And I would like to point out there’s more PSA 10 Coby White Prizm rookies in the wild then the entire YG checklist of last year or the year before.

Not just one card, then entire run of YG’s.

Who the f*** is Coby White ?

Getting cards in the mail is always awesome.

I gotta ask though, was that like 5 bucks ?

Yes but at the same time, BGS 9.5s are the best deals on the market. They can very well be 10 quality
It’s the best kept open secret in the hobby.

If you have been in this hobby longer then the pandemic, you know the flippers are trying to dictate the market. Current cards are going to drop considerably and most of the sales are bogus. It’s nothing but a pump and dump. With the whole Wata graded gaming scandal that went thru Heritage auctions I’m having a hard time believing the Gretzky rookie that sold is legitimate since it went thru heritage also.

Coby White is a mediocre basketball player.

The point is nobody cares about hockey cards in comparison to other sports and collectors or “investors” should be leary of paying top dollar on cards nobody is going to want in the future.

As for rumors, rumor has it the reason UD products didn’t come out was on account of them trying to sell to Fanatics but fanatics doesn’t want anything but the Lebron and Jordan exclusives. They don’t want hockey.

That’s LOL worthy fail.

Well, yeah, you go where the popularity is.

Then again, collectors can't figure out PSA just pumps out 10s like crazy, so they might boost up hockey cards for some unknown reason

Not sure I understand that. Series 1 is their biggest money maker. If you're selling a business you want to make it look at profitable as possible before a sale.

Fanatics probably bought up all the supplies needed to manufacture cards.

That was indeed the time to buy both.

Good job, as usual

Actually I opened them along with my Crosby and Ovie SPA FWs and many others. Even in 2009, I was still buying spillover unsold 05-06 product because it was cheap and because the rookie class was the best.

I'd rather open the same product over and over again for 3 years than go for the shiny new toy, once I am confident that the same product's class is that good. That being said, I did open plenty of 06-07, 07-08 and 08-09 product too, since those classes weren't bad. I mostly kept opening the key products with the best RCs (UD base and SP Authentic).

So although those guys aren't in my PC, I have a ton of (what are considered by the hobby) good RCs and hard-signed rookie year autos of Crosby, Ovechkin, Malkin, Toews, Kane, Price, Stamkos, etc. The only ones I PCed and bought singles of from that time were my Kings...Kopitar and Doughty, during their rookie years. My Doughty RC PC is crazy.

As someone who has never graded anything yet has a pretty crazy collection, I find stuff like that very disturbing. I was actually upset at the 10's when I saw them. It all seems so rigged and dishonest.
I agree.

I’ve been doing a lot of research on the Gretzky sale and something seems sketchy over the whole situation since it happened. That card never should have sold at that amount.

You throw in that this is the auction house that sold the graded Mario cartridge for 1.5 million and things get weirder.

This is the sale that literally jump started the hockey card market. There was a Bobby Orr BGS 9.5 on eBay dying at 500k for over two years and suddenly out of nowhere a Gretzky sells at 3.5 mil? It didn’t make sense.

The guys on blowout are on the ball. If this is true, and I have no doubt it is, this is going to bomb the hockey card market back into the Stone Age.

I remember being critical of it back when it was posted. Seeing some of that just enfuriates me. I mean the grading concept is a legitimate idea but the fact that a biased clown can affect the value of my good by that much is bothersome. I mean the difference in return between levels is close to 9-10 times the value.

Well, here’s the other PSA 10 Gretzky rookie

As you can see, this cards been trimmed too. OPC cards this clean around the corners are a red flag they have been altered.

What does this mean? I think you will see a dramatic increase in interest in clean Topps rookies over OPC. For all you “investors “, that’s a gem dropped right in your laps from somebody who knows the hobby.

One thing I will say is my Gretzky has very, very good edges (ie little evidence of rough cut) and I know mine is 100% real, I was there when it came out of the pack. Sadly my top to bottom centering is off. Side to side is pretty good.

Like 80/20 off?

With the price where it’s at you should get it graded.

OPC Lemieux rookie psa 8 just ended with zero bids at 1.6k price. That’s a steal at that price and if I saw it earlier I would have pounced on it

I'm fascinated in this. Not in that it looks like the grading of the card may be embellished. But as someone who has never had a card graded and hasn't been in the hobby for 25+ years (but have always wanted to stay in it and/or get back in it), I'm amazed with the amount of intricacy goes into grading.

The rough edges I get based on how it's been handled over the years. But the smallest of blemishes or the card being off-centred -- things I figured were completely based on how the card was manufactured -- amazes me. I just figured all cards mass produced from the same print were the exact same.

Been a pretty good learning process about it all.

EDIT: Also suggesting the Gretzky card was trimmed. As in, something tried cutting it down themselves? (I'm picturing not with scissors, but those straight edge cutters found in schools or print shops)

Nah it’s done with lasers now.

Trimming used to be done with scalpels. Now it’s high tech.
