Not sure if you need a better camera...what you need is better lighting. All cameras look great taking pics in outdoor sunshine on a clear day 80 degrees outside. Almost all cameras look like crap in the dark with a moving target. 1) improve your lighting...if you're feeling a little sweaty, the lighting might be high enough; 2) instead of holding the card and forcing your camera to track, have a little stand in the shot where you put the card so it sits nice and still; 3) use a nice dark and solid background...the background will absorb excess light and not distract the camera so that only your card is lit and becomes the focus of the camera...you can use a dark cloth or solid construction paper or one of those play mats that Magic players use.

Not a bad idea. Maybe aim the camera down. I'm trying to figure out how the break guys do it.

I guess the camera must be in front of their face and they are reaching around it. Doing it that way also would allow me to look at what is being filmed.

Since the local stores stopped carrying cards, whats the best way to get into hockey cards? I'm more of a buy a pack in the checkout kinda buyer, not so much a rare mega value hunter

Yeah, work on it...actually the break guys shots look like crap too, but they have no choice since they have to open and then move on quickly. If you're making a video to showcase cards you know you're going to feature in your shoot, you can get a much higher quality than those guys and not for a ton of money either. It's all about lighting...and by that I don't just mean your light source but how you manage it (with blockers and reflectors).

Looking at the McDavid The Cup RPA, that style is just terrible. Having the player sign over words was an awful idea, and is far too busy and messy to look good.

But I've found most of The Cup RPA cards are really poorly designed, so I shouldn't be too surprised.

I kind of like that year's design. The auto is blue and the writing grey, so you can clearly see both. Having the auto on top of the writing opens up more vertical space for the player photo. So you get almost a full photo from the waist up that year, as opposed to just a head or photo from the chest up.

Here's a couple of my other favorite cards from the sub. SGC is moving sooooooo quick and provide these terrific high-res scans. These probably took 12 days between when they arrived and when they were sent back to me. I've got another 50+ cards going there on Monday because any soccer in a slab is hot right now.

Fully agreed. I stumbled on it a few months ago, and am a big fan. Watch every new video as they come out. He has a great presentation, straightforward, and knows what he's talking about.

Only downside is he's not too big into hockey, but that's understandable.
Yeah he admits he doesn't know much about hockey, but he does mix it into his videos which is nice. Some just ignore it completely.

That Ovie is cheap even being a BGS 8.

Gretzky way overpriced. Must be schilled or something.

The funny thing about the grading wait times is that by the time some people get their cards back, the boom will be over.

Bought a box of Series 1 and 2 today that were on sale for a good price. Thinking of holding onto them long-term. Something I've wanted to do for a while, just never have the self-discipline to do it. But not interested in anything in the boxes now, and doubt I can get enough value at this point anyways, so worth a try. See where they end up in a few years.

True to some extent. Most premium cards are still worth more today than pre-pandemic although they are trending downward.

Really depends on the card. I'm finding my Beckett graded stuff is trending down. However, my PSA cards are holding strong, with some even increasing in value.

One thing that's hurt the value though is the increase in the CAD dollar. It went from 70 to 82 cents.

I am selling off all my stuff now. I think once PSA gets caught up on grading, there will be a massive flood of cards on the market, particularly young guns.
