a reliable indicator then perhaps UD has turned the corner when it comes to getting quality and hopefully release schedules back on the rails. They’re saying 2020-21 SP Authentic is finally going to release later in the month as well. There is still a lot of ground to make up but we could be in for a busy calendar year of releases.

I still won’t be touching boxes at the way over-inflated prices but at least I’ll have new waves of singles to chase.

Here are a couple of recent patch pickups that I’m thrilled about:

I’ve always loved memorabilia cards but after seeing the way things are trending towards “player worn” and even non-player worn material in the other big sports I now have an even greater appreciation for game-used stuff than ever.

We can fault UD for a lot of things lately but putting out quality mem cards is one thing they are excelling at where other manufacturers (*cough* Panini *cough*) are getting lazier and lazier.

Who are the top Young Guns in S2 aside from Raymond, Seider, Byfield?

Are any of the base cards worth keeping?

UPS successfully delivered my order from Steel City Collectibles. I was on needles and pins waiting. UPS and FedEx have both been abysmal as of late. Now my anxiety is building. Ordered 5 boxes and I am going to be pissed beyond measure if I don't pull a Seider. Hoping lightning will strike and I pull him from the first box so I can stash the other 4.

You have just over a 60% chance of pulling a Seider. 30 YGs in 5 boxes, and 50 YGs total, plus a small chance of pulling one of the YG variations.

Anyone know if JJ Peterka or Jack Quinn can / will be in Extended? Peterka debuted 12.29.21 and Quinn on 1.11.22
